Today we have a look back at one of the most influential brands to ever hit the streetwear scene. Before there was Yeezy, Kanye struggled for many years to leave his mark in the fashion industry and he was met with a lot of pushback. After 15 years, he finally managed to say he made it. But...

It’s a shame you used such a sensationalized tone in this video as it discredits both ye and the Yeezy team(s). A lot of research, development and artistic output of what Yeezy actually did is ignored in this video. I’m in no place to change your perspective as you’re entitled to your own opinion ( we’re dealing with clothes here at the end of the day )but I’d suggest more critically looking at Yeezy. The framing of commodity, the critical perspective on the function of our clothes, what is luxury, classism, etc . These are some of many things they’ve explored and established grounds on. I understand if you might not be stimulated by the work but that’s partly because we’re bombarded by an insanely fast system of changing aesthetics. Yeezy stood as an actually relevant slow fashion brand at one point, the first possibly. Their whole thing is primitive futurism. I could go on, I mean season 4 alone birthed skims (no discredit to them either, great innovation for their knits). The row is great. It shows a perfect example of Eurocentric design that we are used to and it’s something people can digest and appreciate. But Yeezy pushed the industry to think beyond. It was not palatable, there was real messaging behind all of the clothes and performance and yet culturally and financially they set an example of what’s possible. Every artistic endeavor is for one’s self. One way or the other. Seeing Yeezy as just a merch brand is an easy way to round out a video and deliver a very superficial perspective. But maybe take a second look to understand what’s going on or maybe deliver a more open tone to encourage people’s own interpretation of shows and media. I understand your focus is on pattern cutting and such. But I think design can only be as good as the intent behind it.

This entire video approaches the topic in bad faith imo. Completely disregards the trends, innovation, and Kanye’s own goals - often oversimplifying like with the fashion superstar team “only putting together T-shirts.” Those t-shirts were the start of their career and they were learning. Those guys learned the culture and have routinely all tapped into it to control trends and maintain the most successful brands in terms of connecting with the public. Yeezy set and maintained trends, created mainstream appeal for unconventional looks, and tapped into the masses rather than looking down upon them like most pretentious designers. Also, it’s crazy to consider his current brand a failure when, for the past decade, Kanye himself has been saying all that he wanted to do was make everything affordable and accessible through mass production and a $20 price tag. Haven’t watched any of your other videos but something tells me there wasn’t much research put into this one.

I wish you looked into Kanye's clothing from the 2019-2020 "Wyoming era". Its arguably his most well made and unique clothes with the many different vibrant and bold colors, shapes, and designs. A lot of the pieces are 1/1's and samples that were never meant for retail production, but it highlights a lot of creative freedom and just going wild with ideas he had at the time. I highly recommend looking into it.

@ well I would disagree fashion is about political expression expression of self and can be used as a form of art like to critique the collection when it quite literally was innovative for multiple different reasons from the cuts to the oversized and cropped fits to the color pallets and the materials everything was made from a wabi sabi principal of simplicity … Yeezy is a protest to whatever you think you’re fashion should be and look like
@hishamziard8473
@hishamziard8473 Ай бұрын
“If this collection was done by any other no name designer we wouldn’t be talking about it” obviously 😂… That’s why they hire big names for their creative directors. There’s fashion house like Plagiarist who put on an absolute masterclass on how to get it out the mud and do it from from the ground up, IfSixwasnine and kmrii which are arguably better than any mainstream fashion house but doesn’t get the same recognition. I feel like the type of people Kanye was going against was people like you who point analyse and point out every reason why Ye and his clothes are trash. I’m not a big fan of his pieces or brand but I think you kinda prove Ye’s point of view by discrediting him because he’s not traditionally in fashion and oversimplifying everything. I’m not saying Yeezy is good but it definitely proves his POV. On the flip side, if Raf Simons or Margiela made this collection, it would probably be critically acclaimed. P.S. I wanna say the he is to an extent. a friend said it best in which he is to the fashion industry as Isabella d'Este was during the Italian Renaissance. Employing underground to big name designers from different mediums to both build "yeezy" and cultivate those individuals who ideas were worth having their shown to the masses (e.g. Mowalola, Ding Yun Zhang, etc). The differences in collections, I believe, directly reflects 1)who's current state of mind and attitude within his creativity 2)the people surrounding him influencing such designs 3) money (kinda)

What a interesting take! is always interesting to see opinions in these topics, and so mhh "complex" characters The take with Yeezy is very biased too, as Kanye as a socialite and influencer, had a pop culture influence huge, so the opinions related to his influence and importance would be absolutely personal biased to each one opinion of their works and point of views. And of course is not the same point in the bran of what was years ago and now, when people and companies were looking to work with and was a person that was able to work as a director, and be able to call and attract designers of very specialized skills and with a creative vision, plus the companies that would be interested in lead the technology and innovation to push the ideas of that team to the point of generate and build a discussion about aesthetics and consumers, to what is now that is a merch store where things are not innovative and are more a merch store for $20 that only will sell to die hard fans and the quality, fabrics and patters are... questionable.

Kanye’s been the trendsetter of various things throughout art. The pastel colours and rough nature of his first Yeezy drop was genius and a breath of fresh air in fashion back then. The “WET” tank top alone went crazy this year, and it was also seen worn by many celebrities. Calling yourself a fashion designer holds no merit when you terribly judge a successful fashion designer for the most bias takes. Kanye switching from music to fashion was a big deal and a lot of higher ups doubted him. Look at the dog shit “fashion” Balenciaga puts out. There’s levels to this and Kanye’s been setting trends

I think when you made this video your looking at the brand in a sense of todays standard . We gotta look at the fashion industry as a whole at the time of yeezys first years. . The entire industry and general fashion trend at the time was maximalism and logos. . Ye stepped back and focused more on simplistic design and form of how the fabric drapes on your body. . Look at how ye dressed during 2015 and you can see thats how many people dress today with some adjustments to shoes and baggy jeans. . The $20 clothes are supeising high quality for the low price the box t’s keep that yeezy aesthetic with thick material and the sweatpants only downside is having such a thin drawsting on the waist. . I think at this point ye switched focus to giving accessibility to high quality clothing to regular people

I dont think its a coincidence how before the yzy x gap x balenciaga collab began the high fashion wave was just a small niche for these young people . It wasnt till after that collab that these young people started to take thier appearance more seriously and made it more mainstream to see the youngsters recognize stuff like rick margiela and so on and so forth . This is a great video, but you missed the spot so immensly lol. People always underestimate the influence of Kanye on culture and fashion. Kanye's clothes actually brought something new. The whole industry copied him.
