I bought a '22 Carbon R in August. Indian completely changed the personality if the bike. Let's just say I was less than impressed when I test rode a FTR in '19. The changes in the '22 is beyond amazing. Well done, Indian.

I was an early adopter on the 2019 Race Replica. I LOOOOVED that bike. I put 8k miles on it and absolutely adored it. The day I traded it for the Carbon R, I literally had tears in my eyes to leave my RR behind at OKC Indian. The very first ride, my sadness changed over to shame, as I knew immediately how far outclassed the RR is compared to the Carbon R. I knew right away, I knew nothing about riding because the Carbon was soon much faster at everything, even tho the PowerPlant was unchainged. It even revs silky smooth up to 3k before getting totally passed off! The responses in this video are spot on.

Goes to show how important tiers are on a bike that's what I believe the big difference is. I bet if you put the same tire set up on the original one it would make a massive difference.

I own the 2019 race replica, which is IMHO, the best looking version of this bike so far. I have seen the Carbon and sat on it at my dealer.. it's great, don't get me wrong, but I'm glad I got the race replica before they changed it to the Carbon. The stance of the bike is designed for the offset 19/18" wheels. Without the bigger wheels it loses that intangible the previous version had. I also prefer the higher and wider bars of the outgoing model. I feel in love with the Carbon seat so I ordered one for my 2019.

I’ve owned the OG 2019 Race Replica and loved the wheel base so much that I bought a 2022 Championship Edition. Sold that for a 2024 100% Carbon which has the 17’s. While I still have love for the previous offset wheels on the 19 and 22, I must admit that the 17’s ride and handle exponentially better. I’m a tall guy so the increase in height on the 19 and 22 never bothered me. But man what a ride difference.

I've ridden both of those at the dealer in Daytona. Whitney is right. The carbon is even on KZbin being made fun of as McDonald's-ish. But they do have other colors that are cheaper and just as good. Don't be hypnotized by the colorful packaging. Overall, I'd buy the previous year model with the 19"/18" setup, but I'm tall. It's more relaxed and easier to turn in. It's noticeable. The difference in the shocks? Not really a difference. You know they do make budget Ohlins just like they make budget Brembo, right?. The 19/18 tire bikes also had slightly more ground clearance. Why I passed on the FTR? The exhaust. Looks like it was spray painted gold by a 10 year old. The dealer in Daytona had every color and both years and all the exhausts showed chipping and uneven coating. It was nasty. The bike has a very room seat. Whitney mentioned the turn-in on the older bike being sluggish. That's because she's too short to sit back and shift the weight where it's supposed to be on that bike. She's trying to ride it like a crotch rocket and it's not. It's trying to tell her it's not! And you finally mention that the bikes were fitted with very different tread. Big difference if all you're used to is a normal sport bike tire. Take it to the track? Please Whitney. How many normal riders are buying this bike for that? Come back to Earth. Most people won't even use more than 30% of this bike's capabilities in the twisties. By the way, the dealer was trying to steer me into buying last year's model, spouting off that they could make better deals. Problem with this bike is that there are bikes out there, as capable or more capable, at a better price.

I've got a 2022 FTR Rally which still has 19" and 18" wheels (spoked), but it has a rounder tar than the first models. No doubt the other new 2022 models will be better for someone looking to take it to a track, and I'm sure in the twisties they would lean a little better than the Rally, but the Rally is pretty good in the twisties as well. I just took mine to the Tail of the Dragon and I had a blast.

I've ridden all 2022 versions except the Rally & I don't need the ride modes myself so I know now I made the right choice for me. If one day the suspension needs work I'll upgrade to the Ohlins at that point. Gotta say the Toce full exhaust with the Lloydz flash makes the FTR have a much angrier & aggressive feel. I recommend that upgrade to anyone getting an FTR, otherwise that distinct V-twin sound is just wasted pushing through the big cat & standard exhausts.

The rake on the new FTR is different to, a bit steeper ( 25.3 instead of 26.3 degrees for the 2019 model) So not only the wheels make it corner better. Front brakedisk are the same 320mm as the 2019 model. Rear disk on the 2019 is bigger on the 2019 with 265mm to 260mm on the new one. That carbon is probably one of the best looking bikes on the market right now, It was my first choice before settling on the 2022 Ducati hypermotard 950 SP I went with the Ducati because the Indian seems to have a lot of problems with fueling that I keep reading about I wonder if they fixed all these issues? Not that the Ducati don't have issues. Either way to very expensive bikes with proprietary software which will only cost you a lot more in the future having to bring it to the dealer.😒

I’m curious about the market for it because it starts at MT-10 price and ends at European hyper naked price. Now I’m not a sport bike guy at all. I’d never suggest one to anybody. I don’t really get the ‘cruising pace’ thing Spite, I think you’ll be in a minority there.. it’s a good chassis, sport naked and good handling and proper grippy tyres make the bike. The compromised high tyres was too throw back to the flat tracker, now Murica has a proper sport naked since the Buell Lightning ⚡️ also isn’t all ‘22 bikes now got 17s which will be the biggest change, so doesn’t have to be a $5k upgrade, I think closest competitor now is Diavel or Monster.
