I think we're gonna see the long term viability of Chinese motorcycles being ja fine. In Denmark, where I'm from originally, registration taxes makes it near impossible for most people to own decent vehicles. So for at least 20 years Hyosung Motorcycles have been a quite substantial sales success there, and they seem to be really good quality.

The only thing that really matters is the Parent Company's commitment to Quality Control. The Japanese have been masters of this for Decades. As long as your Manufacturer is following their model you should be fine. I used to have a Moto Guzzi, and the best mechanic for it I ever found grew up in the 60's & 70's in Rhodesia. His father imported Suzuki equipment to Africa. He had a lot of room, and Suzuki paid him to keep EVERY broken part of any Suzuki product. Every two years half a dozen Suzuki Engineers would show up and measure and test every replaced part, and work out why it failed. He loved Moto Guzzi's, but knew why the Japanese dominated the market. They were doing Quality Control before we even knew the term...

You should care about where products are manufactured. It's called being a responsible consumer and citizen. It matters. Of course it's not binary good/bad (depends on country, what is being manufactured, etc. etc. many many factors), but it definitely matters.

As a previous owner of a track prepped KTM RC 390, it seemed like all of the engine and cooling system issues that I experienced with that motorcycle were all directly related to the engineering of the parts and systems and not the manufacturing or assembly of these parts.

BMW, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki and many others has its own factory all quite far from Brazils populational and economic centers as the factorys are in the city of Manaus in the middle of the Amazon. The logic is to bring development and jobs to the Amazon region, avoiding people to have to explore the forest.

They still say made in England on them as although many of the parts are made abroad the bikes are assembled in the UK. Many machines might’ve have Italian brakes and tyres, Japanese exhausts, German electronics and suspension from Sweden, manufacturers have been outsourcing for many years. Often the quality comes down to the metallurgy of the alloys rather than the CNC work which can be outstanding from the eastern manufacturers.

Well, we are glad for that.

Yes, well, your Ducati is from the era of them being actually MV Agusta's interpretation of Ducati. Cagiva/MV Agusta owned Ducati back then and all the bikes, engines, everything was designed by CRC which is part of MV Agusta. Fantastic time period! Then much later on some gray-haired billionaire German elitists (who despise people like those who actually buy their bikes) who own Volkswagen bought it for their personal ego-boost. They turned it into a cynical marketing company to squeeze what they can from selling fake Mickey Mouse "Ducati" brand to uninformed consumers.

Just a disclainmer: Bikes (and cars) "manufactured" in Brasil contains only 30% (rounded up) local parts due to taxes, meaning just cables, tires, filters and other replacebles are local. The real deal is sent from who knows where to be assembled and sent to both local market, most of America (the continent, not just Murica, lol) and Europe. That's the case with Triumph, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawazaki, Ducati, BMW Motorrad, Honda, Volkswagen, Toyota and Nisan Renault. H-D still have a couple brasilian assembly lines to suply LatAm markets. And in 2020 Royal Enfield oppened an assembly plant in Argentina, not sure if just for LatAm or whe whole continent.

Example in Philippines. Yamaha 125 ytx is made in India, while the MT 15 is a higher end Yamaha which is made in Thailand. Both countries can make great bikes as long as they are supplies with the proper machinery from Japan to make the bikes. Biggest problem I see here is new price hikes all the time. That is where the China bikes make sense. The Yamaha xsr 155 a year ago cost 164,000 peso, around 3,300 us dollars. Same bike a year later around 3,600 us dollars. A china knock off of that bike will cost 1200 us dollars. Not as good as the xsr but the xsr is not 3 times better than china knock off. China is selling more motorcycles here because people simply cannot afford the rising prices of the big 4 Japanese bikes. I own a Yamaha aerox with the great 155 engine and I use it to drive on long trips through mountains an locally. I will be getting a utility bike a 150cc Enduro used to carry water and gas containers and use in areas where the terrain is not excessible to the aerox and it costs half of what the aerox cost. A local welding shop will make brackets and attach to motorcycle. Last year we were hit hard by hurricane Odette and the floods and destruction it caused is a good reason for a chain driven Enduro. Belt drive does not hold her well under water, re-oil chain and you are good to go. A survival bike when things go bad it's hard to beat a Enduro. Lite weight Enduro, forget the 1250cc adventure bikes, to heavy and useless in hurricane/typhoon. A survival bike, 125 to 250 cc max, if you can't get it out of the mud by yourself when it's sunk it's to big and heavy. Knobby tires are useless in mud, you need chains on tires. The big paddle type tires not available on island. You order from Amazon will take 6 months to get here or more than likely never arive. Island life where it takes a boat to get here, you have to be creative. Places like this the impossible is done everyday.

