I remember when the Busa first came out and I fell in love, unfortunately my 1st one was stolen and I fell into even more deep depression. Ended up with lupus and ended up in a wheelchair for 4 1/2 yrs and I dreamed of getting back on another Busa. So I did and now I'm riding a 06 Limited and now I'm going to put a gen 2 tail on it. Even tho they have faster bikes now, I will always love the Busa. The first gen is the most raw form and you can never get the feeling out of your system. All HAIL THE KING !!!!!!

Same I was in high school when the gen 1 came out. I had a old gsxr 1100 and I remember I would look at the newest cycle world magazines and seen the first hayabusa article and was so blown away by the looks and performance. When I seen one in person I fell in love . like you said they have lighter and faster bikes today but it's not the same plus there is lots of performance and custom things for the Bus a. I got a gen 1 and gen 2 and if they ever make a gen 3 that will be joining the other 2.

I bought my Hayabusa for Safety. When I started riding, me and my friends were trying to learn how to stunt.. dropped my bike so many times and flipped it doing a wheelie... I went years without a bike, dreaming about riding.. I missed it so bad! Anyways.. I bought my Hayabusa because I knew I wouldn't be dumb enough to try and stunt on it. It worked, and I loved my Hayabusa!!! I miss it so bad... Though doing 170mph on the highway wasn't very safe either.

Yam, just had to drop you a line after watching your blogs about the busa! You keep saying that it’s a heavy bike (and it is for a sport bike) and how hard it is to maneuver at low speeds and in traffic, but I think that’s because you’re comparing it to your smaller lighter bikes. My wife and I have commuted on Harley bikes for many years. She has a street glide and I have an ultra classic. 2 of Harleys bigger bikes. We recently bought 2 busas, one for her and one for me. After years of riding 800+ lbs bikes for years, the busas feel ultra light to us, we can whip them around traffic very easy and now use them as our daily commuters. So, in short, the busa is going to feel either light and nimble, or heavy and cumbersome depending on what you have been or are used to riding. Happy motoring!

Everything you said about the Gen 1 Hayabusa is 100% true. It may not be the fastest bike, it may not be the prettiest, it may not be relevant in today's world of super sport bikes but it is a legend. I can't think of another bike that brings more of a sense of respect when you mention it's name than the Hayabusa. It's big, it's fast and takes a certain kinda rider to tame this beast with no nannies. I love mine and will probably never get rid of it. It's definitely not a daily driver or a track bike, that's what my others are for but when it comes to highway rides, it's tough to beat.

I would get sinstered race pads and new for its brakes, assuming the rotors aren't worn either, It sounds like to you, that the brakes feel worn, and likely unbled, with old fluid in them. Fix them ASAP before anything or anyone elses rides it PLEASE. But it is a 230+kilo (without rider & fuel) late '90s super GSXR, so it will naturally feel somewhat wooden, and is without any electronic aids, ABS or other rider 'cotton-wool wraping' systems.

Think about checking the front fork oil. The seals seem to last a long time(so they are never serviced) and no one changes out the fork oil. While you're at it add some cartridge emulators and it will handle worlds better! One of the most surprising services I did to my 2000 Busa.

The reason we end up loving it you explain every time you giggle as the revs increase. I had many liter bikes and every ride on the Busa made me shake my head and check my pulse. Quarter mile on the Busa is kinda like "What the expletive?". And that's with full Akrapovics, powercommander, and lowering links only. Turbo must be so overkill.

also fun fact, gen 1 has a lower compression ratio and basically bullet proof internals (from what I read) and can literally take a turbo with no mods :)

Not a BusaBoi, but my dad owns a Kawasaki GPZ 1100, which i rode the entire first season og having my bike license. I identify so much with pretty much all the things Pappa Yam said. I now commute on a Suzuki GS 500, and i constantly yearn for the torque.
