What accessories or modifications I have on my T7? The question I get very often so as COVID19 lockdown has been extended in Morocco, I had a time to produce another episode in the 10k series.
I thought I didn't change much on the bike but it turns out I have a list of 19 modifications or accessories on my T7 at the moment.
I took time to introduce each of them, they all work very well so instead of talking what is good I try to highlight some issues or limitations with them.

Also have the sym x-frame racks, had KLR650 crash bars. Both fantastic products. FYI, I think mosko moto actually recommends these as their preferred racks for the T7

High beam issue overcome it with a switch over micro relay (5 pin). Have the Normally Closed position hooked to the high beam input from the ADVMonster dimmer, leave the open pin (coil powered) empty, and the coil powered from the low beams. So when the voltage drops from the low beam the relay closes to the NC (NO COIL VOLTAGE) position and your Aux lights will turn on with the high beams.

Yes that would work very well. I'm now using simple (I think) 4 pin relay (maybe 5) and using the yellow wire from the high beam switch to pass 12V to the ADVMonster dimmer.

Hi. Also, did the Mosko Moto plate fit easily onto the Outback Motortek X -frame together with the X-plate or did you have to modify things? I ask at the Mosko Moto site recommends the standard rack. Cheers

Hi Hugo, the plates fit together with the X-Frame quite well with one issue. As you have the X bracket you have to position the Mosko plate in such way that it's not in a way and you can mount it using 3-4 mosko brackets. That will result in a situation where you either have bags all the way to the front or to the back. I used the front position and I think is risky as the bags are wide and very close to your feet and when you paddle (in a sand for example) your foot may get caught under the bag as it's just too close. Rear position would put the weight quite far back which may have effects on the suspension and so on. In my opinion, if you don't want to mount Rotopax or other accessories onto the racks maybe just plain Outback frame and Mosko plate is the better option as you'll be able to position the plate freely.

I used the toolbox for my daily maintenance can fit chain Lube and adjustment tools and pack less regularly used tools deeper very easy at the end of the day travelling

Ah! Good question, I do feel it only on left side for some reason. But I'm quite short with short legs so maybe it's not such pronounced problem for me, not sure about taller riders.

Hi Marc, thanks a lot for kind words, glad the video was useful. I used Outback crashbars as I liked the look of it and from the design it looked stronger than the OEM ones. The upper part of OEM ones does not have enough support in my opinion. I had similar design on Honda CB500X and I bent them towards the engine. As Outback has so many mounting points as well as 2 cross braces I think it's stronger.

Hi, Nice to see your using your bike for adventure. Have you had any issues with the brake pedal? Mind took a beating the other day and is twisted up, apart from a brake snake any other suggestions?

Hi Rich, thanks! I think she sees loads of adventure and I hope more is to come. The only problems with the brake pedal for me are: 1) it bends inwards almost every time I drop the bike and I have to bend it out 2) it is to far forward for my foot for offroad position 3) it is not well adjustable for off-road and road as the height of the pedal for off-road would push it way up for road. That being said, on my previous trip with the Honda CB500X I carried spare brake pedal because I did similar thing you describing many times. So I swapped the straight one for bend one and in nearest workshop I straightened damaged one and cycle repeated :)

I'm still in lockdown, Morocco extended lockdown till 10.6! My package with some parts has been stuck at the post for 7weeks somewhere. Seems the next steps will be to get to some EU country to sort out stuff for the African trip. It's proving difficult here, but mainly due to COVID.

If i check the pictures they look much lower and the connector bar between both sides also looks lower than on you bike/video. Do you know anything specific about that? Hi Ness, well... my X-Frames are the fist symetric version. Since that time Outback evolved those quite a bit so that's one, 2nd... my racks are super super modified now, I have a separate video about slimming the Outback rack and making it into the Rotopax holder.

Great video. Did you have any issues mounting the Mosko Moto wedge on the Outback Motortek xFrame along with the rotopak? Because you have to mount towards the front edge of the pannier rack to make room for the rotopak mount I wonder how the the little blue mosko clamps fit over the protruding exterior edges of the xFrame pannier (where there are additional loops). Hope that makes sense. Thanks!

