Have you ever broken a cam chain on one of these warrior engines? There's a local warrior on FB listed for $1000 that snapped a cam chain and I'm tempted to pick it up. He said a mechanic checked it out and nothing else was damaged, but that's pretty unlikely in my experience. What do you think, send it or pass?
@everythingmechanical_yt3 жыл бұрын
Make sure you know the prices in your area. I would only buy it if it's a really really good deal. Usually on these engines the timing chain will stretch and cause a "knock" as it slaps against the bore. If it actually snapped, it must have been doing this for awhile. It's possible that nothing else is damaged, but it's likely that the engine has a lot of hours and wear on it, it takes a lot to snap one of those

@@skeletonweevil8511 when you put the transmission in neutral, you should be able to spin the input shaft, but the output shaft should not spin. It may be possible that it spins a little bit but should stop if you hold it with your hand (it's been awhile since I did this so I don't completely remember). So I rebuilt warrior 350. Put a new piston from amazon in it because it had a 5 star rating. Crankshaft spins fine, new timing chain and valve clearance is set properly. Once I install cam the motor only turn half way and stop forward or backwards. No spark plug is in it so it should spin freely but it’s not. I took the cam back out and noticed a deep scratch inside head like cam is too big to spin but it’s the original cam and was spinning fine before the rebuild. TDC is perfect so idk what else it could be to cause the original cam to not turn. Can someone give me suggestions please?

My 95 warrior 350 will blow some blue smoke after on for a while. Is this what I need done? Thanks
@everythingmechanical_yt3 жыл бұрын
It could need new piston rings or valve guide seals. If your quad burns oil (blows blue smoke) after it's warmed up, you likely need new piston rings. If it's only when it starts up and goes away once the engine warms up, it may just need new valve guide seals. I demonstrate how to do these in the video, however both piston rings and valve guide seals can be done without removing the engine from the quad. I have a video doing piston rings on a Yamaha Wolverine 350 that you can follow since it uses the same top end. Let me know if this helps!

After finding this video I want to put this comment to see if anyone would know possibly what’s wrong with my quad. I got a 2007 Yamaha raptor 350 I’m in the middle of doing the timing chain and when I drained the oil I had some metal in it but not a lot then I took the oil filter off and had a bunch of metal shavings on the filter and in the oil filter housing. When my quad is hot it doesn’t like it shift into neutral does anything think that the neutral gearing in the engine is bad or could it be something else causing my issue?
@everythingmechanical_yt5 ай бұрын
A lot of people think they have metal in their oil filter when it’s really just clutch dust from normal wear. Unless you have chunks of metal in the filter or more likely the screen, you’re probably okay. Check to see if the particles are magnetic first. As far as neutral being hard to find, your shift star or spring could in theory be worn out but I’d say it’s unlikely. If your bike has an aftermarket direct mount shifter that can make it harder to find too.
@partytime115 ай бұрын
@@everythingmechanical_yt I had some pretty small metal chunks in the oil it’s self but nothing huge. I didn’t know if the shift cam assembly would cause something like that or possibly the neutral gear itself is going in wheeler. I just don’t want to run it and have something in the gearing blow or something if it’s potentially only the shift assembly
@everythingmechanical_yt5 ай бұрын
@@partytime11 I doubt you will, honestly these engines are really tough and the oil pumps are really strong, I’ve seen some pretty big chunks of metal in the bottom of these engines even a tooth off 4th gear and we didn’t know until I tore it apart for a rod knock. I’d check if the chunks are magnetic but again if it looks like a little bit of glitter in the oil filter it’s probably just clutch dust