Do some research on the Lean production method. Toyota had one guy who basically got fed up with people fucking up cast engine blocks all the time and created a system that lends itself to constructive criticism, eliminates wasteful practices, and pumps out consistently good products. They applied this to their entire company, taking their profits and re-investing everything into quality control. Many other companies started doing the same and so long as they followed the teachings they ended up pretty successful. Lean Six Sigma became a thing because of this (Six Sigma part comes from Motorola), as well as ITIL (the IT version) and many business professionals will try to get certified in it in an effort to improve their business.

The salesman at the HD/Triumph dealer here in Hawaii told me the 2020 Triumph T120 Bonneville I was buying was shipped here all the way from England. I told him I was pretty sure most of the Bonneville lineup is actually made in Thailand now. He said “Oh? Really I have no idea where they are made”. That was the closest thing to an honest answer I got out of him the whole day. Wherever it was made, the build quality is superb so I really don’t care. I’m very happy with my choice. It’s a global market, so just buy the bike you like.
@pistonburner64482 жыл бұрын
You have to remember that motorcycle assembly isn't a huge part of the process. Some brands might pay a few quid extra per bike to ship _all_ the parts from "Eastern" production facilities only to _assemble_ the bike in the European/American country for the sake of image. That strategy is looking like it's increasing. In an industry I worked at, some product lines were manufactured in a foreign-owned factories in China, Belarus, and other countries, then shipped to our warehouse (which was actually outsourced to an international logistics corporation), then shipped to all our customers from "our" warehouse. It made a loop from "our" warehouse with our sending address on it for the customers to think it was all coming "from our company". Look at KTM: many of their bikes are made in India not even by their factory but by another company's factory, then many of their bikes have probably all components made abroad including such critical components as the engines, and the whole company is owned AT LEAST 49% by the Indian Bajaj, and it's not certain if Bajaj might've bought a portion of KTM itself as a roundabout way of owning much more than 50% of the company without it looking like it.

The thing that makes laugh the most about Triumph is, the more they move production abroad the more Union Jacks you see on their bikes!! They're totally screaming about their Britishness whilst pedalling badly made overpriced crap that's been made halfway round the world. I'm proud of my new Royal Enfield Classic 350. It has to be about the most honest bike on the market today.

My ZH2 was forged in the heart of a dying star. That dying star happened to reside in kawasaki heavy industry plant, Japan.

And it's not even close to the fastest thing Kawasaki has ever made haha. They made fighter planes in WW2, the best fighter to come out of Japan in WW2 in terms of performance was made by them (but very late in the war and not in large quantities so had no real impact other than getting shot down by P51s and B29s)

The Scrambler is also made in Italy ! Not only in Thailand. The European Scramblers come from Italy. Your info is wrong. I have a flat track pro from Bologna. You can see that in the frame number

Fact: The Daytona was made in heaven under the watchful gaze of angels and then gifted to humanity in what is commonly referred to as the Christmas star, which was actually the proto-Daytona entering Earth's atmosphere to seed the land for future Squids some 2000 years later. ...or so I've heard Yam say.

Moto Guzzi makes bikes in Italy, by Italians with mostly parts made in Italy. No illegal aliens were harmed in typing this....

Another Yammie video that proves Harley riders are athletically capable of being pearl divers or Astronauts. They are able to hold their breath until the brand is mentioned. I think it was four minutes this time. My thanks, holding my breath for 9 minutes is uncomfortable.

Biking in india is not hobby it's necessity so there are many bikers in india so make sense to build small bikes here caus of demand
@mrvwbug44232 жыл бұрын
Yeah, bikes in countries where they are primary transportation are very different. Smaller, cheaper and in general more geared towards practicality. It's like India with its small utility bikes that look like some weird mix of a dirt bike and a commuter bike and Europe and its love of scooters.

Ducatis are made at Dafra's factory in the Amazon tax free zone, Royal enfield is next.
