In addition to modern Orthodox churches in Yekaterinburg, there are a lot of old beautiful buildings in the Empire and Baroque style. In the style of Stalinist constructivism. Old buildings on Chapaev Street, March 8, Malysheva. There are beautiful buildings of wooden architecture. One building of wooden architecture belonged to the Tatar millionaire Agafurov. Another stone building belonged to his brother . A millionaire. After the revolution, they emigrated to Japan. The stone building now houses the representative office of the Republic of Tatarstan in the Ural region.

2:22 did you mean Peter the Great, actually? The city wasn't founded by him. He only gave order to establish industry in Ural, the city was founded by military engineers who proposed and provisioned construction of the factory around which the city had grown.

You get a picture in your mind of these past communist places and they're nothing like you envisage, there are beautiful, they have had millions spent on them nothing like here in the UK, in fact Huddersfield looks a right dump!

I know what you mean! Before visiting the edge of Siberia, I had assumed it was always cold and tundra-like. I think a lot of people would be surprised by how modern and normal large Russian cities are. And I know exactly what you mean about Huddersfield! I’m from just down the road in Brighouse!

Here was murdered the Tzar Family in the mill house of Nikolay Nikolayevitsh Ipatyev ( he later died in Prague in 1938 ) . Brezhnev has the house demolished by Yeltsin not to yield any clues .

4:44 POW didn't built the city hall. In fact it's the old 2 stories tall market yard reconstructed in the 20es in constructivist style, then redecorated in 30es in stalinamp style. The only thing that was added after the WW2 is the clocktower.

I'm in Ukraine a year and a half and never been to Russia. Wonder if it feels any different, here it's really the Soviet history people resent, otherwise culturally the two are really similar

Hey guy. A walking tour isn't complete without recorded human interaction. You need to speak to the people, in English, to simulate what we, the viewers may experience ourselves. I can learn the buildings' history when I get there. I need a modern impression of the people.
