I'm late in watching this video, but after 15k+ miles on my Z900RS I can tell you that i translate those "nice" and "pleasant" qualities as the bike doing whatever you ask it to. I've toured long distance on it doing 300-500 mile days, loaded up with camping equipment. I've done gravel roads and a surprise water crossing (I'd rather not, though). I regularly ride it hard in the mountains keeping up with sport bikes (i did upgrade my suspension). I like the fact that it will play nice around town at 4k but really opens up after 6k. It's a great combination of design aesthetic, practicality, and performance for the street, and i don't think I'll ever sell mine (there's room for more bikes in my garage).

Mine has 33,000 miles on it. Had valves checked at 15,000 and 30,000 but they did not need to be adjusted. Only thing I have had to do is tires, brakes, battery and oil changes. I commute every day on it. If I want to go 700 miles, I just put on a back pack and Gore-Tex. Super easy to change the oil. I put a center stand on it along with a back rest. Really looks like something I rode in the 70s.

Best mod for it, is to just swap the header with the Akrapovic and leave the stock can. Factory can is literally a straight pipe, you won't really get anything more open. Kawasaki actually put time and effort and r&d into designing that can to make a very specific sound. You can put Z900 cams in it and a tune to get to 130whp
@rconnel3
@rconnel3 2 жыл бұрын
This. Installed the Akra header on my friend's and the sound was fantastic. He has since put a yoshi can on the header to tone the sound down some. Yes the yoshi can is quieter than the stock one.
@iansians6703
@iansians6703 2 жыл бұрын
Agree, that's what I ordered from the dealer - The akro definitely adds power and torque especially when tuned to do so, however, it was pretty noisy and leaked at the connection such that it wasn't easy to fix. Hence, put a Scorpion slip on on it instead. It is a little quieter but not much - interesting sound though - better. Cost a bit but the sound and the look are better in my view - probably just justifying my decision - no leaks though.

Having always ridden insanely powerful sports bikes. The Z900RS is my first real naked bike. I now live on a small island in Japan that has amazing roads, super tight technical mountain roads, but there’s just no place for a Sports Bike here. The RS is a very easy bike to live with and does quite well in the twisties. As far as a track day bike goes, I’m heading to Suzuka circuit this weekend so we will find out. Not expecting much, it’s flat out at about 220 kph (130 mph) but should be loads of fun.

@@Spartansrule118 it was good fun. As I said the Z900RS is no rocket but it’s easy to ride and handles well through the twisty sections. It gets left behind as soon as the track opens up though. I would recommend it to anyone who doesn’t have a lot of track experience, you can have plenty of fun but it’s not going to get away from you.

Good review Yam - not just of the bike, but of the TYPE of bike. I started on one of Honda's air-cooled sport naked/cruiser "superbikes" when I was 40 (if you don't count the Rebel 250 I beat like a red-headed stepchild for 6 months) I still have it, and I bought another similar model since the first one was also 40 when I started. Since then, I've tried out sportbikes and the off-road bikes tall enough to warrant stirrups, and I am PERFECTLY happy with these 100ish hp, 500-600lb,standard position, just COMFY Japanese inline 4s. A critic could say I started riding too late, to which I would reply to the young buck "Your ass is still getting in the way of your head." The day will never come that a person could become bored of riding this style bike, so they are perfect for any street-exclusive rider.

Having had many bikes over the years 78 kz650, 2010 z1000, sv1000 list goes on this bike is my favorite one of them all. Sold my b king ended up getting one of these instead, getting older dont need all that power. 110-140hp on a street bike is plenty, the older you get the less you care about all out speed these bikes have plentty of power. And more power can be had with mods to them if thats important to you. The character, nostalgia and feel of these bikes, also being a lifelong fan of the older Z1's, theres just something about these bikes.

They invented the retro bike back in the '90's - the Zephyr. Lacked the tech advantages of current technology and very much a parts bin machine (master cylinders from the gpz900, brake pads/calipers between the 750 and the 1100 in common). Kwaka have always adapted proven tech throughout their model range. Why not do the same with their styling cues? With current tech, and the nostalgic looks to boot. Good and fair review, lots of stuff to agree with, especially that it is different to the usual Kawasaki offerings. However, maybe it's just me but the bike is not heavy - its the easiest bike I've ever ridden, you can ride it in your sleep. You can be crisp or sloppy, it copes no worries, forgives anything you do. The seat, oh the seat, hate to disagree but I think it is awful, hard and pitches you forward uncomfortably. It could be my height but had to get it completely remade, along with lowering the footpegs in order to achieve basic comfort. Otherwise, great bike.

Yesterday evening I was cruising Kansas City on my 1979 cb650. Ujms just work provided you do any basic care. Comfortable highway blaster that loves to lean, runs just fine with badge and bar boys with twice the displacement

What a noob. Took an exemplary motorcycle and made it sound average. It isn't. Intermediate? No. Large, substantial feeling bike with an entertaining soundtrack that needs nothing but listening. Handles effortlessly like the SV650. Kawasaki really did their homework on this one. Makes the Z900 feel like a kid's playbike. Let's leave this one for the grown ups.

I owned to 2020 in the candy green and yellow stripes. I could not take it out without getting questioned and complimented on it. Not kidding everytime! Regret getting rid of it but I'm in my I want to ride everything phase. I did convince my buddy to buy a 22 in the blue so I still get to ride it every now and then. I'll own another one in the future.

Hey, Love this bike and this review. I'm very tempted to buy this bike but I have some reservations about it. Hoping you have a few minutes to help. I'm a returning biker, of sorts. I grew up around bikes as my dad had them, my buddies in my teens and early twenties had them, I had a moped and rode it for about 7 years. I'm now in my early 50s and I want to get a real bike. I got my license a few years ago. I realize a smaller learner bike isn't totally necessary for me as I have some experience. I'm also not so sure about a midweight as I don't want to get bored too quickly. I'm looking for a bike that I can re-acquaint myself with riding, get used to pretty quickly, and grow with. A 'one and done' bike. My question to you is: would this bike fit this category?

Get formal "beginners" training BRC, or at least the one day class to get your motorcycle endorsement. Keep the RPMs below 4-5k until you think you are ready for the power. Just know that you are the target audience for this bike that Kawasaki is going after. It has more than plenty of power, but I'd be very reluctant to recommend it to beginners.

Starting on an 05 FZ6, I could see myself going to one of these in a year or three. Or a Speed Twin. Or a CB650R. Or a Street Triple. lols

@@someguy9520 it may be close to 1000ccs displacement wise but in terms of performance it competes with the 750-800 class like MT09, Duke 890, F850, Street Triple etc.

So I went to a dealer to purchase a 2022 XSR900 this week. They aren't available anywhere near my house however one dealer is willing to take a deposit for the next one that arrives. What is a realistic price to pay out the door in the current market. Dealer says its $14k with bike, fees, and taxes. Is this typical now? If not, what is reasonable for a new XSR900 out the door in the U.S.

Hi Yammie, how is this bike compared to a SV650? I hear that an inline-four is smoother than a vtwin, but also a little worried about the higher cc. Will the speed knock me on my ass? Thanks!
