I was dying of an eating disorder at the time when this song came out (2009) & I was obsessed with the YYY’s. My memory is of my parents driving me 4 hours south to go to inpatient treatment & we listened to this album on repeat on the way down. We all cried when this song would play. It was the first time I ever saw my Dad cry. It ultimately gave me strength to overcome anorexia because I didn’t want my family to hurt. Impactful song in my life, forever.

This band has quite some range: Dreamy, atmospheric numbers like this one; dancy songs like Cheated Hearts and Turn Into; dark-churning rock like Isis; straight ballads like Maps. And a frontwoman with electric stage presence! The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are definitely underrated...!

Makes me think of my Father. He passed away 9 yrs ago. He was a musician and a D.j. he was a true artist could play his instruments all by ear. When he died a piece of me died and I never thought I would come to leave with his early death you see he was my biggest supporter. My favorite teacher my mentor. I've always loved The Yeah yeah yeahs and he did too. When I saw this video and heard the song for the first time. I felt his soul near me. I understand the lyrics in my own way. To me The lyrics are him saying that he will always be with me everywhere I go. At the cemetery he is mearly bones, a Skeleton. He is up there always spinning the sky and Rocking the Heavens. Basically do not stand at my grave and cry. ( Love)

you know how sometimes you put on a random youtube mix late at night and start drifting off to sleep and a truly haunting song comes on and locks you in the limbo between wakefulness and dreams and the music takes you to some pretty dark but sublime places (in the greatness beyond all possibility of calculation, measurement, or imitation meaning of the word) in your mind and in the morning your alarm brutalizes you conscious and you see a gray sky and rain streaks on your window and feel a sense of I need to hear that song once more and you can't remember how it sounded but it still plays at the back of your mind and you kind of want to tear your hair out and set it on fire in the vain hope that the stinking sacrifice will somehow appease whatever memory demon that holds that tip of the tongue nonrecognition of the song hostage and it lets you remember and months go by suddenly one day youtube asks "hey wanna play this song again?" and you do and then you have to excuse yourself and go sob in the bathroom for a minute?

growing up, it was always me and my mom. she was 19 years old and taking care of me by herself. around 2010-2012 , me and my mom were heavily poor and we were being abused by my father. he wasnt around at ALL. it was always me and my mom. her still being a teen, she had to work multiple jobs and move to multiple different houses while still attending college. i remember her always playing this song.I always called it the "cracked egg" because that was the album photo, lol. just recently, i asked my mom "whats the name of the song with the cracked egg?" she knew exactly what i was talking about it & when i listened to the song, i cried because it brung me right back to when we were seriously struggling. i cry HARD. my mom faught so hard to give me the best childhood ever while being mentally and physically abused. I seriously think this song is one of the reasons why she kept on fighting. thank you.

My thoughts: stop comparing the different versions of this song. It's not about who "did the song better." The real irony is that people have forgotten how to sit back and just enjoy the music itself. Who cares who did it better? You like which version you like and that's fine. Stop wasting time writing on the song you don't like and try to be positive for once. There's too much war, negativity and sadness in the world. SPREAD POSITIVE WORDS AND THOUGHTS. Put the word human back in humanity and love each other.