Hi Kelly, yes I had problems but nothing angle grinder can't fix. What I needed to do is to push the X-frame as far back as possible and in order to do so I did grind the sharp corners of the X-frame so it fits snugly in the rack. Apart from this change it was fine and worked very very well, the whole thing is really just rock solid. The Mosko wedge goes from the outside of the frame and the clamps go onto inside side of the frame. I had my first aid kit strapped there behind the frame.

Great video...I am looking to acquire an ADV bike. It is a toss-up at the present time between the T7 with a lot of accessories/upgrades versus the KTM 890. From what I can best tell upgrading the T7 to a technically equivalent KTM 890 standard would make it more expensive than buying the later. Any thoughts you have would be appreciated. Please keep in mind I am 189cm tall weighing in at 95Kg. Cheers

This is very difficult question for me to answer, I never owned KTM, also if I'd not start doing rally ridding on T7 I'd not put so much money into some of the more speciality mods which would keep the price down. I like the simplicity of T7 its power delivery and the fact it is a platform which you can kind of turn into whatever you want. I've not upgraded massively suspension and the mods I have on T7 I'd do on KTM as well (protection, steering damper, luggage) so I'm probably cheaper still. With suspension upgrade I'd probably endup on the same price as stock KTM. But it really is a question what needs to be changed on the T7 and that question is very individual to the rider.

Hello, Nice video. I've recently fitted the Yamaha toolbox that locates in the skid plate recess and I've found that the engine vibration is now uncomfortable whereas prior to fitting the toolbox vibration was almost absent. This morning I've fitted some rubber sheet (roofing membrane - NOT roofing felt) in between the toolbox and the skid plate. I'll try this and see if there's an improvement - otherwise, I may well remove it.

@@michaellaughlin3962 - Some difference but still a tad of vibration that I'll learn to live with. My least favourite part of the T7 is the tubed tyres. Having had a puncture over last weekend, with a 5 1/2 hour recovery time , thanks RAC - I miss the tubeless set up on my both my Tracer & V-Strom XT. Fixing a puncture was a simple 15 minute job.

Hi Phil, I have different problem with the toolbox for the Yamaha bash plate. I'm constantly destroying it! The problem is it's so badly engineered that it becomes the lowest part of the bike and also it is so wide to the side that when I drop the bike I immediately hit it. I may revert back to tool tubes or hire someone to build a proper tool box from the whole front part of the bashplate like they do for 701 or KTM 690. In terms of tubed tires, check out my other videos on OutEx tubeless conversion. I'm using it for years on my bikes and it performed excellent not to mention it's very economical. May be option for you as well.

Hello, Badly engineered? Is that the welding, the design or the material? Yes, the position is vulnerable but it does help keep a lower centre of gravity. My T7 may never see manic off-road riding as I have yet to master that skill, one day perhaps. As an adventure bike, Yamaha have missed important elements off this machine. It also adds a significant cost to ownership. Likewise the lack of a centre stand as standard. I will check video on OutEx - out.

Badly engineered in way that the welds are only from one side to its easy to crack. Also if it would be about 1.5cm shorter from the bottom it would be flush with the bash plate and not sticking out as it’s now. The position itself is perfect, low as it should be as you’re pointing out.

You can fix the high beam over ride with a simple relay if your interested, tag me back. Had to do it on my Hayabusa with the cruise control system I fabricated for it.

Great video & keep up the good work. FYI - one US Gallon is actually 3.8 litres not 4.8 (one Imperial Gallon is 4.55 litres), so the 1 US Gallon Rotopax won’t get you quite as far as you think!

I should have done my homework... embarrassing 😂🤦‍♂️ But luckily I overfill the 1US gallon Rotopax to around 4.5ish liter. It is a bit annoying as it will leak when you open it but range is more important than fire safety in this case. I also have the MSR stove fuel bottle which is 1l as apocalypse backup.

