I have the YBL 613 G (inline version) and for use in a brass band I love it!

I just acquired one of Phil Teele's (RIP) 612s in silverplate. I played one in my HS years in early 80s before switching back to tenor (orchestral). All I use it for is playing bass in a friend's big band and after one rehearsal...I dare say it's perfect for that, but probably too zappy for pure orchestral work. But I hear Pierre Beaudry played one in Montreal for years. Anyway, I'm looking into getting the split linkages from a model 620 retrofit as the two horns use the same valve chassis. And hoping to dig up a D slide.

Very cool! I think it's interesting that Mr. Teele had such a preference for silverplate when it is a relative rarity in a lot of professional settings; I will have to do more research to suss out why silver worked so well for him!

I have the D slide on my 612 that a lot of people want, hehe. Do you find that mouthpieces go in deeper on Yamaha Bass Trombone (receivers) than other brands? Just something I noticed on my 612 and on my YBL-822G, that If the normal depth that the shank goes in is 1 inch, my mouthpiece goes in just a little more (around 1/8 inch deeper).

How about one of your family duets? You must have a YSL-007 or something in there?

How do you get your low c to come out so clear?

Practice. Kudos to him doing it on a 2G. I need at least a 1 1/4G rim to make that note happen.

I played a horn like this in college for a few years. I have been trying to figure out the model for a long time. I ‘looks’ just like this and I know the bore was .562, but no other details. I have been reading that there was also a similar 611ii…but can’t find full specs so I may have hard that model…anyone know where I can find the specs for each?

Yup. That's my bone alright. Neer let me down but once, and even that was my own damn fault. Bur you need the D crook though.
