I bought a phone (motorola one fusion plus) from Flipkart during the Big Billion days. Initially, the phone seemed fine, although there were some minor scratches. However, on the 11th day of receiving the phone, the screen cracked by itself. It didn't fall down neither did it hit any hard surface, the phone was just kept on the table and the crack appeared. The phone definitely had some manufacturing defect, but because there's external damage on the screen Motorola won't cover it in it's warranty policy and neither is Flipkart providing me any option to solve the problem. This shouldn't had happened.

Sure, if you insist enough phone will eventually break by purposefully dropping it, but... sometimes it will take just one accidental good drop to take apart your stuff. A protector is always recommended, though the best protection is to train yourself to be careful. In 11 years of owning smartphones, I've never ever broke a single display.