FAR&FURTHER. I actually have the same arrangement & modified it very slightly a few days back by re-drilling the rear two holes in the Rotopax mounting plate 10mm closer to the front two holes. This allows the plate to fix 10mm further to the rear, making it easier to fit the fuel can and more importantly stops the front edge rubbing on the edge of the bikes rear faring (was worried that contact & vibration would eventually wear through the wall of the can)

That is really smart move! I'll steal that idea mainly because I need to move the mosko moto plates back (if I stay with MM) as now its too much in front and it's dangerous. The edge of the can does rub into the fairing but the rotopax is harder than the fairing so it is eating up the fairing not the can :)

Seat problem solved: remove screws and metal inserts flip metal inserts over & screw down in place, then install seat over them.

The wrr is pretty great but the highway sucks on it. At least my buddies tends to overheat, maybe not all of them do that. It's a tkc80 front, 95% sure.

I'm running TKC80 in the front, it has been recommended to me and it did handle very well in the Morocco. I used before on Honda Mitas E-07 which was much less off-road but it was invincible. I had 4 punctures in the front TKC80 in Morocco over 5 months and 0 on rear Mitas E-07+ Dakar which I had. The rear was worn out completely after 14000km.

@@FARANDFURTHER TKCs are very soft, i doubt they are very puncture resistant. i have had a puncture on my front TKC80 as well but I think that was due to a pinchflat. still a good tire but maybe not the best RTW tire?

@@0xsergy I've converted T7 to tubeless so for me fixing simple puncture is matter of 10 minutes.... Well RTW tire is any tire really, it is impossible to get tires you want everywhere so I had Mitas E-07 for longevity and in Kazakhstan I bought Shinko 804 as they didn't have much else... and I was happy to have something :)

@@FARANDFURTHER imho i wouldn't go tkc80 just due to how soft the compound is, very easy to get a pinch flat and the like. i hear good things about the shinko, i think the rubber isn't quite as soft as the tkcs. also, my tkc80s are cracking quite a bit and i store the bike inside with tires that are only a few months old. maybe bad batch but idk.

You forgot to mention the accessory signatures on the gas tank , very important lol . I have been searching high and low for Tenere 700 parts in America and so far ProCycle has the most stuff but I will check out Rally Raid and the ADV one you mentioned . If I had to choose a bash plate I'd go with B&B . It's very thick and goes farther back to protect the suspension but I will keep looking . So far Outback Mototech is sold out of everything Tenere in the States , so maybe patience is the key with them . Oh one more thing , do you know how much wattage is left for accessories on the stock stator . Want to know what the bike can handle as far as added electrical equipment . Happy trails !

Signatures are very important, they're from people I meet on the road. I guess the suppply for T7 accessories will now be under big pressure in US with it's release. I will see how much the suspension gets beat up and if I have dents on it I'll modify my bashplate to protect it, so far its quite intact. I was looking at the stator specs and can't wind output it is rated for in the specification so I'm not sure.

@@FARANDFURTHER With my DR650 you get about 50 extra watts , then you need to get a high watt stator . I gained a little more watts when I switched to LED bulbs . I will get even more when I put in the DOT LED headlight . That will give me enough watts for several accessories/mods .

If Yamaha is anything like Honda CB500X was, there was massive amount of spare capacity on Honda. I suppose it would be same with T7, not to mention that most of the lights are LEDs keeping load low.

Good question! I've dropped bike numerous times now and the headlight started to work, then it stopped for a bit so I went out did some jumps and it works again.... how odd!

