Personally, I’d never go back to a ‘plunger’ system since discovering the Drone optical controller which combined with your software, has given me the best electronic Hi-Hat experience to date. The only limitations I have found is within the AD2 VST Hi-Hat which doesn’t always track 100% when you get down to the fast closed notes in the CC information. This seems to be an issue with Addictive Drums and reported by other users on forums. I replaced my TD-20 with 2 of your units and almost wish I still had my clunky VH-10 just to prove how much more superior your system is at translating CC information!

Any links or pages u can share? I have the standard plunger system and I would be curious to see if optical allows for slightly better performance.. I'm happy with my performance however every once in a Blue Moon I get some weird transition artifact and I would like to eliminate those

@@JeffWizniak My conclusion is entirely based on going from a Roland VH-11 w/TD-20 triggering Addictive Drums 2, then replacing the VH-11 with a Drone optical controller, then replacing the TD-20 with 2 eDRUMin units. My electronic Hi-Hat experience triggering the VST dramatically improved once I switched to the optical controller and discovered I wasn’t losing any CC info to the VST via the TD-20. However, I dare say no one has any problems with a ‘plunger’ system once it’s sending its CC straight to the eDRUMin MIDI interface. In terms of noise, the optical controller is way, way quieter than the Roland controller and definitely a smoother experience because a beam of light is controlling the generation of the MIDI info without having to make contact with something physical. The guy who makes the Drone stuff is a genius (like Rob who makes these interfaces).

Now the eDRUMins support Hall sensors. It is also a method without having mechanical, sliding parts or whatever. Very nice and cheap.

@@eDrumsInANutshell that’s interesting - I didn’t even know what Hall Sensors are! I’ve looked them up now and they seem to be an alternative to a mechanical moving part based on magnet polarities, so I can see how they could be used in CC MIDI applications. Do any e-drum manufacturers use this type of sensor?

@@thedrumdoctor Yeah! I don't know if they are used in a commercial product. Maybe inside a plunger system. There are plungers using optical sensors, I saw these systems with a simple linear potentiometer... I use the Hall sensor at the bottom of the hihat stand right beneath this chain and sticked a neodymium magnet onto it. In a way, that I like the respond. Hihat cymbal I a 15" Lemon 3zone ride. Damn, I can play bell zone articulations now. On an $80 system. Sometimes it's annoying that the system is so sensitive that the hits let move pedal and so the used samples are changes... But basically that's an effort all these stand setups. Right now I just think...OK, I could just loose the hihat cymbal that it rests on the stand...and done!

Are trs stereo cables required for the hi hat and controller?
