I miss the 2-stroke sport bikes. I don't think the riders today understand how outstanding they were. The power came on like a turbo charger and it could throw you if you weren't ready. Fantastic video!! People forget it was these bikes which started the world wide craze for speed.

Too bad it won't be THAT nice to the environment..for that almost twice the power for the given c.c but hey volcanoes also pollute the world isn't ?. love that scream and narrow power band...🌞💪

This Yamaha RD 500 V4 is homologated / plated and it is street legal here in Portugal. We also are finishing another 500 project, a Suzuki RG 500 Gamma which is also street legal ( it's homologated / has plate ). The 500 you were thinking were the racing models from WGP, completely different stuff, ours are production models much worse and less powerful.

Has to be one of the best versions of the Yamaha 2-stroke V4 500 I have seen. That bike is hazing the rear tire as it pulls when on the pipe. Well done.
@FerdBronkeh10 жыл бұрын
What do you mean hazing the rear tire? with smoke from the pipe?
@angryfishmonger10 жыл бұрын
The rear tire is spinning fast enough to smoke as it comes on the pipe. The power-band on two-strokes is narrow but very intense.
@SmallEngineRacer10 жыл бұрын
angryfishmonger and again the smoke is possibly from the pipes at high rpms because a stock RZ does have the same look view from the back!!!!! but i say this one may have enough power to spin the tire too but I doubt it at the speed is going.
@RacingSM9 жыл бұрын
SmallEngineRacer On this video the 500 only spinned on the street "white zebras" pedestrians pavement due to it's different material which is more slippery than the asphalt itself.
@angryfishmonger9 жыл бұрын
Just at the one minute mark, and again at 3:15, it appears that in both first and second your getting rear wheel spin. The tach jumps as though the rear has broken loose. You're right about the other views that looks like two-stroke oil with a blue tinge to it. Im not riding it so I could be wrong. Still an awesome bike.

...and back when Kevin Schwantz was in Houston at Hurst Yamaha and Marine, he could make these things scream. The bike I saw him ride the most though was a TT 500 with Fox Factory Forks and every trick aftermarket part available to mankind! He would put a milkcrate next to it, kick the beast over, climb on, click it in gear, wheelie through both of the shops' plastic strip 'airlocks', around the shop, hang a left on Bingle Street, all without setting the front wheel down! One very talented rider/racer. He used to call me Heli-spark (due to my tig welding abilities.) Be well and God bless y'all!

Legal loophole in england at the time, I caught up with him after ten miles on my xj550. I'd like to say the rd250 was awesome in england when it came out, 120mph + from a learner legal machine, learners got bumped down to 125's not long after (80's)

@SquillyMon8 жыл бұрын
A TDT It SURELY does, it sure does. I have owned a 97' XX (First year of the Bird) for over 10yrs now) The bike is supremely under rated and basically IGNORED completely to be honest. Honda really doesn't mess around in the Engineering Department, they never have and I am an active life long fan and owner of many many Honda products. The Blackbird is Scary Fast in a Straight Line and I've not met its equal on the streets in random short shot speed battles. My machine is modified a bit also...I'd say an additional 20hp at my rear wheel? Power is currently 171 at the business end. Rear sprocket is geared for about 204 at Redline... and this is from the Carbureted Model ! I almost picked up a Fi model but couldn't justify getting rid of mine because it hadn't done anything wrong or that I had a complaint about...so...I kind of forgot about it. The only reason I would want the Fuel Injection was for a Future Turbo...Maybe someday...who knows. More for Mechanical project fun other than Need...bec it surely doesn't need more power...that engine would just be such an excellent candidate for a Turbo with its smoothness and distinct sound. Back to Engineering...The Blackbird is one of the only...or rather one of the last bikes to actually have a Finished Painted Engine...despite you not being able to see the damn thing! That is a lot of extra effort and added cost...Its also pretty damn classy if you ask me... As are the Dual Counter Balance Shafs inside the engine...when they could have easily eliminated them without any vibration problem. They are only present to provide an extra high level of smoothness that any Gear Head or Motorcyclist should appreciate. By far the Smoothest engine I've ever run, Bar None. Electric Smooth at 100Mph and Beyond...The only Vibes you deal with are from the Airflow if your jacket pokes outside the "pocket" of still air...and that pocket is large. Yes, the CBRXX was and still is a Technological Tour de Force...I don't care what anyone says...or rather does not say about the machine. As most do not know it ever existed...at least that is the feeling I get whenever I try to explain to people what Sport Bike I have currently. Sorry to write a book, but its not often I bump into a fellow XX owner at random and or outside of dedicated websites. Well...Stay safe, Under Triple Digits (yea right) and keep the Rubber Side DOWN my friend !

No, this is 2 separate explosions per crank turn ( 180º + 180º ), a big bang configuration has the closest possible or simultaneous explosions per crank turn. Suzuki RGV 250 / Aprilia RS 250 have 270º + 90º ( almost simultaneous ), the sound is like a monocylinder . The WGP 500 pure big-bang firing order had the 4 pistons exploding at the same time, like a big monocylinder. Latest 250 GP bikes had 2 simultaneous explosions per crank turn aswell, better throttle control and more linear engine

Yes, I understand what you say, people compare old 2-Strokes with modern 4-Strokes with millions of R&D on them .. :) The Sutter is very expensive, it can't be compared with a tuned Yamaha RD 500 or a Suzuki RG 500 .. these bikes cost like 4000 - 6000€ used and then more 5000 - 10000€ of tuning above them depending of the project .. they're completely different worlds if you know what I mean ..
@RacingSM11 жыл бұрын
Yes, even our secondary transmission is somehow short at the moment ( 15 - 42 ), which would make around 250 km/h top speed, but for our purpose is more than enough. For incredible top speed there are other bikes more suitable for that purpose. ( modern 1000 4-Strokes )

hi, great videos.i was wondering why 2 stroke engines usually seize and what oil ratio to use??
@droceretik9 жыл бұрын
+rungassamydonovan47 Which two strokes? Water cooled? Air cooled? Racing machines? Premix fuel? Oil injection? Can be several reasons alone or a combination of all. In an oil injected engine, running out of oil, a pump malfunction or a blocked or disconnected oil line could be a reason for seizure, Using the wrong oil in either an oil injected engine or a premix engine. Incorrect (lean) fuel air mixture (wrong or blocked jets) or leaking intake. Wrong piston to cylinder clearance (too tight). Poor quality fuel. Over heating engine due to prolonged high speed running at low speed under hot conditions (engine abuse). In a water cooled engine, coolant run out due to leaks. Blocked radiator. Incorrect ignition timing. Oil ratios for premix vary depending on oil type (synthetic or mineral) but are typically 30: 1 to 50:1. Be guided by the user manual. Most racing two strokes use premix. Most road going 2 stroke motor cycles use oil injection.
