In historical accounts of retroactively diagnosed Wendigo psychosis, it has been reported that humans became possessed by the wendigo spirit, after being in a situation of needing food and having no other choice besides cannibalism. Or maybe Walter is somehow working with the police and they are bluffing Jeff about finding the remains. I like the theory that Jeff offs himself over guilt and wants to protect Shawna. So if Jeff fell for the bluff and realizes it, that may be the catalyst to off himself and leave Shawna in the clear.

Note to anyone and everyone: sensory deprivation tanks existed LONG BEFORE Stranger Things. In fact, there was a quite famous 1978 sci-fi/horror novel called Altered States (and a quite excellent, still relevant, corresponding 1980 movie adaptation directed by lovable wacko auteur Ken Russell) based around their potential to induce transcendent experiences and the horrifying possibilities therein. (This movie was clearly one of the many dominant 80's "influences" on Stranger Things, even though the specific FX they used to portray their tank sequences were stolen from, excuse me, "in homage to" FX sequences from a completely different and more recent film, Jonathan Glazer's Under the Skin.) Basically, nothing in Stranger Things is "from" Stranger Things. If you see it there, you can rest assured that it was first seen somewhere else.

I personally feel that season 1 was pretty much perfect, but this season mostly felt like filler to me. I really don’t feel as a viewer that we have gotten any answers this season.
@478Johnnyboy
@478Johnnyboy Жыл бұрын
I agree. I don’t think this whole season is filler but this last episode was for sure a filler episode. Plot barely progressed and only 2 major things happened. I think S1 paced itself well and also we all gave it a pass because the show needed to establish itself and the mystery. This season is paced very poorly imo. I get writers need to delay revealing too much but having a filler episode on ep 7 out of 9 felt a little like a slap in the face. The time for stringing viewers along should have maybe ended in ep 6 and 7-9 should have some urgency. I don’t need them to reveal everything but filler in live action shows is annoying.

@@Sassssky 6 was filler as well but gave us emotional moments with young Shauna and finally answered what happened to her baby. I get we as the viewers need to see the birth but like you said half of it wasn’t real. Great character building but no plot movement really in ep 6 outside of the interrogation with the cops which has now been dragged out of them suspecting Shauna the whole season and the women all meeting at Lotties place. Outside of that nothing really happened. So basically 2 episodes back to back of filler because i can’t remember ep 5. Only for them to now in the last 2 episodes to likely go all out crazy and then the season is over. Poor pacing imo.

I think that antler queen is none if the girls, but is the spirit of the forest. There was a statement in the opening of the first episode of season 2, I think it was Natalie speaking, she said something along the lines of ‘the wilderness was waiting for us to come along and befriend it’. The antler queen is a physical representation of the spirt of the woods. I think this is all leading to a shared delusion that the antler queen will come and show them how to survive and what to do; randomly hiding traps throughout the woods to capture food, just like pit girl in episode one. When we see shadows of antlers above Lottie, Ben, etc. I think it more so represents the wilderness gaining control and leading them to the ultimate goal of befriending the wilderness. Lotties delusion at the end of this episode indicated to me that she, Lottie, is not the antler queen. Why would she hallucinate herself like that? I do think Lottie has a stronger connection to the antler queen/the wilderness than anyone else, but it still wouldn’t make sense for her to hallucinate talking to herself like that.

I still think there's a chance that Javi died out in the wilderness and he was somehow brought back. Earlier in the season Travis saw his dead body but when he got to him it end up being a fox's corpse. So if Crystal shows back up somehow that would nail down that theory.
@bryan22222
@bryan22222 Жыл бұрын
I agree. His screen time and lines have been significantly reduced this season. Not that his presence was particularly pivotal in season 1, but I think he’s said maybe 4 words since his return. This last episode made a point of showing him there, just sitting and listening/watching. I do agree that’s he’s dead and what they’re seeing now it just his spirit that the wilderness sent them as a sort of spy to keep better track of them during the harsh winter since they’re locked up in the cabin. I also think Crystals body disappearing is already evidence of this. Clearly, once someone dies they become part of the wilderness and under control of the wilderness.

I noticed during the reunion on Lottie’s campsite, the main characters were sitting around six candles. I’m thinking each candle represented one of them. There were two additional candles outside of their circle, which I’m assuming represents two other folks that came back from the wilderness. One being Travis, the other being someone they haven’t reveal to us yet. One candle may have even been shorter than the other five, the one in front of Van, representing her short life left to live. Not sure if this is real, though, or just the camera angle making it look shorter.

