so in the US there was one thing that the bottom expansion Port of the Super Nintendo it was called the exertaniment bike and it had a black box that the Super Nintendo would sit on top of connecting to the expansion port and on the front of this black box unit it had a port that looks like a phone jack but that also connected to a special controller Port that connected up to an exercise bike i know it sounds a bit convoluted

There is one other piece of info about the cart redesign/ power lock. The physical lock was later removed entirely from later SNES models and the SNES 2/ Jr. I believe the lock removal started with systems released after 1993. It was a cost saving measure as well as being redundant with the cartridge redesign. Also as a cost saving measusre, the rubber feet were removed from the rear on the bottom of the system. You'll notice this on the later Super Famicoms as well.
@lgndk11r7 жыл бұрын
The reason for the 2 different SNES cartridge designs is that the SNES Game Genie needed that little slot on the 1st design to lock. Nintendo didn't like that, so they came out with the wider, wedge-shaped front. I know, I had a Game Genie back then.

The change in the cartridge design was due to a patent dispute with Nintendo. I actually called their 1-800 service line about this when I got my first "new design" cartridge because i thought it was a boot-leg game. Furthermore, if you look at the patent design of the "Fairchild channel f" ( patent US4095791) , you will see that it has an almost identical lock in the back of the cartridge. Since Nintendo was riding high at the time, I can see where a company would find it lucrative to sue over patent infringement. There must have been something to it as Nintendo changed/deleted the design in North America.

When I was a kid, I actually called Nintendo and asked about the cart redesign. They told me two things: 1.) the indent was originally designed to keep people from turning the system on, and then inserting the game, which could possibly ruin (cause electrical problems) either the system or the game. 2.) They redesigned it because the repair center was repairing numerous systems from kids pulling the games out while the system was turned on, therefore breaking the "power lock".

the cartridge lock was scrapped in later games because some people ignored the eject button and just ripped the carts out of the system, causing the eject button to eventually break. without the lock on the games this kept more systems out of the service centers.
@mewimi2 жыл бұрын
I have a theory of that locking mechanism being bypassed due to children breaking their Super Nintendo by smashing the eject button. Which is the most likely reason I can think of. Edit: Oh yeah, I've seen a number of SNESes with broken eject buttons, most likely from kids smashing the eject while a game was on, either out of frustration or malice lol.

I think you're right that the ac adapter and rf/av cable were not included. The manual clearly shows that the cables of the original Famicom work perfectly with Super Famicom so Nintendo never even made unique ac adapter or rf cable of SFC. You just used the ones you had (if you happened to own FC) or just bought them separately. It's still kinda weird that the new hot console that people were rushing to buy didn't come with all the necessary cables. I wonder how many went home with their brand new SFC and then realized that they can't play it :D

The us design of the SNES failed in trying to stop drinks being spilled because I can fit a giant glass perfectly on the flat area behind the cartridge slot.
@YukoAsho10 жыл бұрын
Noot Yu Pretty much. Nintendo wanted to make it far more obvious that it wasn't supposed to do that. People probably thought that was an intentional thing with the NES because of the giant flat surface, simlar to the PS2/PS3/PS4, which I imagine many people did that with.

I had a pretty sweet configuration of the SNES that I received for the Christmas of 1995. It had only one controller, but it made up for that by having Super Mario All-stars and the Super Game Boy as pack in items. To make up for the single controller, my parents also bought a third party dual wireless controller set from a company called DOC that had the ABXY buttons the same color as the foreign versions. I like the design of the Super Famicom/European SNES, but having owned and grown attached to the US version, I think ours was fine. Nevertheless, interesting tidbit on why it was so drastically changed though. Personally I never had my systems in a place that I would need to put a drink or any thing on them. Even though I did sit on the floor and play for a lot of years as a kid, my drinks and such sat on end tables while the systems were on TV stands. I would also venture a guess as to the reason for the US SNES carts being changed halfway through was the kids were probably trying to rip out the game, with it on and breaking the latch that locked it in place. Super Mario World was later released with the new cart design, and I think Zelda was too.

Actually it is technically possible to play Super Famicom Games on the Super Nintendo. Inside both systems they're basically the same to each other but there's one thing that prevents Super Famicom Games from playing. Inside the Super Nintendo there's two clips that hooks to Super Nintendo Games that thing prevented Japanese Super Famicom Games from playing on the Super Nintendo here. It's really easy to get them off all you need to do is have pliers and disassemble the system and pull those two clips off and when you do you'll have to smooth it to nothing. And assemble it back and you'll be able to play Japanese Super Famicom Games on the Super Nintendo.
