Motorbikes are not like clothing. There is nothing called "stock clearance" in the automotive industry. A motorcycle is assembled using individual parts that will be manufactured regardless the motorcycle is still in the market or not.

Have been using the R3 from 2015 Sept. And after 111000+ kms, can quite surely say, it's one of the best touring bikes that I could've got. Been to almost every terrain with this bike, and everywhere R3 performed flawlessly. Even today, the engine sounds like first day. The acceleration is like new one. The handling and ergonomics are just spot on. And the FE is still around 30-31 kmpl at a cruise speed of 100-110 kmph. Don't think any other bike can do things like R3 does, yes even after taking note of D390 and N300. Have a maintenence cost of approx 1.9 INR/km over the whole period the R3 is there with me, and that's including every spares and tires excluding only the fuel cost. It just doesn't fail. And the braking in my bike has been excellent, even without ABS, I never felt the need of ABS. So this bike has been a keeper for me for sure and I'm not gonna part with it. Excellent analysis though @Autocar India. The rear suspension jumps around a bit but if you try out the preset 5, it'll be much better. The default it comes is at preset 3.

@@RishaadMody1 , yes. Touring perspective it has been a great bike. Most of my ODO is being done due to B'lore - Mumbai and B'lore - Kolkata and some trips to the Himalayas. What impressed me more is when the bike did Gramphoo - Batal - Kaza in 2018 with full load on and without any hiccup. That's when I was like fully impressed. I'm a 5'6" person and the riding triangle is perfect for me. So much that I used to cover 300+ kms without even stopping once or 1200 kms in a day, such a good tourer this bike is. And for you and Autocar, I've nothing to say. You guys are the end of discussion for me when it comes to automobiles. Thanks for the amazing videos. Keep them on.

@@arnabchowdhury9645 Thanks for the genuine user review! Am mighty impressed! What are the maintenance procedures you rigorously follow? How much times have you replaced the clutch and how do we know that when the clutch has to be replaced? Has the engine been ever opened? What about valve clearance? I know am sounding technical but just like you I prefer retaining and using stuff long-term. My 2018 R15V3 has crossed 40,000 KMs and am witnessing fuel efficiency drop over the last 7000 KMs. Needless to say that the engine note has become gruff and gearbox feels coarse. And, when loaded with another person in the rear, acceleration dips with just the engine booming as the revs rise. Your suggestions please.

@@gentlethrottle I maintain the R3 as religiously as possible. Like changing fork oil every year. Both wheel bearing, swingarm bush and cone-set lubrication after every monsoons. Chain maintenance every 1000 kms even though I use Scotoiler vSystem. Chain sprocket changed thrice in total - first time at 40K kms, second at 80K kms and 3rd at 110K kms. Cone-set changed twice - 1st at 80K kms and 2nd at 110K kms. Second one had to be changed quickly as bike use has reduced drastically after Mar 2020. My bike had covered 100K kms by Feb 2020. After that, till now it covered only 11K kms. Swingarm replaced at 110K kms as rusting happened. Brake pads, both changed twice till now. At 40K kms and at 90K kms. Clutch plates, total 7 in number, changed once at 67K kms as I was going to do Ladakh-Spiti in 2018. No engine work ever done except changing the cam chain tensioner once at 97K kms. Valve clearance gets checked every 20K kms. Has always been within the tolerance limit, both the intake and exhaust ones. And other general maintenance like engine oil, oil filter and air filter change every 4K kms. Plugs change every 10K kms. Using CR9E. Fuel injector cleaning done every 20K kms. Recently got throttle body syncing and cleanup of throttle body, fuel tank and fuel pump.

It's a simple strategic move by Yamaha. - Reduce features during the introduction phase. Incash the bike as a whole. - Introduce it as a CBU with a higher price and blame CBU costs. - One year later, Make it in India. Now you already have higher price in place. Make profits with that price. - Then introduce missing features and make prospects happy. 2-3 years will pass like this.

It will be a hard sell at 3.5 lakh, the ideal price would be close to duke 390, twin cylinder will make up for the missing features. But at 4 lakh, it is dead on arrival. No one is fool enough to buy these especially because of sub par service experience of Yamaha blue square dealers.

