I got a story: Remember when SF2 was coming for the SNES? remember those EGM magazine editions with all the coverage? I would go over them over and over. When the day finally came I would call the store like once every hour to confirm if the shipment had arrived (they weren't sure if they were getting it that day or the next). The store clerk got so fed up with me that he said he'd call me if I gave him my number, so I did. Hours went by and nothing. I was getting desperate. Finally he called "SF2 just arrived", I asked him if he could hold one for me since I lived far and he said he couldn't do it, that the manager said first come first serve. So I took the trolley and 3 buses until I got there. From leaving home to getting to the store 3 hours had gone by. I got there running, sweating, gasping for air and guess what? they were sold-out! So the guy there saw my dissapointment and said "is your number by any chance ###-####? "yes that's me, sorry for bugging you so much"... "np, here, I did save you one, just act cool" (the manager was there) I wanted to hug the guy and he could sense it!!! he just smirked but I kept my cool like he said lol! So people were coming into the store in droves asking if they had SF2. They were turning them back. I got the last one. So I paid and all the way back I couldn't stop admiring the box of my new SF2 game for the SNES. Of course I had to be careful, I got paranoid someone on the bus or trolley would snatch it from me. I got home, mom wanted me to have dinner, I said I had a new game and went stright to my room and it was magical... of course, I played SF2 all night long without sleeping. Next day all my friends were playing with me, with pizza, chips and softdrinks. Beautiful times.

What's funny to is kids these days think the (pathetic) console wars were hard core during last gen and into the current. Truth is, if the net back in 1991 was as it is today then it would have been far worse. Blood would flow in the streets, 95% of websites would be half SNES and half Genesis (yeah porn actually but I am having fun here) any video sites like KZbin would just be snes fan boys bashing sega and vice versa......it would be he'll on earth. Back then the console wars were real and meant something. You kids today with your online gaming and clans, and the hippity hop will never truly know what a REAL console war is
@TurdFerguson5248 жыл бұрын

blueboy 524 And most of the games were real funny and entertaining, today is just about fancy visuals, tons of cutscenes, tedious gameplay or just sandbox stuff, lazy remaking/rebooting/remaster/ruining classic games and paying extra money in order to complete the game (DLC's and microtransactions). Personally i consider the PS2 days as the last great ones for consoles -but of course never on the 16 bits era level. The next generation started the downhill, to me.

I always loved the SNES. i got one around 1993. super mario world, sim city, F-zero, mortal kombat 2, and super mario kart were my favorite games. never got another system after the SNES. and later on ended up selling my SNES and games. got a raspberry pi 2 last year and loaded it up with games. SNES will be my all time favorite!

One of the happiest days of my life was receiving a Super Nintendo for Christmas. Soon after, I had some of the launch titles in my possession, Super Mario Bros, F-Zero, Pilotwings, Sim City, Super Castlevania IV, and Super Ghouls n Ghosts. Geez seeing that cover art brings back good memories. Also....I remember riding my bike to the mall to buy Zelda A Link to the Past. I remember popping it in and upon exiting the house and seeing the rain and lightning and hearing the thunder, I was awestruck. I'll never forget that moment as a kid.

The same thing happened to mine I believe. I got mine in 1991, I think it was just the AC adapter that may have went bad, just wouldn't power on at all and this was before you could order one online and couldn't really find any in any store, you had to order it from Nintendo and my parents didn't feel like fooling with it so they threw it out and got another one in 1996. It is still working today no yellow coloring either.

We had a Genesis and SNES. In my opinion, Sega was superior when it came to sports games. For example, I far preferred the Genesis version of Madden and their golf games. But I thought the soft, cartoony graphics of Super Mario World were better than Sonic's more jagged appearance. Pilot Wings was a lot of fun and not something that the Genesis engine was capable of. I also liked the SNES audio better. Finally, SNES also made better RPG games. So I give SNES the overall edge.
@TobiAnimados7 жыл бұрын
Glad to hear something with the experience in both consoles. SNES my favorite console, I don't know, I juts like much more the overall experience of playing in SNES, compared to the Genesis. Even today playing games of both consoles in emulators, I just like much more the SNES. But Genesis has great games.
@kpag30307 жыл бұрын
Bort McBort I basically 100% agree with this assessment. I liked the Genesis football and golf games better, but most other things I liked better on SNES. The sound and video felt overall better in SNES. Mario world had such good sound
@MrSnapy17 жыл бұрын
The snes actually had a much slower cpu ...This is why sports games was always better because the sprites was sharper and smoother. Many Amiga ports like LHX and other just couldn't be ported to the snes due to the lower clock of cpu.
@reginaldeberhart85217 жыл бұрын
Bort McBort We had both systems as well, and when it came to sports, yes the genesis was better. But rpg' s on the snes were better. Action platforms, genesis was better, although the snes held it's on. Arcade ports, tie, both Mortal Kombat, and Street Fighter 2 preformed well on both systems, with the snes having the better sound. I have go with the Genesis, first off, way more games. And the fact that action platforms was the bulk of both systems games.
@thomastripp90026 жыл бұрын
I still own both systems and I would have to agree. However, IMO I did (and still do) like the SNES ports of NBA Live and NBA Jam better than the Genesis counterparts and I do like that the SNES had NBA Give N Go, NCAA Basketball and Ken Griffey, Jr. Presents MLB and the Genesis had NBA Action '94, Sports Talk Baseball and World Series Baseball. I do agree that Super Mario World's cartoony graphics were better than Sonic's and while Pilotwings was difficult (at least for me), it was still a lot of fun. Not too much of an RPG person, but I do agree with you about the SNES winning in that category. Sega Genesis had great audio as well...Maybe just as good as SNES, despite being whiney, yet catchy at the same time.

I think the North American SNES is ugly as hell. Fortunately here in Europe we got the original design. Which wasn't even mentioned in this video, but nothing new about that. Americans just like to ignore the existence of the old continent. This was great video no doubt of that, but it just resonates wrongly when referred to Super Nintendo and the design that North American version had, like there wasn't actual "Super Nintendo" that looked like "Super Famicom". Just my two cents.
@madfinntech8 жыл бұрын
Turrican4D No they don't. You know that our machines can be modded (usually very easy and cheap mod) to run games at 60Hz? On this continent this issue is well known and it's actually more uncommon to see console that hasn't been modded. Alone the fact that we didn't get any games released here back in the day warranted the region mods and obviously those mods enabled 60Hz output with RGB video signals, the thing you in North America didn't know flying fuck about. So in the end I think in the end we had and still mostly have it better. PAL consoles don't suck. Our machines in most cases now days are region free and our TVs do RGB, looked better (SNES) and was called as they should (Mega Drive). So fuck you.
@TheRyan47788 жыл бұрын
+ MadFinnTech I'm an American and I actually agree. I never liked the American design and it didn't help that I already knew what the Japanese version looked like. I remember the first time I saw the design unveiled in Nintendo Power and I was all like...WTF? The cartridges were as equally unpleasing to the eye, with their ugly rectangular design, and they got even uglier when Nintendo removed the bottom portion of shell on later releases. Not only did this make them look even worse, but they now could no longer lock into place when the system was turned on. (The indentment designed to do that was removed). I honesty don't know what Lance Barr was thinking.