Awesome infos!! You mentioned the Touratech crash bars.. do you think today it's a better alternative? I am curious of your point of view concerning the luggage racks. It seems you constantly keep the racks. Is that also for protection or to get use to train with the weight of it? Hi Rudy, I can't really comment on Touratech bars as I have not seen them physically, are they steel or aluminium? If aluminium, I'd definitely prefer steel, easier to weld and bend. Yes I keep racks all the time on the bike. It's not because of protection but because I have the Rotopax, Tooltube, First aid kit and Compressor on it all the time. The thing is for long distance/long term I need to put a lot of things on the bike and some like the list above is better not to have in luggage in case I travel without luggage (shopping, short enduro trip etc...) I still want to have those but not the luggage. The weight of the rack is 5.6kg, that's what you save if you go rackless, but then, where I would carry all those things? Best fix for the weight is to workout and be strong enough to handle those 5.6kg in my opinion :)

But if you travel on shorter trips, you don't need rotopax and you can pack all you need to rackless system, then of course, less weight is only better.

I've done this video quite long ago and at that time I didn't have suspension upgrades on the T7. Now I've 40k and the situation is different as I've replaced both front and rear suspension after finding the OEM limits on the MX track and 2x Dinaric rally.

Hi Johanes, not real reason really. I didn't have center stand before on my Honda CB500X as I raised it and OEM was short and I got used to it. I'm using my trail stand (separate video) to do most of the work on the road and for other repairs and maintenance, there is always garage.

You want the measurement or just truthful ballpark.... too wide. The problem is not really the Mosko but the fact that the symmetrical design of the rack does make the bike excessively wide. I'm now looking for a bit leaner solution.

@@twodirtywheels1498 I've just tested Mosko Moto Reckless 80L and it is much much leaner than the rack & panniers, I'd guess you loose about 20cm in total width with the Reckless.

Hi. Very helpful list. A question on the Outback Motortek pannier rack. Is the width of the rack on either side the same? (ie: distance from centre of bike to each X-plate?) What is the total width of the rack with no panniers? Cheers and safe travels

Hi Hugo, yes the rack is the same on each side, it's symetrical design. I'm not sure but I think Outback is now offering also asymetrical design whrere the side without the exhaust is closer. I've taken the racks off the bike as I'm now bought Rackless system... I'll try to put it together somehow to get the measurement later.

The Mosko moto Backcountry bags were an experiment. I bought them 2nd hand and the reason why there is not a review on my channel is that I needed some time to ride with them to evaluate if I like them or not and what I actually don't like. Rackless is another experiment (expensive one though) but I hope it will minimise problems I had with backcountry although I can already see it will bring another... As you say, it's evolution and I really wanted to test the setup before heading out for long time, I'm glad I did now I'll test the Rackless over winter and see if it works, lets see...

I can't recommend here. I have not looked in detail into Touratech or H&B, isn't the Touratech aluminum bar? I think the Touratech does connect to lower frame as well protecting the water pump on the right side which most people won't use, but I kind of do.... :)

No no, no dedicated water pump protection. Outback has lower crash bar and upper crash bar and what I have installed are both. What I'd like is what Touratech has on its lower crash bar. There is a pipe going from above the engine casing over the water pump down to the frame mount.

She is tall bike for us shorter riders but it is manageable, of course low speed handling is a bit tricky and needs some muscle but in terms of riding it does feel like it fits well. Hi Jay, at that time I didn't need to change those. The accessories were not for the looks but for the function and I didn't mind the OEM rear. Now after 60kkm and 3 years, I have moved to CamelAdv tail tidy because I have the high exhaust and my indicators got toasted...

Because I measured my static and rider sag and it is much higher with luggage than it should be no matter how I set the preload. This means the spring rate is wrong for my weight + load I usually have on the bike. If I ride without any luggage I can get it close but with a lot of preload and that is not good either.

Morocco just announced the extension of the lockdown so the impressions with new spring will have to wait. I'm now constantly working on tweaking the stock suspenstion and taking the measurements so when I have new spring I'll be able to have not only feelings but also some numbers. I'm playing with the clickers yes, but it's long process as I change, ride same track few times take measurements and then move to other setting and so on... I'm 68kg luggage is +- 35-40kg depending how much extra fuel and water and sag is wrong.

I think it is entirely personal choice. How are you going to fit 21" wheel to the front and 18" to the rear of the Multistranda? 113hp is way too much for me and its slightly heavier. It's completely different bike, not something I'd like to take on my trips.
