A 140 - 150 hp R9M would be killer. To be honest I did expect more effort in the engine department, I think the winglets look absolutely daft and I’m not exactly fussed on the single headlight and the tail section. I was hoping that there may have been a bit of a departure from the current cookie cutter R line look into something fresh, the new dashboard looks top rate and the new deltabox frame is nice too. Glad to see a serious brake set up on it and good standard level of suspension, I think it will be a winner for Yamaha but I do see some missed opportunities to change the game, it’ll be a blast to ride though I’m sure and at the end of the day that’s the most important thing.

I get it , but there's a point people differentiated between Supersports and Hypersports ( the general rule being 600cc vs 1000 cc ) . They're just diluting the term. Keep the HP low enough and you could put clip ons on a 1.600 cc bike, producing roughly 120 HP, and call it a supersport. Might be a fault of the industry, or the public, but I guess it's just a case of people taking offence with the term Supersport.

@@abstractspaces8186 Well... yeah. That's the whole point of these bikes. 600cc i4s were expensive to make and had poor ROI. They cost about 70% of what a liter bike cost to make but were priced at around 50% of the liter bikes. This, coupled with the fact that no one was buying them AND the new emission regulations made it so that they're no longer economical to produce. Why not slap an engine from a mass produced triple into a sport bike chassis and rake in the cash.

Missed a huge trick here. Could have used that gaping hole to move the fuel tank lower or the engine higher (seeing as they made a whole new frame for it). The prior would have given space for a bigger airbox too to increase power to combat Euro5 with. Yamaha have absolutely dropped the ball here I think with 195kg and 115bhp. Rev limit is still only 10500rpm, same as MT09. could have surely done something to go to 12k revs? Just seems like such a strange decision to invest in a new frame and product line for it on paper to be the same on paper as a XSR900GP. Hopefully it handles like it's on rails and that saves it.

Here, in the US where they obviously still offer the 2025 R1I wish they would have cruise control for that because the lower model R 9 has it and some people think it's silly to have cruise control on a sport bike. However, it really can extend the ride and make a lot more useful to more people.

After owning the 2021 MT-09 for awhile now, that “empty” space between the frame & engine where the starter is is to keep the fuel & air box cool as if the air box dropped there, the engine heat will affect the density due hot are is less dense. Also, the fuel will get hotter & start to affect the emissions.

I’m still not convinced about these replacements. My ‘08 R6 makes 130hp and revs to the moon and for me that’s what made it a super-sport. A 117hp 900cc doesn’t sound ‘super-sport’
@mattt51273 ай бұрын
I get what you’re saying but the reason for a triple over an in-line 4 is the immense difference in low end torque and mid range, the R6 was ridiculously gutless down low and through the mids, they only had power when you hit beyond 10-11k+ rpm, unless you decided to swap around some sprockets and get a tune, triples like this have consistent linear power throughout the entire range which makes the power more usable in any environment because you don’t have to rip the throttle to the moon to have power
@MichaelVella13 ай бұрын
@@mattt5127 yes I know but that to me is what makes it a great naked bike engine. A super-sport should be ‘risky’ and ‘exciting’ and ‘stupid’ for the streets, not usable. At this point what’s the point of Yamaha making the MT anymore if this is just the same but subjectively better looking. They’re putting what used the be the naked rider and the ss rider in the same basket and some of us want to experience the two sides.

@@MichaelVella1 Did you forget the part about, gearing, tune and ergonomics being different from the MT?, not to mention the uprated components and on board tech specialised for more track use, it’s hardly the same as a “naked bike experience” at all, furthermore you’re saying you prefer a “risky” high revving 600 for the street, they’re designed for the track, hence the R6 only being sold as track models these days, a low torque, high revving, uncomfortable machine makes no sense for the road, which is why they’re now producing the R9 for being more usable on the road, otherwise they’d make a track only bike.
