On Friday, January 27, 2023, DiEM25 co-founder and MERA25 leader Yanis Varoufakis gave a speech at the Havana Congress on the New International Economic Order, about the need for a new Non-Aligned Movement to "end the legalised robbery of people and Earth fuelling climate catastrophe."
The co-founder of DiEM25 was in Cuba on an official visit upon an invitation from the Havana government and a key topic of discussion on his trip was the creation of a New Non-Aligned Movement that will aim for a New International Economic Order.

Cuba had a revolution that was stolen by the Castro family (the Chinese had theirs stolen by the so-called "CCP"). Dictatorship IS NOT a feature of communism. Communism should be hyper democratic rather than a crony system of family and friends getting the plum jobs and making themselves rich. George Orwell described it best, "some are more equal than others".

@@cjmacq-vg8um I understand where your coming from. And agree with you entirely . The problem is , that the mainstream political parties have all been infiltrated . Even friends and colleagues of mine ,to the right in politics , are fed up with what’s going on. What we need in the uk and I said this many years ago is a complete political and economic overhaul of the system. Starting with PR. And not single vote transfer. It has to be a universal vote. It doesn’t matter where in the country you live or what constituency. Every vote for a party , results in the proportion of seats. Then we can establish new parties even for the centre right as well as the progress left. Then consign the failed ones to the political dustbin

@@robertheap2911 ... i'm an american and i haven't found anyone in any country who's satisfied with the direction humanity is going. yet, at the same time, they all participate in and even praise the corporate police-state that now rules their daily lives. everyone complains but no one is willing to "sacrifice" anything to make things any better. i founded equalism to give people a third choice rather than the fascism being offered, now, by the left and right. but i can't get a word in edgewise. i'm silenced and censored by the elite on both sides and their followers. humanity is headed for a dystpoian future. its, in fact, already there. i see little hope for my species.

@@cjmacq-vg8um I’m English, your American, but the problem we face , along with rest of Europe and most of the world is the same. I follow what goes on in the USA. And i particularly follow the likes of Chris Hedges and Richard D Wolff. Reading between the lines they say that the American economy and the colonial foreign policy is going to come crashing down . And in the UK , this current conservative government is the worst we’ve had ever. They have moved so far to the right, behaving like a fascist dictatorship. But what has happened here now is a massive resurgence in Trade Union power and nearly all the people ( left and right) are supporting them, to the dismay of the Tory government. Both , Richard Wolff and Chris Hedges have said this is the way for forward for Americans too. I wish you well and good luck 🤞🙌

@@robertheap2911 ... yes, the whole world suffers from the same capitalist gangsterism. humanity has been ruled by gangsters for over 6000 years. regimes that call themselves "socialist" aren't socialist. they're fascist just like the capitalist countries. my question is - how many more times is humanity going to repeat the same mistakes and expect different results? just how much longer is humanity going to play this rigged game of divide and conquer the ruling elite play to maintain its corrupt power over us ALL? equalism exposes and REJECTS this rigged divide-and-conquer game. we equalists say - its time to do things differently because what we've been doing over the last 6000 years HAS FAILED in every possible way.

This brilliant man's voice brings with it a rich spring of renewal, promise, and new hope. If we ever achieve a new economy model in the world, perhaps a new political model as well, and a new future for our collective species, surely Yanis Varoufakis and the ideas of his and those around him, will play a great part in accomplishing this. It is not often I swallow a whole half hour speech broadcasted on youtube in one sitting, in one breath, unable to take my eyes and ears and mind away from it, but this is certainly the case here! I stand humbled and admiring, with a deep bow of respect and sentiment of goodwill and applause. Bravo!

