But he agree with Hollywood to create and sell the public a FAKE image of who he really was. Director John Ford did PUSH him to get enlisted during the war but he never saw combat in an Australian base. Audrey Murphy, A REAL AMERICAN HERO !!!

A great man and a terrific role model for the males of this nation. There was a time when little boys looked up to Roy Rogers and the John Wayne characters. They wanted to be Policemen, Firemen, and play a good game of baseball. Who are the heroes today? I guess we're left with Raul Paul and Gangsta Rappers. How did we go so wrong?

I started out as boy with Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and moved on to John Wayne as I got older. John Wayne was the man during my growing up years. He was bigger than life and was what they call today a boys role model. At eighty-four, I still smile and say “ thanks for the memories “.

I’m an old guy, age 75 a few months back. My ďad, a cowboy at heart watched John Wayne movies, sometimes with my mom. He really was a fan of JW as long as I remember. I șaw some with him but usually found a way to avoid them. One of my brothers and his wife gave my dad a tape player of some kind that he could use to watch JW movies at home. If I recall correctly, dad watched 2-3 JW tapes at first but didn’t like watching them alone. Not sure where the big box 0’ John Wayne tapes ended up but I remember that he watched a few of them. Mom avoided them as well. When dad died age 99, I was never able to decide where his VCR and tapes ended up, but I hope he enjoyed them. 😅😅😊

He did not refuse fool. He was initially declared Status 3A for being a single parent. Then he was remarried and went to the recruiting station, where he was disqualified medically for his surfing injury, his stuntwork and his age. Wayne went to a civilian doctor to get a second opinion, and that doctor wrote a letter to the Draft Board to accept him for military service, and he was. However, because he was threatened to be sued if he did leave Hollywood, the military decided it would be helpful for Wayne to keep entertaining and keep America's morale up. So, understand he was given every status possible, 3A, 4F, 1A, and finally 2A.

Not a horse painting or cowboy hat hanging in his house, just bottled ships & nautical related decor when he didn't wear his wig he wore his captain's sea cap. He was a bit of a bigot & racist but nothing near as bad as most a-holes that in John Birch's right wing Orange County in those days.

An actor, is a lousy role model. It is all a make pretend life based on characters who are not them. Great movies and a great entertainer. A model in life? Look to people in your community.