I think you got it backwards. Shauna didn't want Callie, she was a last ditch attempt to save her marriage to Jeff, and she had to keep pretending that she was a perfectly normal mom while intentionally keeping her distance from her. After her stillbirth out in the woods and the painful loss she experienced, she didn't want to go through that pain again, but decided that having the typical markers of adulthood and parenting would help her to fit in, and move past the trauma, all while being absolutely petrified that she would mentally, emotionally, or physically harm Callie. In the end it ended up damaging her daughter anyway, because Callie grew up in a household with no boundaries, no curfews, no parental surveillance, so she took that as the sign that her mother doesn't care for or love her. Then Shauna tries to reclaim her youth by sleeping with Adam, getting to relive all the exhilaration of being a teen again, but ends up killing him, out of self-preservation and instinct, emblematically killing the last piece of her childhood innocence. I have the greatest sympathy for Shauna in the whole series. She was the lackey friend, someone who always subjugated herself to suit the people around her, and once she lost Jackie and the baby, her entire worldview shifts - she has to be self-reliant, ruthless, and unfeeling, otherwise she will die out in the woods. Her brutal beatdown of Lottie was brutal almost like that scene in Fight Club where Ed Norton's character beats the hell out of Jared Leto's face because he "wanted to destroy something beautiful." She went apeshit on Lottie because she had no other outlet for her rage, with all that pent up anger over the visions of Lottie taking her son from her arms and feeding on him. She wasn't going to be sidelined again, and Lottie allowed her to vent all her pain at once, because she said "we need you," as in the ruthless version of Shauna who doesn't hide herself away. In that moment, the real Shauna emerges. Once they were rescued, she had to shelve that part of herself in order to be accepted into society again, hiding her true nature from the people around her so they wouldn't see her as some monster. She can't tell anyone, not even her husband and daughter, about the horrors she endured, and all these years later the memories and trauma are resurfacing. That "self care" session was heartbreaking, because it takes her right back to the early days after the plane crash, as she's the one to hold the knife and slit the throat of the deer. When they pass her the goat kid, it's a double whammy, because she assumes that the cult wants her to kill it because she has that ability to suppress her empathy to take a life, but then she also has been tasked with looking after a baby, like the one she lost, but she treats it the same way as she parented Callie, leaving it alone tied to a tree where it manages to chew through the rope and walk off. So Shauna is devastated that she feels she can't perform this maternal duty like other women, and tries to return it to the barn, telling the cult member that she is mentally prepared to stab it if asked, but she can't have it die while he's in her care. She would rather be the one wielding the knife than sit by and watch as someone she cared for dies. To get really deep on this, people tend to have children because they have some hope and optimism - kids are supposed to be the pure versions of ourselves, we see ourselves in them when they're young. This may be why Shauna cannot confront motherhood, because she hasn't felt hope or optimism since before the crash. She's frightened that she's messing it up, but she doesn't fuss over the kid either, just like she avoided Callie. Lottie tells her that caring for another animal brings "clarity for having to care for something so innocent." Shauna never found that clarity after her stillbirth, and still couldn't find her hope after Callie was born. Shauna tells Lottie "I think something is broken," because she never felt relaxed or able to give herself that hope. And the scene ends with Shauna in tears telling Lottie, "I just can't do it." That was her acknowledgement of her true nature, the part of her she discovered in the wilderness, and the part of her that she hid for 25 years. So that reunion scene at the end was cathartic for her, because she can finally embrace the person she truly is - not a mother or wife, not the best friend, not a homemaker. She's something more primal, more violent, more savage. Personally I believe that she takes on the Antler Queen title and not Lottie. Lottie didn't become a provider for the group - she can't hunt, but she does have visions and premonitions. Shauna is the one to wield the knife.

Things I feel quite strongly: 1) This isn’t a supernatural show - I know we drift back and forward on this, but I think it’s a show about people going weird and feral in the wilderness, then struggling to recover when they get back into reality because they had to pretend to be ‘normal’ again when they got back, but something had changed profoundly 2) Shauna is the Antler Queen - I agree with you here 100% - it’s the best arc for the show that the conflicted and nervous and depressed Shauna is actually the most terrifying and powerful of all of them 3) There’s someone else in the wilderness with them - we have this backstory about the house they’re in and no access point into finding out about it unless there’s someone who was there when it happened whose flashbacks we can observe. Plus we have Javi living for months in the wilderness and Crystal’s missing body. If I had to put money on a story arc it would be that there’s a woman who has been living alone in the forest for years, has completely lost her mind, presents herself as an antler queen and then is eventually killed by Shauna who takes over her role

You're right. I've just binge watched the entire two seasons to date, without knowing a great deal about the show at all, and one thing that is exceedingly clear to me is that the producers -- thus far -- have carefully ensured that despite a lot of creepy overtones everything has a reasonable explanation. Absolutely nothing supernatural actually has occurred. It's all in the imagination of a bunch of hormonal, starving teenage girls. Reminds me of high school! But, barring a twist, this is not "Lost"; it's "Lord of the Flies."

I still think Lottie is AQ not really a queen but a high priestess. The antlers framing different people is showing that the spirit of the wilderness is taking hold of them. Lottie seems to be the one who interprets her visions and such for the rest of them. I think they all, at least for some time, will believe they must kill their friends to appease the spirit of the wilderness. The AQ visions in the present are reminding them of their "beliefs" and rituals from the past. I think there are others out there too. Hard to believe Javi could have been on his own and Crystal couldn't have walked away. The symbols on the trees are there for a reason. I think Ben's BF will be the one who eventually finds them. Too much screen time to never see him again.

