Rebuilding the engine on a Yamaha Raptor 700? We’re doing an entire Raptor 700 engine build from start to finish.
Note: our phone number has changed! Call us at 1-229-584-0046 for help finding the right parts for your maintenance needs.
Check out all of the parts here:
Bottom end build parts: bit.ly/Yamaha-Raptor-Engine-Bu...
Oil pump and shift assembly parts: bit.ly/Yamaha-Raptor-Engine-Bu...
Clutch and water pump parts: bit.ly/Yamaha-Raptor-Engine-Bu...
Flywheel, stator, and starter installation parts: bit.ly/Yamaha-Raptor-Engine-Bu...
Cylinder and piston parts: bit.ly/Yamaha-Raptor-Engine-Bu...
Top end build parts: bit.ly/Yamaha-Raptor-Engine-Bu...
Head installation parts: bit.ly/Yamaha-Raptor-Engine-Bu...
Watch as John builds a Yamaha Raptor 700 engine from the bottom up. We’ll start with the bottom end, where we’ll get everything cleaned up and then press bearings into our crankcase halves. Then, we’ll install the crankshaft. Next, we’ll move up the engine and get the oil pump and shift assembly installed.
With that finished, we’ll build the clutch and install the water pump. Once that’s done, we’ll work on getting the cylinder built, which includes a Wiseco piston installation.
Then it’s on to the top end, where we’ll show you how to lap the valves and get the camshaft installed. Finally, we’ll get the head attached to the engine.

I’m a 2-wheeler type enthusiast, but the Raptor engine is quite similar to a Moto engine. Nicely engineered. Excellent build video too. Wiseco pistons have come a long way from the old heavy seizure-prone 2-stroke pistons of the 60s and 70s!

After finishing the video I noticed at 1:36 you said the reed valve let’s pressure out . It actually lets fresh air into the exhaust side to burn off unburnt fuel , most likely to meet emission standards , however if the reed valve sticks or if the solenoid fails fresh air can be easily introduced to the combustion chamber causing a severe lean condition , raptor owners give yourself a price of mind and block it off ! Mr Cuervo racing makes a nice plate to block it off.

Good job. I would recommend you use a small silicone brush to brush the oil onto those shafts. Keep the oil in a small container you can dip the brush in. Wear gloves too and use billet gears. Don't drop gears in, carefully place them evenly into the case. That is probably why that first one got stuck and went in crooked which, when pressed can damage the casing. Good tip on the feeler gauge and Loctite. One the head bolts, probably better to freeze them vs. adding oil to them. After all that work, would have like to seen the start up.
