If you noticed, this exact same play happened on the 2nd out of the 1st inning. Rizzo took the ball and ran on to 1st base. In the 5th inning, the ball was hit the same way..except..it bounced on the line and scooted a little further off of 1st base. This would be a tougher play to get it and beat Mookie to the bag so he assumed Cole would be there on 1st. Cole thought Rizzo would get the ball like before in the 1st inning thus Cole did not take the angle toward 1st base that he needed to and went toward the dugout. Mookie safe. No matter what, you can't assume and Cole should've at least made an effort toward 1st then run off if not needed. This was Cole's ultimate responsibility but Rizzo is used to tossing it to 1st base on this type of plat because it requires minimal effort.

Thanks, Dodger scouting report was right on, The Dodgers thought that running the bases with purpose and aggression would pressure the Yankees into making mistakes, and if you look back at Judge making error, it was E Hernandez going half way to second that made him take his eye off the ball.. There was no need for Hernández to go half way on a ball that was obviously going to be caught unless he wanted Judge to make an fundamental errant throw to first base,, no one ever thought he would take his eye off the ball..
