@leinis8024 күн бұрын
This is such a weird take by hatertime, and such a weird comment by the owner. "Montgomery was always going to opt in. The owner was hoping to offend him so much he would leave for not being wanted". As you so correctly stated, "Montgomery was always going to opt in..." I am sure that someone would have offered Monty a 1-year-prove-it kind of deal, perhaps with additional option years. BUT I cannot see that deal being bigger than the opt in deal (22.5 mil) for Monty. Not even close. Hence I also believe that opt in = true. So about: "...The owner was hoping to offend him so much he would leave for not being wanted". What hope is there if Monty was going to opt in? Also, how much feeling less wanted is needed to leave millions upon millions on the table? I cannot see it. Furthermore, how the owner (who certainly knows a thing or two about not leaving millions on the table) would see it - is beyond me. Even furthermore, wouldn't opting in be the ultimate revenge for being offended? That is a true win-win for Monty. Getting paid more (than the market would have paid), and making the offender pay it. The only reasonable scenario where I see the owner saying this about a current player is: 1) he is certain that the player will not re-sign after the opt-in year, and 2) He wants the player to be angry, and wants the player to prove him (the owner) wrong. So essentially the owner knows he is going to have to pay to Monty, but wants to get the most bang for the (way too big) buck. But, even in this scenario: why say anything? Monty is already more than motivated to do his uttermost - as this will be his prove it year.
@scottroberts746326 күн бұрын
Snell has had recent history of nagging lower body injuries that would make me worry for any deal over 5 years but I suppose the need for starting pitching is in such demand that he will probably land a big deal for more years.
