Its like pruning a plant. As long as the soil is good and healthy where the plant can thrive then what you prune doesn't matter. Your head is the soil and as long as its good and healthy your hair with continue to thrive. Great video Yannie. Peace and blessing to you and your beautiful client.

Love this! Thank you. I’ve been locd since 2011, and have semi Freeform. In the early stages and a phase in the middle of my journey, I didn’t wash, dry and moisturize my hair in a healthy and consistent way. I occasionally have ends break off, but the scalp and upper parts of my locs are strong and healthy. I always saw it as a plant naturally shedding dead leaves (ends). Your video helped put me at ease though, bc I’ve been wanting a professional to speak on it without the obsession with preserving length.

I’m glad I saw this video. I have Sisterlocks. My locs are only 4 years old. So they are nowhere near that long. However, one year before starting my locs, I escaped an abusive marriage, I survived a mysterious illness that made me lose about 40LBS in a week or two, I survived a stressful custody battle, I went through therapy with my child, and so much more. Before finding this video, I popped off all my knots. I’m glad I did the right thing!!

Thanks Ms. Yanni, your tips are great not just for locks but natural hair in general. Keep it simple stop doing too much, be gentle on your hair, drink water, oil your scalp, don’t over wash, eat well if yo have vitamin deficiencies-fix that, and you can grow your hair as long as you want.

I'm also wondering why locs change color? My husband and son both have reddish, almost sandy light brown color to the tips of their locs and neither have ever had their locs dyed. It is beautiful, to me, but I'm just curious if there's a specific reason or if it just naturally occurs?

I can testify to this. I wasn't aware the dangers of dye, and bleaching as we would call it, and half the length of my Locs was popping in a lot of places. My locs was at my buttocks 😥 it was my personal decision to make a big chop. It will grow back because I hve healthy hair and I DO NOT DO much to it.

you are amazing i wish i would have been a little more patient because this has happened to me twice the first time i just cut them off cause i did panic and the next time which was just a week ago i just cut them once i counted 10 or more my roots have been thinning for years even before my locs i'm 50 i even stopped twisting for months and months still thinning. But right now i just decided to get scalp and hair treatment and get my hair back healthy.

Maybe it could be the menopause or something else us women go through! There’s sooo much. Don’t cut them, do what Yannie says, take her advice, oil the scalp and not the hair, half n half vitamin e oil & rosewater (really loved hearing her say this) you will start seeing a difference. Good luck 🤞🏾 🙏🏾

Ok, so this can happen, from tension? My husband and 6 year old both have tips pop off. It drives my husband crazy. They both fail to consistently keep a loc sock on, throughout the night. I've been telling my husband it's tension from the locs being pulled/tugged while he is tossing and turning in his sleep, with nothing protecting his locs. Is this correct? It's the best explanation I could think to give him.

This video just confirmed my thoughts of why my locs have been thinning at the ends and breaking off easy.. I have dyed them multiple times and not taking care of them as well as I used to… I keep telling myself it’s just the ends lol and I break them off lol eventually they will all break off and I can go on about my life with healthy black hair lol once all this color breaks off… but I am going to start taking better care of my locs. I got lazy over the years. I will be 5 years locked in jan.

What about children? My 6-year-old daughters hair is doing this, and her locs are only 1.5 years in started with 2 strand twists. No one else in the household has this issue. I've been following you for years, so most of my practices I get from you have worked well for the rest of us. We don't retwist often, use oli and water and rose water
