I got three kids going to very expensive prestigious private universities now, and three that have already graduated. No 1. If your kids get straight As someone is going to give them a scholarship or grant point blank. So much money gets left on the table you wouldn’t believe it. Even growing up with non Muslim parents, I went to a state school and my parents paid out of pocket. Or you can go to community college and transfer later. I’m sorry but many bros and sisters just grab loans for no reason. I’m happy to help anyone with this issue. Great lecture though!

Why didn’t you quote opinions of classical scholars, position of four madhabs, ibn taymyya etc which you normally do while answering other issues. It would be helpful to know how scholars from United States arranged for funds to purchase car and home ? How did they avail for education ? How they sponsor education for their children ? Do they take health insurance ? Do they take life insurance ? Do they invest in 401k ? What about stocks ? It's plain and simple to label everything as haram but we need to know preferred way to do things. It's a shame that despite Muslims in usa since 50+ years still trying to resolve basic questions either we are to lazy or have no clue how to deal with daily finances. Muslims take false pride in contributing to science and civilization several centuries ago but 2nd largest religion have no clue about economic and finances.

The main issue with the opinions which are lax concerning student loans is what exactly validates the level of 'necessity'? It's not a life-and-death situation so where does this assumption come from that the 'need' is valid in this case? On that basis alone, opinion 1 holds the most merit. The argument that it's not Riba in countries like the UK is also flawed since there's no ikhtilaf on Riba which falls under a Qardh (loan), while there is in Buyu' (buying & selling).

1 marriage becomes almost impossible without a degree. Most Muslims especially in North America are super successful upper middle class. Do you think that are going to marry a warehouse worker? and Marriage within the muslim community Costs around $20k. So temptation of Zina becomes easier since marriage is unaccessible to these people. 2 the risk of living without savings or a house due to the high costs of rent you need a second income to live. Basically life would become very difficult without a degree
@munibcodm
@munibcodm Жыл бұрын
@@wheelfan100 Not at all, that's a subjective statement. I've seen plenty of marriages without one holding a degree. A warehouse worker is just one field, there are plenty of others one can do without having to indulge in Riba (freelancing, apprenticeships etc) , nor is arguing for a higher standard of living is not a valid argument here. Many muslims in the UK aren't 'successful upper middle class' citizens, nor should that even have a bearing on the arguments made for or against. Marriage within the muslim community costs around £20K? It's not necessary to spend so much on a lavish wedding, one should spend according to his means and plenty of people have a simple nikkah - especially in the UK at least. I'm not sure if you're aware of the pros and cons to both renting and mortgages from a dunyawi perspective, but owning a house can have its own challenges and financial hurdles with being responsible for repairs etc. I can't speak for those in the US, but it's very possible to live on rent in the UK in such cases. I know a man who provides for 9 people (financing two houses) and he has no degree, worked his way up the corporate ladder, making a little above minimum wage. Are they living with lavish things? Not exactly, but my point is it's feasible to live off such.

As salam alikum sheikh, I have question. Suppose a person can enroll in a Master's program costing him around 30K and at the end of the program he/she can presumably get a decent paying job. The person with his family support can afford this 30K cost. But if he has to go in a medical college it cost him way more than this. In this scenario he/she is allowed to take a student loan for medical college.

Marriage is unreachable to the person without a high enough income the risk of falling into Zina is almost guaranteed or very high. Second the minimum wage for to afford rent is $25hr (2022) well above any minimum wage in this year. There is a danger that you will be thrown on the streets especially in high rent areas. Life becomes extremely burdensome without a college degree or trade. If you cannot afford hajj you don't have to do it alhamdulillah.

Asalaamu alaikum, I regret to inform some time before I took Shahada I subscribed to a loan for a course at a local college here, I would not have if I was a Muslim at the time. Knowing Riba is forbidden I try to exclude myself from it, but everything I own was generated with the prospect of Riba attached. Every electronic was manufactured by loans with interest attached, my watch, my clothes, my food. Everything! Can we ignore this is a troubling time indeed for men? Truly Allah SWT is the only one who can generate interest. Look at his Principal Amount, the Qur'an, generating MUCH interest globally in men! He alone is the commander of that, certainly, not that it is Riba but just a form of interest, I thought it would be creative to note!

Why are loans for houses Haram but loans for education ok? The same arguments can be made for home ownership. This seems completely arbitrary. The Muslim world is obsessed with education. There are other parts of the world that value land ownership. This fatwa seems to reflect the bias present culturally in the Muslim world towards an obsession with education and profession as a marker of social standing.

Wow I guess you can make anything halal if you try hard enough 🙄 We live in times when there are a million ways to make a decent living (especially in the west) without a college degree. So I think it's hard for anyone to argue it's a necessity. And if you really want a college degree why not work for a couple years and then enroll when you can afford? Or why not go to a state college or even a different country where education is free? I earned a degree in Bosnia for next to nothing. Instead of focusing so much on making riba halal why not tell people about ways to get education and avoid riba which is one of the biggest sins in Islam? And not just that, it also destroys peoples lives. What a disappointing lecture. So many young people or their parents will watch this and take it as a green light and not even try to protect themselves.
