Love hearing your thoughts, Becky! I am switching to Saxon 7/6 this year for my oldest. 😄

We really enjoy the spiral approach as well. My little one tends to forget concepts in a mastery approach. In all my years of homeschooling we have never used Saxon.

Got to stay with what works.

We're in California and wondering the same thing. Is there a whole grade level of disconnect from public school to homeschool and how do you resolve that? Our 10 year old 5th grader was public last year and did addition, subtraction, multiplying and needs a little more practice on division but don't think we need to spend a whole year on Saxon 6/5 for just that one piece. Is it common to work at your own pace and do you think it would be ok to move them up to Saxon 7/6? In your opinion of course!! :)

It is ok, to work at your own pace. I would recommend taking a Saxon placement test. You can just Google it and find one. That would be the first place to start. But in my opinion, I would recommend doing the Saxon 6/5. But see what the placement test results say.

Hod did the next couple years go? Did you stick with saxon and if so which pathway did you take?

They went well. We only did the even or odd numbers on the mixed practices. We used Saxon pre Algebra, but switched to Math You See for Algebra 1.

@@RussellsLovingLife thanks! Interesting what made you switch? Maybe you have a video. I plan on Saxon 7/6 this year (grade 6.)As long as we are on track for pre-algebra in 7th grade that's my goal

@@budubeebobop The only reason I switched was because a friend had the curriculum and I got to use it for free. 😊 I don't have a video on it.

If you do only even or odd, does it significantly reduce the time spent on math? We are not a math loving family and I don't want to inadvertently cause a bigger hatred of math. I did Algebra II Saxon, and I remember how much the amount of problems made me hate math even more as a student.

Yes, only doing evens or odds makes a big difference.