This again brings out the old rivalry between R3 and Ninja 300 and pricing plays a key role... Both comes with their own set of pros and cons...Engine refinement, less maintenance costs in favour to Yamaha but gets expensive when compared to Ninja 300 which has more fuel capacity, slip and assist clutch but servicing costs are high but offers exclusivity to customers who prefers special preference in terms of servicing their bike... Yamaha is missing out a big chunk of the market by being reluctant to launch two more bikes based on the same engine. A Tenere 300 and an XSR/RD 300 under 5L OTR. A T3 would be a proper unicorn tier bike and the xsr would be more like the rebirth of the notorious rd350. Yamaha would sell like hot cakes considering its reliability, looks and nostalgia. Really informative review brother. Keep up the good work. People like you could express the opinion of the public to the brand. Yamaha already said they would produce T3 if there is enough demand. They certainly has the techological capability and resources. Sadly, they are now making bikes for people who don't care about the brand while conveniently avoiding their true connoisseurs. ✌️

@@gnanasabaapatirg7376 Only Indian brands or their collaborators care about us. Japs just want to sell scooters and 150 cc bikes in large volumes or sell their premium bikes that cost as much as mid segment cars/SUVs. Nothing in the ~40 hp range that is affordable. Honda is not properly using the cb300r/cbr250 engine and Yamaha the r3 / fz25 engine. Oftentimes they roll out mid segment bikes with a premium price tag and blame the market if it fails. Eg. Cb500f/x. Honda is now trying to eat the market of RE by making bikes that look just like RE with better reliability. Hope they bring something that is sensibly priced to rival the new Himalayan. They could use the cb300r engine in a better tune (~35-40hp) to make an adv under 3.5l. Even, Yamaha could easily use the fz25 engine in a better state of tune (~30hp) to make something that looks like a Tenere under 3l.

Yamaha needs to seriously update and upgrade these bikes before they launch them in India
@reubendias18

I recently came across some videos of owners complaining about issues showing up on their new bikes of this capacity from Bajaj-Triumph, KTM, Hero-Harley and RE. If Yamaha, Honda and Suzuki had well-priced and appropriate bikes for the competition then these Japanese bikes would seriously dominate while not disappointing their owners after buying them.

I have owned a BS4 R3 for the past 5 years and 72000 kms on the odo. Guess how many times the bike broke down or left me stranded?? . . . . . . . . . Just once because I didn't change the battery on time and the battery died while I was touring. It's not the bike's fault so the answer is none. That's what you pay for.

People don't understand when whole bike is built n imported to India mean it has far more superior quality thn ur single cylinder ktms. Plus that double cylinder engine is way way eay far relaible thn ktms. R3 is proper track sports bikes which ktms are not. People just thing good bike mean just throttling on straight. Importing definitely makes it expensive. But their's no doubt it ll last double the years of ktm 390s. Its so so depressing to see how youtubers n youtube chapri community in India just successfully spreading misinformation n hatred against legendary vehicles. Aprilia will never be as good as R3 on track. Never

As of now i believe tha bike is brought in as CBD units right and when the R3 and MT O3 are made in India am sure the spares will be shared between R15 and Mt15 so they might be getting TFT and travtion controll. Even FZ gets traction controll now days coz of parts sharing right 😂

Avoiding premium components indicates that they are going to offer it on competitive pricing. Some where in the range of 3.25L. This strategy will definitely give them a good number of sales. Yamaha should give atleast 5-6 color (white/Red....) options also so that one can get his machine in his favorite color.

Dear,Don't oversale it. Not many are excited about R/MT 3. Those excited ones are not the prospective buyers in 4-5L bracket. Those who are planning in this bracket will have other options. Having experienced BS4 R3 , These engines are reliable, but not exciting at all. Power delivery is linear , doesn't give you thrills like Duke or RC. Someone with sedate riding would like it but Life's too short to be linear. And Most importantly, Yamaha is already testing R3 replacement, possibly with bigger engine with bigger power figures. No point putting down 4 big ones on an outdated model.

Good thing about this bike : simple & reliable. Not so good thing : high price, no tech and CBU unit for the first year. KTM RC 390 still feels more value for money than the Kawasaki 400 and Yamaha R3. But Aprilia RS 457 if comes under 5 lakh (on road) then it will beat all of these bikes in the market.

The lack of features will prove to be the reason Yamaha is not establishing itself in the above 155cc segment. consumers will ignore it, leading to low sales numbers and then it will be discontinued. At least a TFT display and slipper clutch should be equipped looking at the market competition.
