Have been having shifter problems for a while, just now getting to where can’t get them adjusted to work at all. Was getting ready to replace clutches and belt. Saw your video, checked my fan gears, both of them have teeth broken off, ordering a new set today. Not sure if that’s all my problems but it is definitely a problem that need corrected before anything else. If fixes I’ll post back. You may have saved me several hundred bucks. Thanks a million!

Sounds like my problem. My BIL is a retired mechanic and doesn’t know UTVs but because of the video I can get him to look at it. If he sees what you showed he can check it. First low gear went and now no reverse. It gives us some place to start. Thanks for sharing. Seems the hard part will be getting the parts. 😫

I bought a Rhino yesterday and got a good deal cause it doesn't shift very well. I'm hoping this is the problem.

Great video! I took mine apart a found that the previous owner must have replaced the parts recently because they all appeared to be new. The odd thing is that the parts were bone dry as was the cavity that housed them. No oil or grease at all. BUT, with the parts in place and only the cover removed oil sprayed out from this area when I started the motor! So, why was it oil free, bone dry before? If oil sprays out with the cover off why wasn't oil going into this area before when the cover was on? Spooky stuff. I'm still hiding under my bed. Please help.

I'm not sure either, but check and see if there is a crank case ventilation tube or filter. I've never really looked for one but if the case is air tight it might keep the oil from coming up.

@@rosefamusa9530- I thought of you as I was just putting this assembly back together. I added a bit of grease to everything and tested all of the positions before closing it up. As I mentioned the gears and associated parts all look perfect but for some reason when I take the Rhino out for a test ride the gear shifting is still hit and miss. I have to play around with it one out of three times to get it into another gear or position. I have no idea what might be causing this. With all points greased I don't understand why there is this randomness to when it wants to shift into place. It's as though it's hung up or just doesn't want to 'pop into gear". Playing with the gas pedal to try to make it 'mesh' into place doesn't seem have any effect either. Do you have any thoughts on this?
@rosefamusa9530 Жыл бұрын
It sounds like it might be an internal issue. Try test driving it by shifting it with a wrench on the shaft. Take the hand shifter out and see if it still does it. If not start adjusting your shift linkage.

@@rosefamusa9530- Good idea. I will try this in the morning. It might be good to take that stick out of the equation. We'll see how it goes. Thanks again.

I finally figured it out... actually others figured it out and I just read about it online :) When your idle is too high there is some dynamic that takes place which prohibits the operator for being able to move the shifter freely. As soon as I lowered carburetor idle I was then able to shift properly! This combined with your good tips about the shifter gears and I'm all set! Thanks again.

when you refixed in place these parts,do you apply some sintech grease on the gear so it wont rust? thanks for that great video.oh yes when you dismantle it,nothing felt on the ground :-) ? Again thanks it is a great help video.Gervais in Quebec.

Yes I put grease on the gears on installation. Nothing should fall out when you remove the cover. Glad I could help.

I know this video is a year old now, but did you happen to address the issue of it being dry in there? I’m no mechanic, genuinely asking, because you said no oil is making it in there and that’s what caused it. How have the gears held up over the year?
@rosefamusa95302 жыл бұрын
I put grease on the gears, that's about all you can do. It's still working great.
@wrathe13 жыл бұрын
What kind of shifting problem did this address? I’m having issues getting into low-range. Sounds like gears are not meshing all the way (they will grind if I’m not careful).
@rosefamusa95303 жыл бұрын
This could be the same issue, pull the cover off and look at the teeth. They are probably worn.
@gervaisfillion94173 жыл бұрын
mine is doing the same but first you have your engine to be real idle when engaging,not to fast it wont work well too .i just gave a little trottle and it engage but no hard pedal,,,just smooth pedal

What kind of shifting problems? My 660 grizzly starts havibg problems after it’s warm. It will not shift into Low sometimes or be difficult to get into gear. Or pop out of low then kind of grind pop out with the rpm’s usually can wait and rock it into low but seems to get worse the warmer tye engine. Gets and the more in n out shifting I do. Is this similar to what you experienced?

Yes it's similar to my problems. The only way to tell is pull the cover off and look at the gears like I did

well,to bad i cannot add pictures,i have found some condensation inside the cover,the spring was dry as it has never been oily.i add sintechtik grease and close it.it will certainly help a lot.i wonder some are saying that there is not enough oil in this engine and it cannot splash there but also adding to much oil will blow all the gasket!!!!!!! i prefer once a year to open this cover,grease new and close it so that would add at my spring maintenance . Gervais
@rosefamusa95303 жыл бұрын
Yeah,too much oil is definitely not good. It was just a poor design and didn't get the lubrication it should.
@gervaisfillion94173 жыл бұрын
@@rosefamusa9530 well,you know what,i just checked after a couple of week if i add water inside the cover and i am still having some.i am beginning to think to add some more engine oil so it would splash to there! In my years of Skidoo,there was a bad recommandation of BRP for their quantity of oil in their Scandik ,they were saying 355 ml when in fact it should have 550 ml so the upper bearing inside this trany would be lubricate (4000$ CND for a transmission here in Quebec) so i wonder if Yamaha have ever sent a Technical Bulletin about this??? Gef
@gervaisfillion94173 жыл бұрын
well,i added 500cc of engine oil in the engine.theoretically if the engine also works with a splash system inside the lubrication it should better lubricate the internal gear change mechanism which is at the top of the engine. I am looking for the part number of the gear position sensor which is at the bottom of the engine just next to the oil filler cap ,,, anyone knows ???
