There was a time... when I learned Tai Chi by videos... years ago. At this time, I thought I was really good. At this time, my Tai Chi looked similar to yours. But then I began to learn from real masters and also grandmasters. Day by day, hour by hour I began to understand, how wrong my techniques were and how insufficient my knowledge was. I hope, some day you will understand this as well. You should first learn, then teach - after years of practice!

+Feliciano Venturo I'll second that. You literally cannot perceive what you are missing until you learn from a master or experienced teacher / disciple. You cannot learn tai ji from books and pictures. It's impossible.

Or you could read from the masters that created the form. The Yang Style Taijiquan book by Fu Zhongwen details every little detail.

Best teaching I've seen for Tai Chi! Jake teaches from different angles using the perfect pace for his students while also providing a patient and comfortable atmosphere. :) A great resource for anyone interested in learning Tai Chi.

I was told about Tai chi from a teacher in college, and I came across your videos. You have really inspired me to begin! Are there other movements on your DVD too? Also, would I benefit from getting both the meditation and combat DVD? Thanks!!

I did it, Jake! It taken me half an hour to get used of the movements. I paid full attention to detail on the empty and full; including the breathing. How do you get used of moving in different directs like north, west, south and east? I had the most difficulty learning how to move in different directions. I also combined this form with David Dorian-Ross's first section in his beginners Tai Chi DVD. I am very excited to take the Tai Chi practice into my daily life.

Actually it depends on the teacher in general. If a good teacher has a very detailed instructional video about tai chi then you can learn from watching one. One way that you can improve your tai chi is watching how the masters do it on DVD. After all that is how Yang Lu Chan learned his Tai Chi is by watching the masters.

Tai chi is great, but you should seek out a qualified teacher of Chinese martial arts. You need someone who will teach the principals of internal arts and not just have you memorize the motions.

Hi Josh there isn't that many good books out their on Tai Chi Most of them have been plagiarised but (lost Tai Classics, is good, Mastering Yang style by Fu Zhongwen is good for the form principles. but practice , practice and practice with a good teacher. stay away from on line teaching unless he is good like Adam Mizner. Jake - may I call you "Jake"? - when you say "Yang Family" you are making a big statement. If you want to really begin to learn the rudiments of the family's tai chi, let me know, I'm not hard to find. Until then, strongly recommend you call it "Yang style". Cheers

Hi Craig I totally agree. There is too much arm movement in his form, this is the problem when people mix other styles with Tai Chi, they don't mix . He also seems very stiff and muscle bound not good for Tai Chi. Neil

From a 34-year practitioner. Who learns from a student of Huang Xin Xyan. Please learn from a proper teacher. Your structure is all wrong. Your spine is not straight. You raise your shoulders. You are leaning. It's all wrong man. Stop trying to teach.

Probably the first comment I've left on a KZbin channel in a decade. This unfortunately is a mediocre performance at best. A few things: 1. Breathing... For beginners, don't try at all to coordinate the breathing with movements. The breath should be natural, the same way you think about it when you're speaking..... Because you don't. 2. Ten principles...where are they, I don't see the crown lifted properly, the waist isn't relaxed, the energy is not right. 3. Yang Jun from the Yang Family, has TONS of perfect info. on correct practice. If you're truly interested in Yang style, look to the Yang Family. If we continue to water this stuff down purely to a make a buck....Jake, bro, you know you're part of the problem. Why not pick a style and practice everyday like a real student of the art. One style...for life dude....help others realize the truth of eastern practices like this. Trust me, you'll sleep better knowing in your heart that you're not a charlatan or dilettante for that matter. 👍
