I hate to be redundant...but the Daytona 955i was a shocker to me, purchased on a whim off Ebay for $3500.00 6,800 mile MINT!!!Doesn't measure up to my Duc999 w/ FBF bore kit, Ohlins, Marchesinis, Corse cams...but at 955cc it rips...and flies under the insurance radar at below 998-999cc.. add 17T front, 46T rear sproxs, TOR exhaust Tune ECU map,...it's fun... a great bike for beginners looking to move up from 400-600cc ..Insurable above everything else!

@@PEIRDO777 Yep, the British are unpredictable, to say the least. And the Americans, I'd rather not disqualify them all, though temptation complies my moral constituation. What was the question, again? And what have rhetorical questions to do with language? It has to do with culture, and I can tell you, your English is so clear, nothing is lost in translation. Sure, my English is limited. Just don't forget one thing, I hate people using abstract and complicated language without good reason. Keep it simple, translate all those Latin words to English, make it easier to understand your point. There are exceptions, using one professional's word could be shorter. Some people misunderstand my wish for clarity, they tell me I'm stupid. Usually they are the ones being not so smart. So, yeah, being an old Dutch man has its disadvantages. But I can tell you, there are Dutch men having less talent for language. Happily there is also a Dutch man lecturer at Princeton, guys like him have far more practice talking American than your humble servant, Voor Naam

You cant have this list without the 2004-2005 R1. It IS in the price range and is WAY better than the 1998-99 R1. It is still one of the sexiest and still modern looking bikes ever made. Amazing engine too that takes well to bolt ons and tune.

$1,800 for my 5th gen Interceptor. It's not as far as some of the other bikes here. But I'd take it over most of them. These gear driven cam motors are famous for going over 100,ooo miles with no maintenance. It loops 1st gear if you hold is open, stands straight up if you clutch it at 60mph and corners way better than either of the 900's I've owned. All while being comfortable and sounding like a quiet MotoGP bike.

Only problem with the early R1's is second gear was weak. If it has very many miles and was rode moderately hard second gear is probably missing a couple teeth. Same for the FZ1's since they used the same engine. The Exxup valve likes to stick too. I have a 98R1 and a 00 ZX9R. Don't forget about the ZX12.

Yes, a 20 year old liter bike that was known in its day as the "widowmaker" due to its unpredictable handling and instability at high speeds, a great recommendation especially for someone watching this looking for their first big bike, what could go wrong lol
@kasper79
@kasper79 4 жыл бұрын
@@BigUriel I think you should read up on the bike. The widowmaker was the tl1000s which used a rotary damper not on the TL1000R. The tl1000s also has a different frame then the tl1000r. The unpredictable of the TL1000S came from its rotary damper and the rear shock. When you cook the rear shock and the rear wheel won’t have much traction, which can easily put you on your ass when you overpower the tire with the abundant torque of the V-twin. You can do this on most liter bikes. If you're getting into a liter bike and don't understand the amount of torque you have on your hands, then maybe stick to a 600cc or lower.

Used VFRs are generally pretty cheap, and built to last. The old CBR600F kind of fits the definition of "sports touring" by modern standards, even though it was supposed to be a sports bike back in that day. The Yamaha YZF-600R can also be had for next to nothing.

Just seems like yesterday that I was drooling at these bikes, but I didn't have the money. Now they are considered dated? I still love the rounded look of the older bikes. I'm retro and the styling and performance of the GSX R1000 is more than enough bike for the fastest of the so called modern day squid riders. Even today I would contest that the old liter bikes are way too much power for the streets. They really were designed to be track weapons. I first learned how to ride on a 75 Honda CB 350 back in 79. I then bought a Honda Hawk 450T new in 82 and rode that bike for over 10 years without one problem. I had a lot of fun and good memories on this motorcycle. Was it under powered? Yeah. Was it too small for my 6' 2" frame? Okay. Was it difficult to hang with a GPz 550 Kawasaki in the long straights? Indeed. Could I work on it and keep it tuned with standard household tools? Yes! Did it have outstanding gas mileage? Yep-54 city/62 Hwy. Did I really need a Honda 750 Interceptor? No. Did I want one? Yes. You get the idea by now right? Cheers fellow motorcyclists...keep the rubber on the road!

Top speed of 161.5, and HP is 143 with 78 fps of torque. Soft seat and a little more upright riding position make is nice sport touring bike that still out runs most other bikes. None the less, the year/value of the bike also plays a great deal with insurance quotes such as comprehensive. Comprehensive would've costed an extra $100/month on my 2014 Yamaha R1 since it's "the" bike people steal. And full coverage, my insurance agent said and I quote "You don't want to know" and said to call back in a couple of months when I turn 25 to get dramatically better rates. The very words "sport" or "supsport" are trigger words for insurance companies. I had liability, medical and comprehensive on my R6 for 3 years, but for now I'm just going with liability and medical on the R1. Don't park your bike in stupid places, and if you want a fast bike, get a fast non-sportbike such as a cheap FZ1, GSX-S1000.

@@shahfacekillah Yea insurance rates here sound just as bad. I was quoted for a 2007 GSXR-1000 back in the day, and they wanted $345/month for full coverage. Given, I was more inexperienced back then, yet I have a perfect driving record. Still $345. My friend has full coverage on his 16 GSX-S1000F, and he pays about $150/month. 25 yrs old, been riding for 1 year, no tickets, etc. His being considered a "standard" bike helps alot. Power is equal to my 05 R6 at medium-high speeds. And low speeds, the GSX-S1000 is slightly quicker. I was the type who wanted the 1000 sport, but couldn't afford to buy outright nor the full coverage insurance. So I substituted by getting a relatively modern 600 sport which surprisingly subdued my desire for the R1 (the 05 R6 Raven) for a steal of a price. Paid $2700 for a $4000 bike in near perfect condition with extras. Fast forward to the present I finally bought my dream bike outright just to realize I'm really going to miss the R6 because of how good it was to me, and just how different the R6 and R1 are.
