I knew it!!! I knew it was bullshit when my mechanic said that the seats needed to be cut to match the new valves
@nickopedia56694 жыл бұрын
but they do? Well maybe you could get away with it if you are just changing out the valves and not repairing anything, but the service manual says to always re-cut the seats so the valves can wear in properly. At the same time, don't even bother with replacing the valves if you're not going to cut the seats, just clean them of deposits and remember which one goes where. AND NEVER LAP THEM. they are usually coated on these high performance engines.

Yeah U know ya what your doing, been around for a while easy 2 tell.
@anthonywilliams46384 жыл бұрын
Unless this engine is going to be used for low speed commuting, then the decision to use Loctite to keep the sleeve in place is fatally flawed. The sleeve should have been shrunk into the head, with the head heated to about 450 degrees in an oven , and after cooling the inner face which would have been machined smaller than the diameter of the valve cup, would be machined to clearance size. In that way, the machined sleeve will stay in place even at racing speeds. j

@NickoLps No, it works at probably 5000 strokes per minute, These engines definitely rev past 10,000 rpm. @Anthony Williams this is literally what loctite retaining compound is meant for, and actually much more severe cases as well. it will work without a problem.
@llewvirtue8614 жыл бұрын
The only thing I may have done differently is, I would have made the sleeve a bit more of an interference fit, heated the head up in an oven, put the sleeve on dry ice and then fitted it. I am not keen on the loctite idea, but that is just me
@PaulXchannel4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. This glue Loctite is awesome . My long-standing problems are over with him.
@llewvirtue8614 жыл бұрын
Same valve configuration as original Fzr 750
@nickopedia56694 жыл бұрын
loctite 638 isn't a regular threadlocker. It's a permanent retaining compound, and I would trust it far more than a shrink fit on such a thin-wall aluminum piece. A shrink fit is only as strong as the weakest component in it.

Not if it's your bike and you're doing it cause you like machining. A decent condition used head is usually $400-$500, vs maybe 8 hours relaxing in the shop (and I'm a novice, this guy probably spent less than 5 hours, with 2-3 hours of that being setup)
