After owning a 2014 FZ-09 and now a 2023 XSR 900 I will not hesitate to sell everything I have for that bike lol not including my 23’ XSR of course😂💀 cp3 for life!

To ride in WSSP, u need to ride a production bike. So R9 gonna be in production...

That's a great point! Who knows if we'll see it this year or next. It's still all speculation based on one race team manager's statements. I believe it exists, I just don't like jumping to the conclusion that it's gonna be sooner than later. Thanks for watching!

An R9 would definitely NOT use 'the same frame' as the MT-09; it would have to have a sportier, better-handling geometry.

The old generation MT-09 (2014-2020) were definitely a bit squirrely, but the new generation MT-09 frame (2021+) is much more compliant and stable and could hold its own wearing the skin of a super-sport. It handles excellent and has the foundational elements to build off of for more aggressive geometry. My logic is the MT-10 uses the R1 frame. The MT-07 uses the R7 frame. It would only make sense for an R9 to use an MT-09 frame based on that pattern. The only justifiable changes I could see would be handle bars, seat, rear sets, suspension, brakes, and subframe changes. For Yamaha to invest their resources into researching, designing, and engineering just to make 1 bike frame wouldn't be traditional for the company, and is likely not worth it when they have a perfectly capable frame they can build off of to suit. I can't rule it out because there are still a lot of uncertainties about an R9, but I feel strongly about my prediction - that said, I don't know everything and I have been wrong before. @Omni_Moto Thanks for the reply... I have a '21 MT-09 SP. Although it handles way better than the older FZ09 I rode, it's still nowhere near the 890 Duke or Street Triple (still too high and chopperish in the front, wags its head when pushed). I've not ridden the XSR, which I guess has a bit longer swingarm; that might help. But it's gonna take more tweaks than that to make it worthy of being called an R9.

Since the fairings would be plastic that would cost about $5 to make, wouldn't it be great if the R9 was $10 more than the MT 09? They'd sell millions.

@GT3.00 several things get changed really, subframe design, rear set locations, tank shape, suspension changes, frame changes to support fairings all needing to be engineered and tooled which costs the most but ya it's not that simple

@@cf9590 That was *very* well said. There's _SO_ much more that goes into producing a super-sport variant than just slapping fairings on it and calling it a day with a slight price mark up. Given Yamaha's history, we will see the changes you mentioned and possibly more. Super-sport motorcycles aren't something that gets rushed into production. There is a lot of fine tuning to be done to make it the best it can be out of the factory at a price where retail consumers will be interested.

It should be more powerful then the mt09 engine, if has the same engine it has to be cheap because make no sense to spend more then a R6 , the main issue might be the engine will be different and this is why takes so much time to release it, also electronics should be as on r1m , if the R9 don't deliver this it will be just a big disappointment

You are tripping if you think that this is going to be cheaper than an MT-09. Sportbikes and supersports are always more expensive than the naked variant.

It's just going to be the MT09 but with super sport ergonomics and fairings. Probably updated brakes, suspension and/or quick shifter options for the upgraded package.
