Now that’s fascinating. I do what’s called acrylic poring and then let the paint finish on its own. Usually my surface isn’t totally level so the paint moves on its own. This kind of art is beautiful 🤩

I just started using my kit and when i printed there were two wide bars that did not take the ink using your paper. It only happened on the first 3 sheets. The rest turned out fine.. I can also suggest taking a picture before you print so you can create different sized prints with a printer and you dont lose the design if the paper acts up on you. Other than that the process is relaxing and so enjoyable to watch the patterns move across the water.

will this ink and process work on fabric? and can the fabric be washed? this would be great in a quilt!
@YasutomoArtOrigami17 күн бұрын
That would be beautiful! However I am not sure if the process would work on fabric. I think the fabric wouldn’t float like paper on the water surface. If you give it a try, please let us know how it turns out! 😊

I tried this as I found it so beautiful. I am using Yasutomo Sumi Ink, but it does not stay dark on the surface of the water. The prints I am able to pull are a very pale gray, not the striking contrast showing in the video. Any suggestions on what the issue is? I have tried a plastic water container as well as a glass one.
@YasutomoArtOrigami17 күн бұрын
I have had pale gray prints on occasion and I find that tap water with a lot of minerals in the bath and the “clear ink” can affect the quality of the print. I have found adding a tiny drop of dishwashing liquid in the clear ink and the sumi ink helps to float and push the inks for sharper lines and a deeper black. I like using Kodak Photo Flo as a dispersant as well. Try using distilled water in the white tray as well. Hope this helps! 😊

Thankyou so much for sharing this art with everyone. I would like to know about the depth of water in the tray( 1 or 2 inches?) Also, can we use India Ink ?
@YasutomoArtOrigami17 күн бұрын
I like having the water bath at around two inches but it will probably be fine at a bit less. We always use sumi ink for our suminagashi prints, but have heard that India ink will work as well! 😊

Is it possible to use other paper?
@chrishughes62able11 күн бұрын
I think it is but Washi paper, as well as being very beautiful, is very tough. Hosho paper is even tougher and is very absorbent, making it the perfect paper for Suminagashi. Good luck! 🪷🏯🎎🍙🍶

We don't sell the tray by itself, but you can do this process in just about any dish. The tray we used here measures about 9" x 6.5" x 2" - hope this helps!

Hello, what is SUMI ink?
@YasutomoArtOrigami17 күн бұрын
Sumi ink is a traditional black ink used in East Asian art 😊 The original form is a black, rectangular, dry stick of ink made of soot and animal glue; by grinding it on a Suzuri stone with water, you can create liquid ink. Here we are using a liquid black sumi ink that is sold in liquid form, in a bottle. Many people like pre-mixed liquid sumi ink because it is so convenient to use. Hope this helps!
