The track was inspired by a friend of Yebba’s who was in an unhealthy relationship. “As soon as she had a baby, her husband started beating her,” the singer-songwriter explains. “Because I’ve never been married and I’ve never had a kid, the best way I knew how to tell that story was to describe how I feel when I’m blindsided by a relationship, and the shock that comes with that. I walked into this space in my mind where I find the one I love in someone else’s bed, and my mind goes right to violence. It’s the kind of thing where you have so much comfortability with rage, you’re able to think through it logically-like: ‘If I shoot him in the stomach, I’m gonna have to pay his hospital bill, so fuck that. If I shoot him in the head, then I could be convicted of murder. So what am I supposed to do?’ It ends up being a picture of running with your rage, and just trusting that karma will come back around and take care of things for you.”

Tiny Desk concert for sure, which is on youtube, and is where she really finds her songwriting skill and her mature voice. A couple of other great performances, like everything else, are "Evergreen" and "Smoke". Love your reactions. THere will never be another "My Mind" but there is an entire catalog of greats building. It's a tough listen and she asked us all to listen top to bottom of the album once. 100% with you on My Mind being the benchmark. The problem is ‘the music industry.’ It’s all too much. Strip it back - that is Yebba’s Power. Too many players dilute the power, Yebba gets lost in the mix. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a Sanger! But, this is more Movie Soundtrack than the raw passion of the singer with her guitarist. Hey Stevie, I too saw this one vocal coach react to Yebba "My Mind" and has been the only reactor trying to spread shade on our girl Yebba's performance. That reactor is Tara Simon. She's an American Idol contestant reject, whom I think is just hating out of envy. She can't get the recognition and cannot reach the talent Yebba has so she just being salty in my opinion. Lots of other vocal coaches, men & women, praise 👏 Yebba and appreciate the full range, power, talent, and emotion this beautiful young woman performs at.
