Don't know why everyone is NOT comparing it to a R6. Other than the extra torque from the 900 cc displacement, its very close to the specs off the 2020 R6. They even used the wheels. Once you get this girl going, its going to resemble the performance of a R6. For the money, I think its a great option. But it hurts the heart that we are losing yet another legend on the road. I really wish I could ride again, as I would have never sold my 2020 R1M. My regret is unmeasureable.

@@pauly1k Cylinder numbers aren't all that important. It's all about the stroke vs bore ratio. The larger the stroke, the higher the torque, at the expense of max RPM. Horse power is a function of RPM and torque. There's a sweet spot where you can maximize RPM and minimize the loss of torque, and that gives you the best HP for displacement. The downside to that is low torque at the lower RPM ranges, which is not very street friendly. Generally, twins and triples have higher stroke and lower bore than their i4 counterparts, but this isn't always the case (Daytona 675).

As much as owning the fastest thing on the road is cool, I think the majority of riders are looking for something just a liiiittle more tame and in my opinion this is sitting at that perfect sweetspot power-wise. I see a lot of people instantly dismissing this because it's not in the same category as the litre bikes but that's the whole point, not everyone's trying to spend every dollar they have trying to get the MOST power. This sporty 120hp-ish with extra low-down torque segment is my favourite by far, just like riding a 600 but with some extra grunt and a more unique exhaust note.

The R9 fills the gap the Daytona 675 left behind I feel, that middleweight triple option in the market. In a way I kinda respect that exhaust, all those underslung exhausts look hideous anyway, so spare us the effort of trying to spruce it up. Just bought the MT09 SP, guess I have to take the R9 for a spin then. The engine is a hoot and even on the MT you're doing 120 mph way too fast. Most people here never tried the CP3. It's just plain fun. I just sold my '21 Hayabusa, to get the MT09 and recently rode the Super Duke 1290 R. Both 180+ hp and loads of torque and so on, but it's just too much for the road. Going fast in a straight line get's old real quick (german here, it's allowed) The difference is that you can really work with 100% of the power of the CP3 engine on the road as a moderatly competent rider. I also own a Street Triple 675. I can't imagine prefering a long geared 600 over the R9 on the street. The 675 is a great bang for the buck motorcycle, but what the CP3 does from 5k to 10k feels just exactly right for a lightweight roadbike. The Z900 with more hp and more torque feels tame and boring in comparison.

love it. you guys really touched on the heart of the matter and that for 12 and a half grand its a true value. im thrilled that for once someone has something good to say about the R9. and an opinion from you guys really matters to me, more than many others. you both have ridden some of the most exotic machines ever built and to hear you talk about this bike in such positive ways means alot. iam highly considering this bike. all the criticism aside from people who judge way too easily i think its going to be an amazing bike to own. everyone complaining about this bike not being an R1, its not an R1 but for 99 percent of the population do you really need 200 hp for street bike riding? which is where at least 90 percent of riding actually happens.

It's more expensive than a ZX6R that has more power and an engine that revs to 16k. The CP3 engine is fine in the MT09 or Tracer, but it's not a sports bike engine. All low down grunt and zero top end. You don't need 200 hp on the road, but 117 is just rubbish for a sports bike.

@@MyMednas you make a good point. the mt 09 is probably a much better bike for road use than the R9. i really like that zx6 just wish team green would update it with quick shifter up and down and better tech package. the power and revability is there and the price is reasonable, kawasaki seems to be a bit slow on their updates in such a competitive market you'd think they wouldnt be able to afford to fall behind.

Had they announced the R9 a year ago I would've put a deposit down immediately. But i bought an R7 and I am super happy with it. Now I cannot wait until I get to try it out and see what's what, and then maybe consider a switch. I also tried a couple of weeks ago the MVAugusta F3RR and it was a beast. But at 20K€ the base one, 26K€ the RR one with all the carbon fiber bits and bobs, I don't think I am going to consider that one unless I suddenly get a massive paycheck raise.

A sport bike that actually makes sense to ride on the street, no wonder people are hating🤣 Hardcore track bikes for the street, noone's buying them, this one actually makes sense for the performance oriented crowd that won't buy a high end bike just to get it out of their system then tire of the impracticality and sell it and never go back. I think Yamaha already pushed the boundaries making the R7 riding position so hardcore, it payed off in tracking/racing but would have had a much better life selling to the public were it not for that. They made a perfect street bike then, at the last moment, compromised it to please their fanbase and stay a little closer to their heritage, resulting in a confused product that doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. Can't wait for the first ride reviews of the R9

I think quite a bit of the moaning about bikes now comes from people that are unable to interpret the performance of a bike as the linear displacement scale of days gone. Manufacturers are now using larger powerplants to create the same power with less effort and a more usable powerband for most people. But people see 890cc and think it should scale 30% more horsepower than an r6, when in reality it can make the same power earlier in the revs, with more torque, burning less fuel and in theory requiring less maintenance. Why is this a bad thing?
