Yellow Stove Flame

This video shows why a sonic humidifier can cause a yellow flame on nearby gas stove tops. If tap or spring water is used in a sonic humidifier, the water droplets generated have small amounts of minerals in them. When these droplets evaporate, invisible mineral particles are left in the air. When that air is enters a flame, it burns red-orange (calcium) to bright yellow (sodium). The small mineral particles are harmless but cause a dramatic change in your stove top flame.

This video saved me a bunch of money. I was running a cheap vaporizer for three days and all of a sudden my gas stove flames were orange. Vaporizer was in the bedroom, too. Called the gas company out, they checked a bunch of things, all looked good. The next day I found this video, unplugged the vaporizer, and opened the windows. In an hour the burners were back to blue. No repair person, no new stove, etc. Thanks!

You, my friend, are brilliant. Looking through YTube videos today and found your video. I paid a repairman $70.00, and he couldn't fix the orange flames on my stove and suggested I call the Gas Company because it was coming from the gas pipeline outside. Long story short, I cut off my humidifier, and shortly after, the orange flames become blue. Thank you for being your brothers and sisters' keeper. May God bless you and your family.

Thank you for posting. This is exactly what happen. We bought a humidifier a couple of weeks ago. Used filter-water until three days ago when I went to tapwater. After watching your video I opened up the windows used a couple of fans. The stove is now back to a nice blue flame. You save me a service call and my wife thinks I smarter than I look.

After researching I came across your video. We turned off the diffusers and aired out the kitchen. In a few hours we could notice that the flames were turning back blue. Thanks for posting this. My nearly 20 year old gas range had orange flames on every burner all at the same time. I do not have a humidifier BUT my daughter was making “crockpot chicken” with lots of salsa and onions. The crockpot was on the counter next to the stove and caused the same effect as the humidifier. After opening a few windows and airing out the kitchen no more problems .... nice blue flames.

Wow. We panicked when our hob started doing this. By coincidence on the same day we moved our dehumidifier into the kitchen area. After the gas company told us to get out a gas safe engineer I came across this video. I opened all the windows and within 15 minutes the colour was back to blue. Thank You!

What a relief to find this video. Noticed the flames on my 5 month old gas stove were orange while cooking dinner. Was just sick thinking there was something wrong with the stove. After watching this, it dawned on me we had just started the humidifier up yesterday. Turned it off last night and the flames on the stove are completely normal this morning.

So helpful - I was testing out my nebuliser for asthma when I noticed an orange flame on our hob. Was going to call out a gas engineer tomorrow and decided to search for any solutions just in case I could fix it myself. Just has a new gas range installed. It’s been fine for a week. I ran out of distilled water and started using my well water. It leaves the mineral dust around the house , this is the COVID19 era so what you find in the store is limited. I just never saw the link between the type of water and my gas range. Same here I am confused our Gas Range started yellow flame from past few weeks and today we got more then this youtube video helped as we started using Humidifier and we using Spring Water for it. But shortly had the yellow flame so called the gas supplier.. now they know what they didn't know for certain before coming here. Suspected my humidifier, but were not for sure. Thank you for this! I found it a bit too late, but soon enough that I didn’t waste more money on the problem. I initially paid about $120 to have a service company look at my orange flames. They couldn’t figure it out and suggested that I spend $300 on replacing the regulator. I got the feeling they were just guessing and didn’t know what the hell they were doing, so I did my own research. That’s when I came across this and realized my ultrasonic humidifiers were the problem. Within one day of shutting them down, I had a solid blue flame back!

In December 2020, your video helped me to find the issue. Two days back we started using a new cool mist humidifier with tap water and after few hours my wife complained the gas range flame is yellow. We cleaned burners nothing changed. Holy shit - I've been using a humidifier about ten feet away with tap water - and the flames are orange and HUGE. This may well be my problem as well! Just turned off the humidifier, gonna give it an hour or two and check it again. Thanks for sharing! Edit - UPDATE. I shut my humidifier off last night - just tested the burners and they are back to blue color and NORMAL. You sir are a life saver! ALMOST called the gas company

Thank you so much. I fixed my problem and I notified humidifier manufacturer. In addition humidifier has impact on air purifier: if it is on, the purifier PM2.5 reading becomes very high because of the evaporated minerals dusts from tape water.

This is happening to me right now, I was wondering what the issue was and I was afraid before finding this. OMG! I was freaking out. Just bought one of those personal space mist air conditioners. Had it running almost all day. Loved it! I cooked about four hours ago and everything looked fine. Just turned stove on and huge orange flame erupted. It’s July 4th and I was ready to call gas company. Also my furnace and water tank are near kitchen in a laundry area. The furnace pilot was huge and glowing orange. The whole pilot area of water tank was blazing bright. When I reread instruction manual, it said in very itty bitty instructions to use purified water. There were 12 precautions listed. None mentioned this. I bought on Amazon and long description NEVER mentioned MUST use purified water. Wow. I was about to give it great rating. The 5 star ratings must have all electric homes. Oh well.

Another thanks for making this video! I was getting ready to try to adjust the air on my cooktop when I found your video. Also, I noticed my central heat unit was getting very loud about 30 days after changing the filters. I took one of the filters outside and blew it out with my air compressor. It looked like it was full of flour with all the white powder coming out. Now I have to decide if running the humidifier is worth the cost of replacing the filters every couple of weeks.

Wow, thanks for posting. We've never had an issue with this until today when I noticed all 4 burners burning yellow. I was scratching my head making sure all burners were clean trying to figure out what it was. Sure enough, I just set up the humidifier yesterday and have it running on high for 24 hours. if you are using an essential oil diffuser you will have lots of different colors depending on what oil you are using. Gas space heaters also.

It's not a dehumidifier. It's a humidifier. That said, thanks for the video. Our stove started burning orange and, thinking about it, it started just about when we got one of those essential oil machines to make nice scents in the house.

Thank you for posting this video!! I was going to make popcorn and pow, big orange flames instead of the usual blue. I called my brother who used to work in HVAC, and had installed a few stoves as well. He said to call for service. I fretted, and worried so much that I turned off my furnace , just in case it was the gas line somehow. I called my furnace guy, he said it was probably just the stove and not to worry. I considered calling the gas company to have them check for leaks in the line, another suggestion I was given. I brought my carbon monoxide detector up from the basement and put it in the kitchen as a precaution .....a couple of hours of worry, I was still not dying of carbon monoxide poisoning, yet, so I sat back down to do some more research. I found your video! I'm not going to do anything further, until the morning when I can get a couple of gallons of distilled water for my new humidifier. If that doesn't work, I'll call in a service technician, and have someone check my gas line.

I have orange tipped flames on my gas range.. i have a humidifier i started using but all the way upstairs away from the kitchen. Strange that it might affect the stove from up there but ill stop using it and see what happens. Video is helpful.

So I was cooking and in the middle of cooking my stove flame from the burner I was using turned orangey I thought it was because some of the soup liquid spilled into the burner so i turned it off and switched it to the other burner and noticed all the other ones were also orangey so I panicked turned it off and couldn’t finish cooking because I thought it was carbon monoxide related. Could it be ? I opened my window and door for ventilation just in case but now I haven’t finished my cooking what do I do ?

Does a more visible orange flame have any disadvantage? Can it harm cooking pots? I notice that the flame changes color soon after I start boiling water, esp. with salt, but I didn't know what caused it. Also smoke in the room does it. It looks really cool.

The orange flame associated with minerals does not cause damage. A yellow flame due to lack of air (excess carbon) puts soot on your pots, an orange flame does not. I am glad you enjoyed the video and found it informative.
