Hello everyone! I have a lot of work ahead of me to do-- any tips you experienced gardeners have I would most appreciate! I'll be putzing about the garden again this weekend. :)

You could till and put down bark mulch which keeps the weeds at bay a bit!

Where the old vegetable beds are I would go to home Depot and see if they have a 70% off discard/seconds pile of wood and then replace the "Borders" and then if you aren't gonna plant this year, put a dark plastic over the bed to kill any and all weeds and seeds.....then next spring layer cardboard in there doing the lasagna method and add garden soil and plant away.

For the weeds, remove all bed structures and use the lawnmower to mow them down. Then apply weed and feed as many times as it takes if you want grass there. If it is an area where you want flower beds use an epsom salt based weed killer as many times as it takes. You can find recipes for that weed killer online. Then plant and use weed fabric or mulch etc.

You have a beautiful backyard! Some very lovely bushes. If your birdbath has cracks in it, you could use it to plant flowers. If you want to fix it, get some dry cement you mix with water and try fixing the cracks with several thin coats of the cement. It took me years to get my back & side yards looking the way I wanted. So glad you are back!! 💐🌹🥀🌺🌷🌸💮

This is what I do with my garden. I spread cardboards at the bottom and just add some garden soil on top of them then plant. When I have a lot of time, I cultivate the soil, add in a garden soil then plant. It is a lot of work, but when you love what you are doing, time just flies by quickly.

Ivy plants seed in the fall. Do your best to kill them off before the fall. I spent an entire summer killing off ivy in the yard. It really helped the following spring I only had a few pop up. It is tedious but worth it. Love your channel💗

I have the same bushes. They are called snowball bushes then are they are done flowering they stay a beautiful green. I love mine when they flower all those snowballs

I haven't been taking care of my garden to be honest, I've done lawns but that's it, I haven't been well and have been grieving the loss of my dog. Anyway last week I felt a bit better so went to my front garden to tackle weeds 9 buckets full and a bad back later I chose to stop.i don't think I even made a dent in the garden weeds but 8t looks a little better. The weather hasn't been very good otherwise I would have gone back out. Xx

That big bush with white flower "balls", I have several, Snowball bushes and man are they hard to get rid of. I've been meaning to ask, how is/what are the differences between Washington state where you lived and Idaho where you now live? Like cost of living, groceries, gas, schools, economics, demographics etc.....

I think the biggest difference is we lived in a smaller population before. Here there are a lot more people and I've had to learn to drive in traffic. 😅 The cost of living has increased greatly where we lived before-- but even more here. We were very blessed to find something we could afford. Climate wise, the winter was colder than we're used to. I've never seen snow in May before either! 😉😊

Don't worry Rachel, all the overgrown flora will take time, as well as preparing garden/ flower beds. Dont overdo it and hurt yourself. Digging, hoeing, raking uses different muscles you haven't used all winter, so ez does it!❤

If you line the beds with black liner and double the liner then put the weed killer on under the liner then put your soil on the liner it will grow anything. So if you feel you need to make it them higher lowes and other companies give out pallets and you can use those. Every item looks lovely and strategically placed

I love what you're doing with your home decor'. Do the snowball flowers have ants in them? I have beautiful peonies, but it is impossible to bring them in without bringing the ants that love their sweet nectar. Any ideas on how to eliminate bugs before bringing flowers in? I may have to get a snowball bush for my yard!!! Beautiful!

I feel your pain! I was left with a couple varieties of ivy including poison ivy, morning glory, and Lily of the valley as well as invasive olive trees. Lots of rocks and boulders here too. Lots of removing and rearranging going on and it takes way longer to get done than what I’d like

Rachel, I related so much with this video. Moved from CA to TX this last year and the previous owners left tons of Terra Cotta pots and different planters, bird feeders, and a bird bath...have been having fun making the back yard our own! I've also been pleasantly surprised by what I thought was a dead bush, which has since flowered with what looks like some type of pink hibiscus. An idea for the second bird bath you found would be to fill it up with succulents, that would look pretty!
