Short, simple, straight to the point, no bullsht. Thats what most production related channels are missing. Thanks Yan, as much as it was a pleasure to hear you live before in Budapest you continue to bring joy constantly with these videos and gotten even closer to my heart as an artist with these.

When you say that you keep the signal at -18, that seems quite low even for a dry kick and sub. What is the volume difference between the kick and the sub? Curious how you manage the signal and keep it at -18, do you put a utility as a first plugin on the group before the processing? Also you say that you keep the low end group at -6, but the meter shows the peak at -0.1. Is that the meter from the master channel, showing the volume after your master chain? Sorry for multiple questions :)
@LohPro2 ай бұрын
the lower -18 value is often the "starting point", as many analog modelled plugins are calibrated to (-18dBFS = 0VU). many people, as well as the plugins, allow for a different calibration point (ie; some people prefer a bit hotter calibration point of -14dBFS = 0VU, etc.) calibration is so that signals may be processed with more headroom available, so that when summed together, they don't clip the master buss. higher calibration points (such as -14, -12, -10, etc.) can also change how processors "color" the sound, often heard in analog modelled stuff. to keep the level going out, relatively the same as the level coming in, utility (clip gain) plugins can be used as the first insert of a mixer channel, as well as in-between each processor (assuming the plugins don't have built-in gain staging in & out controls). this way you keep your levels similar & you aren't "tricked" by hearing a louder processed signal as being "better" than the quieter unprocessed signal. individual channels "can" clip, as well as bus/aux groups, but the master should be kept from clipping. also, this usually only applies to "peak" levels, as the "perceived/average loudness" of the sound may differ from the peak level greatly (which is why so many people use clippers on stuff like drums & percussion) hope this helps

cool, but why did you just cut at 64hz?
@metaphoricalsoundeffects1400 Жыл бұрын
Another tips; i think put distortion or overdrive bring more harmonics on sub, so you can cut high frequencies without worrying about about cutting high frequencies. So the Subs always feels full*. For me at least =)

Awesome tutorial! A noob question but if you have time to respond I would like to ask you below, - Are these low ends include both Kick and Bass? - If yes, do you group them midi tracks together and add these chains or processed in a single audio track? thank you!!
@YanCook Жыл бұрын
Low End is everything from 0 to around 250hz, and yeah, I keep Kick and Sub/Bass on separate tracks and then group them together for processing.

Thanks! Would you recommend low cutting your kicks around 20-40 Hz?
@YanCook Жыл бұрын
I don't think it's necessary, you can't hear those frequencies and it can affect the kick's transient, but sometimes I do that, if the kick is too muddy. I recommend trying it, it may sound better in some cases.

On the drum buss does the frequency dial show the cut off? so freq below 54 hz arent being affected? or is that the focus area? i've always been wary of driving super low end frequencies bc of distortion. killer video thanks!
