Watching this 2 years later. I’m rebuilding my 2001 Vstar 650 custom and this video helped so much and learned a lot watching this. Appreciate the work!

Bro I went through hell when my bike all of a sudden wouldn't start but kept turning over forever. I was wondering where you ordered your starter motor assembly from ?

Hope you see this comment. I have a 2006 v star 650, rode it today about 75 miles. Parked it, then went to start it about two hours later, and when I press the start button, nothing happened? Did you experience the same issue and that led you to replace the starter?
@Lifeasiseeit1961 Жыл бұрын
Yes. It started as an intermittent problem with the starter, then just stopped turning. However I’d recommend replacing the relay first.

Where can I get my New starter bolts
@Lifeasiseeit19612 жыл бұрын
Old bikes might not be serviced by the dealerships but fasteners are always available. Most cities have bolt specialists somewhere in town. I’d suggest looking for nut and bolt specialists if your local Yamaha dealer doesn’t have them in stock. A bolt specialists will be cheaper than a motorcycle shop too.

Dear sir I have same exact bike, it starts up fine when the bike is cold after I run it for a while, when I shut it off it won't start, all I hear is relay clicking,then I have wait 15 to 20 minutes for it to start, already replaced starter relay, do you think this is the starter? what were the symptoms of your starter going?or did it just stop working! Thanks in advance!!
@Lifeasiseeit19612 жыл бұрын
That is exactly the problem I had with the starter. I found replacing the starter to be very easy and inexpensive. It was working intermittently. I did replace both the starter and relay at the same time just as a matter of course. When you hear the clicking after turning the key on it is just the fuel pump filling your carb bowls.

Did you go with OEM starter or just one off ebay?0thrwie how's it holding up? just would like to know,I gotta order one
@Lifeasiseeit19612 жыл бұрын
Amazon is where I ordered a Chinese starter that worked just fine. I’ve found OEM parts from Japan to be very expensive. Some guys say buy Chinese if you like to practice on your bike. But I’m of the opinion that CNC and CAD have leveled the playing field. Computer design is the great equalizer in my opinion. But defiantly shop around.

Thinking of buying a 2000 vstar, he’s asking 1000$ since it’s not running, he says bad start solenoid, you think it’s worth it?
@Lifeasiseeit1961 Жыл бұрын
From here it’s hard to say. Some guys do give up when it’s something simple. If he has a title it may very well be worth it. No title. Don’t buy in my humble opinion. Flash five to see if he bites. Never know how bad someone needs money and it is a gamble to take someone at their word if you don’t know them.
