Mine starts with starting fluid. Then it runs fine. Will NOT start unless I ETHER it. Just bought it used yesterday. Started with one pull. Got it home. Tryed starting it. Notice I said “ tried”. Wouldn’t start. Thought I may have flooded it. Nope still would not start!! Sprayed it. It started and ran. But without the filter on. Started it sounds good. But having to spray it before I start it will be crazy. The guy offered to give me another one just like it. Hopefully it doesn’t have the same problem. Grrr. I even listened to what the guy told me about the gas. He said use NON Ethanol gas. It shouldn’t have to be primed with ether every time i use it. Lol

Oil drain must be at the bottom of the machine, where the blades are! My grandma's old 51cm MTD has it.

I have a 2014 MTD 300e. The cheapest one at Home Depot. It is left outside all year around. This Spring is the first year it didn't start due to the carb jet assy. Easy fix and will probably go another several years before it happens again. Just be sure and not use low octane fuel at the pump. Actually the rubber o-ring on the carb will go out and suck in air before the carb will actually fail completely.

Just fixed my very similar low-end Bolens mower with a Briggs and Stratton. Almost the same setup. Everything worked right down to the little pop when I pushed a guitar string through the carburetor jet, with a little blob of orange goo coming out. (Only difference is it wasn’t the top hole where I got the pop, it was the center tube.) I wasn’t even really that organized about it, and it took me about an hour. Just mowed my lawn. Only thing different is I didn’t take the float out. (Didn’t see a need to.) And I didn’t pull out the oil because it’s not that old and I haven’t used the mower that much, just let it sit too long with gas in it. Thanks for the video.

My neighbor just went through this same issue. I told her not to leave gas with enthonal in it over the winter. Run it dry or use non enthonal gas to keep this from happening.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! My Craftsman self-propelled walk-behind mower crapped out in the middle of doing the yard. No warning, just died. Mower was barely a year old and the 2 year "warranty" would not cover what they said was a carburetor issue (normal "wear and tear" they said was not covered. On a less than 1 year old machine?!?!?!). Shop wanted minimum of $150 to fix (called multiple places and they all said the same). Long story even longer, I watched your video and thought "Hmmm, even I could try that. Got nothing to lose". About 1 hour later I am up and running and my mower is slicing through my (9 inch long and overgrown) lawn like a BEAST! I can't thank you enough for creating a THOROUGH and SIMPLE video for a mechanical moron like myself. I owe you several beers if our paths ever cross. Thank you again, you are a lifesaver! ~Adam~

So at 12:14 I see two nipples on the side of the carb. A black one for the fuel hose and above it is a white nipple. Nothing goes on the white nipple? Because you do say at 12:23 "Go ahead. Connect all the hoses back on the carburetor. You got your Air line, you got your Fuel line." I imagine the Air line is the large diameter crankcase vent tube. But nothing goes on the tiny white nipple?

Got this exact mower for free from my wife's co-worker but the dang thing isn't running. Did everything step by step (minus the oil part) but still nothing - it'll run when starter fluid is sprayed directly into the carburetor but dies right away

Def might need a new carburetor then if this method doesn’t work… or the engine could be stuck piston could be stuck this is just the first thing you should try before the major stuff. Good luck my dude I hope you get it figured out! 😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥

​@@YardBrah Update: was about to put it into the trunk on my car to work on it at my shop and tried to start it just for the heck of it - on the 3rd attempt it fired up and sounded awesome - I think what happened was I printed it too much and there was too much fuel in the bowl of the carburetor

Check spark plug… check if needle valve is in place, check air filter spray some starter fluid where the air filter hole is just diagnose and retrace your steps annoying but one time I took apart a mower 5 times cause I missed one jet it was still clogged 😊🤙🏾🙏🏾🔥

It’s probably stuck on there rust maybe spray some wd40 on the clamp then twist it around the hose… use thicker pliers to pinch the clamp 😊🤙🏾🙌🏾🙏🏾

Loved your video. Where can I get parts like gaskets, etc. to fix my lawnmower. Also is fixing a weed wacker just as easy? My weed wacker is a Craftsman also and uses gasoline mixed with some oil. Doesn’t work now and it think it’s clogged. I’m afraid of attempting to fix it.

GREAT video! My wife's mower suffers from the same malady. Hopefully, I have cleaned that carb for the last time. I would advise all viewers to save yourselves ongoing misery by buying non-ethanol fuel. Yeah, I know, it's a bit pricey. I'll happily pay the extra to not have to tear down the crappily designed carb several times each mowing season...At the end of the mowing season, run those fuel tanks DRY! Based on the fact you have a 60cc syringe and what appears to be a specimen cup, I'm going to venture a guess that you work in the medical field?.. nonetheless, great vid! Thank you

I really hate cleaning Briggs & Stratton carburetors on the newer models you have to take everything apart. Rather than simply unscrewing the bowl from the bottom. I usually use the wire rapper that comes on light bread. Burn the plastic off leaving just enough at the end to handle the wire. I also have pipe cleaners that you use to clean a settling torch with those are also good when you have to enlarge a jet because of motor is surging good video

@@YardBrah the engine you are working on is the newest Style Briggs & Stratton. Real pain in the butt having to remove so much stuff to clean the Jets in carburetor. The older Briggs engines you only had to remove the bowl without removing the entire carburetor. But still it was a great video
