Great piece. I have fond memories of playing this under the composer’s direction some 30 odd years ago. I still remember the rest of the program: Scheherazade and Mendelssohn Piano Concerto #1.

Wow.... reading today about Mr. Gunther Schuller's life and his contributions, from New England Conservatory. Did you know Mr Schuller implemented the first degree-granting Jazz program in a purely Classical conservatory, in 1969 ? He formalizes NEC’s commitment to jazz in 1969 !
