Basically the idea is that since the city was Greek majority city before so it should not be inhabited by any other people.. people just can't buy lands and owns property..but thats not applied to tourists..they can come and ultimately leave so there is no danger that its status can be changed.. instead if tourist allowed to live in these fency houses as long as they want it is a cheap way of living at least for few days to people who could not afford to enjoy big houses back at home..esp they can celebrate honeymoon or birthdays there in memorable way

It's worse that that. When the Turkish Army invaded in 1974 they took the beachside hotels as barracks for the Turkish soldiers. Good idea. But, as they were owned by Greek Cypriots or mainland Greeks the soldiers promptly trashed them. They ended up living in tents. That sums up the intelligence level of the Turkish Army.