Cuba. Where surgeons literally moonlight as taxi drivers because they make more money as taxi drivers than performing surgery. Cuba. Where experienced physicians make $80 per month. Cuba. Where physicians who practice abroad have to send their foreign earnings BACK to the Cuban government - even when not in their home country, they can't retain the wealth they earn. There’s a Cuban saying: “We live like poor people, but we die like rich people.” Well, in a country where you don't have political freedom or cars (per capita car ownership per 1000 people in Cuba: 67; per capita car ownership per 1000 people in USA: 908), of course you're going to be more proud of how you get to DIE than how you get to live. "Using the ratios found for other countries, corrections were proposed to the statistics [infant mortality] published by the Cuban government: instead of 5.79 per 1000 births, the rate stands between 7.45 and 11.16 per 1000 births." His call to action in the last 5 minutes or so was spot on. If the past 7-8 years have taught us anything, it is the power of what he calls "cloud capital" to steer societies and change the world, for better or for worse. I think many of us did not recognize just how powerful these nascent technological platforms were until they were harnessed for destructive ends. Those of us who were paying attention were shocked at how effective these tools are at influencing the opinions and behaviors of vast populations, and we suddenly recognized the power being wielded by those who saw the dark potential sooner than we did. But he is absolutely right - leveraging cloud capital effectively in the coming years will be a make-or-break requirement for the large-scale social changes he is proposing. Doing it well will be the key to success, and ignoring or using it poorly will likely guarantee failure.

"international workers" as if the working class people from Italy give a shit about workers in Pakistan or Brazil. or Greek working class gives a shit about Turkish working class. this is the nonsense about socialism and why fascism/nazism from an economic standpoint makes more sense to implement in a country. a pro-workers government in a country should ONLY care about the workers of its country. nothing else. economics isn't the only thing that matters anyways. local culture and traditions are also important in a county's society. it is part of a country's identity and heritage.

It’s not a difficult concept. Organising human society to produce the goods and services we need for the benefit of all rather than the few that for the last 40 years have enacted the biggest transfer of wealth and power up to themselves from ordinary people. It’s pretty much how humans cooperatively engaged for millennia. Capitalism has been a relatively short experiment, neoliberalism even shorter and much more damaging, as Yano’s described in his speech. What’s your alternative solution (genuine question)?

It's quite impressive that Varoufakis has reached the interpretation he has; there's so much muddle in-between the socialist thought of the early 20th century and his fully developed understanding of contemporary imperialism. He pulls together threads from such very different fields to create this clear and incisive story.

I loved Yanis's comment about new international economic movements that should not include theocratic regimes. It should not tolerate any abuse of human rights by governments that just because of their anti-imperialist frontage for any other reasons contrary to non-aligned movements such as having a backwards religious ideology (Iran) or for competition (Russia). As I understood, The ultimate movement's goal stands for fair economic interactions that benefit the masses and eventually end human suffering where it is a lifetime struggle for the majority of society to provide the basic necessities and seek security, a peaceful place to live and be free from warmongers and exploitations of the large cooperations.

@@_Nyx_Raven_ Right... @@tasfa10 liberal democracies have achieved more than any previous or current "actual existing socialism" , I am not talking about perfectionism here, I am talking bare minimum, democratic worker control and ownership of the means of production (1 worker, 1 share, 1 vote) and adherence to basic human rights and international law, (like not doing a genocide which many "actually existing socialist" countries have done) basic freedoms are and weren't guaranteed like freedom of assembly and free speech, they also lacked and still lack any form of democratic representation with free and fair elections (which should be a bare minimum for a liberal society let alone a socialist one, which should require more than that including banning lobbying and improving democracy with ranked choice voting more referendums etc etc which none have done and living in these countries is worse than living in America or EU liberal democracies) don't get me started on the meager wages they are being paid, a very strong oligarchy stronger than even some liberal democracies (which again by socialist standards you shouldn't have an oligarchy at all and atleast pay livable wages , heck even some liberal democracies pay somewhat livable wages, shouldn't we go beyond that and actually redistribute wealth, instead of pretending everything is fine and that "actually existing socialism" isn't worse in every metric compared to social democratic liberal democracies and in some cases even centre-right lead liberal democracies.

@@Redactedlllllllllllll I was doing a comparison there, in absolute terms both "actually existing socialism" and liberal democracies and fascist countries all suck , but the devil lies in the details, in comparison , life under liberal democracies is superior to "actually existing socialist countries" and fascist countries, if we compare fascist countries to "actually existing socialist countries " we don't see many inherent differences thus I would say its rational to call totalitarian regimes such as north Korea, Cuba, vietnam, soviet union, Laos, historical "communist" and contemporary China, etc etc as fascist.

It appears that suggestions of an end to Capitalism, seem to be Verbotten? The ability to view nations that now complain of a growing inability to satisfy economic demands, appears to display most of the inhabitants of the Planet, as not being served by Capital?
