very impressive sound from a very underrated synth from that era. But that years was the time of rompler 01w Korg or from Roland Jv series. Yamaha sy35 is a great soinding synth. Thanks for your demo

Nothing sound quite like yamahas SY series of synths, there is lots of charm and warmth, same goes for the K series by Kawai.
@JoseAngelMorente5 жыл бұрын
Agree. I've owned all the K series (K1 II, K3m, K4, K5 and still have my beloved K5000S) as well as several SY models (still willing to get a TG77 though). They are fantastic synths that modern instrument makers should keep an eye on. A new MODX is a beast in terms of features and sound but... I think it still misses some of the magic of the good old SY-series sounding.

Charm and warmth and can do icy cold and metallic too when needed. They are so versatile and have that character and originality missing from modern synths. You do need to get stuck into editing and controllers to get the best from them though. I've got an SY55 and TG55, but would love an SY77! I could not stretch to affording one back in 1991.
@EgoShredder Жыл бұрын
@@JoseAngelMorente I've had a K1r since 1990 and love it; it's a problem solver too when trying to get a mix to glue together, and other modern synths are not helping. A guy called Nils Schneider was bored during lockdown in 2020 and created his own VSTi of his K1m, even blogged it all and desoldered the EPROMs to extract the sample data. End result was a fantastic Nil's K1v VST which is free to download and use. Has all the expansion cards built-in and sys exc data from a real K1 can be fed to it or vice versa. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYXUdJKYhZxpgZI . According to the developers blog page he plans to do a K4 VST, so hopefully that happens.

great video, just a question, i see theres no knobs so probably u set the sound details, like release attack etc, by buttons - but is there a way to plug another controller with knobs to it so i can have a fluent control of it? thank You!
@JoseAngelMorente4 жыл бұрын
It can be controlled with a remote MIDI controller but only some parameters can be modified in real-time (vector X/Y, modulation wheel, pitch bend, etc.). It can also receive sysex data for the rest of parameters but the whole patch information must be transferred for each change, so it would be a bit slow for real-time control. If you want a nice AWM+FM synth with real-time control capabilities, look at the Yamaha SY-77. It's a beast capable of sounds similar to the SY-35 but much more complex and powerful.

4:49 Is there anywhere a piece of software which can produce this sound on pc connected synth's? I mean the TerminatorOST/Doom 3/Halloween(MovieOST) Sound.
@JoseAngelMorente5 жыл бұрын
That sound can be achieved with virtually any software substractive or FM synthesizer. Try DEXED (which is free for Windows, Mac and iOS). Anyway, although software synths can reproduce any existing sound, sometimes they lack the character and core sound of those old hardware instruments. If you don't manage to get the sound by using software instruments, get a Yamaha TG-33. It's the desktop version of the SY-35 (same sound and effects but inside a small module).
