Several times he even pronounces the first syllable properly, indicating his Japanese is actually good enough that he's having to 'catch' himself from pronouncing it correctly. @@DeathnoteBB Tbf, the monologues aren't really saying so much you cant imagine someone whos highly on the ball being unable to think over in a moment. Like to take the above example. @@fearedjames Well yeah but it’s what happens in anime, the show stops for a while for internal monologues. In real life it probably doesn’t take long hence why there’s not any in Columbo. This is epic and I love it. Also... Ryuk wouldn't sell Light out JUST for a bag of apples, but he'd definitely sell Light out for the opportunity to see Columbo beat Light at his own game in minutes. And what this really points out is how much more efficiently someone could have caught Kira if they were just a little more careful, and DIDN'T try to beat Light in a game, instead going for proof as efficiently as possible.

I like to think there's also credit to the work L put in. The fact that the police knew of the existance of the Death note at this point hugely helped Columbo get past what initially made Kira so deadly, the fact that he can magically kill you in a way a normal person couldn't prepare for. This video either would have either been a lot longer, or a lot less logical if Columbo had to start from the very beginning. It's nice, this video is very respectful of the Death note property whilst still parodying it, the video isn't tryna start a debate of if Columbo is a better detective than L, it's simply Columbo appropiately using the resources already available to him to solve the case as quickly as

There are no supernatural elements like in this fan scenario, but the episodes tend to feature a piece of technology that would have been hot and new at the time (whatever time it happened to be; the show spanned several decades) and Columbo has to figure out how it works to solve the case, like with the Death Note in the Kira case
@Smileface2144Ай бұрын
I love it when columbo says pronunces "Yagami" to "Yagahme"- I love how Columbo's hair turns kind of like a shade of turqoise just like the show with L, and I LOVE that Light just writes down "Lieutenant Columbo" because he hates losing so much, and he was in such a hurry that he forgot to even think about writing the right name. SUCH a well done video!!! Also, I LOVE that delivery at 10:34!

And it's also because nobody knows Columbo's first name. It's never revealed in the show, so Light just straight up didn't know it, he lost before it even began.
@bane220115 күн бұрын
@@alexknj1 tbf, Columbo's name must recorded in some database, so Light could get it at home. But that's _easily_ countered by Columbo: he has tons of prep time, the element of surprise, and can choose the perfect time to catch Light off guard. The Death Note can't help Light until he's home, so Columbo's plan would be to catch Light in one fell swoop.
@alexknj115 күн бұрын
@@bane2201 He'd have to be able to hack the LAPD Database from Japan. I don't know too much about Light's hacking ability, but doesn't he just have his dad's password? Colombo existed before social media, and even if we're bringing him into the modern day, he's definitely the type who "wouldn't be able to figure out all that Facebook nonsense."
@djhakase12 күн бұрын
@@alexknj1 Although Columbo's first name is categorically never spoken, he has flashed his ID badge a couple of times and the written name has been consistent across those appearances. Columbo knew that he had effectively no anonymity (in addition, passport? Interpol register?) so he had to move quickly to make Light confess and remove the Note before Light got to any technology to bust Colombo.

I love this so much. One of my pet peeves about Death Note is that I never really liked exactly Light got his comeuppance. I always wanted him to straight up lose a battle of wits because of his arrogance, and the fact that he lost because of miscommunication never really sat right with me. It only proved him right in a way, that he was perfect and the only mistake he made was trusting another. And this hits the exact right spot for me. So great job. The only thing I could criticize is that I'm fairly sure Columbo wouldn't see Ryuk because it isn't his death note anymore. But fuck the rules, Columbo wins.
@lakshaykochhar6799Ай бұрын
eh... Buddy, did you forget that everyone in Task Force was able to see Shingami, once they touched the Death Note; did you forget that L able to see Rem, once he had touched the notebook.
@lerdrax1694Ай бұрын
@@lakshaykochhar6799 Nope I didn't forget. But it seems you forgot the rules. The only people who can see a certain Shinigami are people who have touched the notebook belonging to that one. For example when Light met Misa, he only saw Rem after Misa presented her notebook . Or at least that's how it is in the manga, didn't really have enough energy to check the Anime.
@JackVoltАй бұрын
Light loses almost every battle of wits he has with L, Lind Taylor being only the most obvious example. He also makes a bunch of other mistakes, for example killing the FBI agents does not benefit him at all, and only puts more suspicion on him. He escapes getting caught multiple times because of A) pure blind luck, and B) everyone else involved in the investigation refuses to believe that Light could be Kira despite the mountain of evidence. I highly recommend checking out the 2006 Death Note movies if you haven't. They give a more satisfying conclusion than the manga/anime.

There's a whole bunch of characters on the "could catch Kira AND conceptualize the Death Note" chart that I would love to see other creators take a crack at turning into a short animated skit like this. Just imagining Harry DuBois from Disco Elysium tripping over his own feet confirming that the Deathnote is, in fact an note book and not a unique musical tone type of note, while Drama, Espirit D'Corps, Half-Light and probably and handful of others are screaming at him internally that Light is not on the level.