Those Caligula references might be more layered than you think, depending on how up to date the writers are on his history. Most modern historians think that Caligula was a victim of that age old adage "the victors write the histories". There was nothing particularly damning written about him during his time as Emperor, the juicy (probably not true) stuff was all written after his assasination.

I really don’t think Shauna could be the antler queen because Lottie seems to be very traumatised by the character (all the visions and hallucinations), but when reunited with Shauna she didn’t seem affected all that much. Idk maybe I’m missing something but if Shauna was really the antler queen I think they’d all act a completely different way towards her.

15:46 Coach Scott clearly said in an earlier episode that he was having trouble committing to his boyfriend and ultimately chose to accompany the team to nationals instead of moving in with Paul. So, in my opinion these experiences with Paul were not memories. These are something different, perhaps they are escapist fantasies, a series of hunger-induced hallucinations, or perhaps something supernatural.

Im so late, but unless Pit Girl is revealed at the end of this season, its gotta be either Mari or I think its a random hiker that they kidnapped and killed. This is why she was genuinely scared and seemed confused AND didnt k ow about the pit.

I HATE THE ALTERNATE REALITY THEORY. IT BETTER NOT BE THAT SHIT The Live song is about a death during birth, very fitting song. It was so hard to watch Shauna beat Lottie to a pulp. Seven survivors that we know of return to civilization, therefore it is safe to say that one of the seven is the antler queen dressed in white. Lots of theories out there say that they dont really exist as in one of the seven. No spoilers from me here but i agree with the conclusion of this season.

Lottie stood back from Shauna during their exchange about Bruce and Callie. She wants to forgive and be open to helping Shauna to heal but she remembers the beat down she willingly took from Shauna. Shauna when talking about Callie means that she is distant from Callie and only has a superficial relationship with her because she fears Callie will die or that she’s not even real. I think Callie perhaps reminds her of Jackie a bit and from her trauma. There a huge element of things not being real that has always ran through the show. Lots of references of “not real” now we are seeing lots of glitches the theme song is slowing down. I have said it before and I will say it again I really hope that when this show comes to an end that it’s not a dream, or hallucination. It’s set up pretty good for this. The Xanax or Valium Jackie give Shauna on the plane. She could wake up and the plane lands at Nationals or it could all be in Lottie’s head. I hope it’s not something like that.

Does anyone else think the production looks more fake this season? The snow, those rocks Shauna buried her baby in, etc. Also, how come Shauna and Ben are the only ones who seem starving? Did they run out of makeup? They talk about it a lot but don't show it. It makes the stakes lower.

At this point, to be honest, I find the overall writing to be really laughable this season and it saddens me to say that because season 1 is, to me, a masterpiece. I'm not even angry anymore...I already know this season is down the toilet (even if the two last episodes are great) so I just watch until the end because I've started it. The biggest problem for me with this season is that it feels like the writers either A) were not prepared for the reception that season 1 got and were asked to write season 2 ASAP without having the time to do the roadmap OR B) They think they are smarter than they really are. They decided to focus so much on the mystery box instead of the relationships that characters do stuff either for shock value or to move the plot forward. It's way more soap operatic than season 1, which was filled with depth in the dialogues. The characters felt real. This season has nothing to say...it's ''Mystery...mystery...mystery'''. The present timeline especially is filled with plot holes, bad acting and storylines going nowhere. It's not that it's slow, it's that it's uninteresting, without any tension whatsoever. And things like the psychiatrist for example being not real was sooooo predictable. We'll see but I've been saying for a while now that if they go the Lost route, they will have the ''We need to go back'' moment where they will go back in the wilderness to either face the forest god (if it's real) or deal with their trauma. The past is a bit better (because the acting is still great for the most part), but again...things happen to move the plot forward like...how convenient that Misty could hear the girls talking behind her back? How over-the-top Lottie's beating was? Shauna probably punched her like 40 times and NO ONE said anything? I mean...really? That was written for shock value only...not because it was believable. And what about the new added cast that bring nothing of value? That was so jarring when they were introduced and clearly they're there as red shirts. That's it. And man...the winter set is laughably bad. It's clear that it's not real snow and the lighting is artificial. I've noticed that they shoot really close to the characters when they are outside, probably to hide the set. It looks really cheap. I could write an essay on this season I think because there are so many bad thing in the writing it's crazy. I hope they go back on track in season 3 and bring back the depth that season 1 had. On the long run, having mysteries is cool, but having characters we care about is better.

Heh, the outdoor winter scenes make me think of computer-generated breath from Titanic and fake snow getting stuck in Gandalf's beard in Fellowship. I don't mind it so much, as at least for me it's more of a suspension of disbelief thing, but unfortunately it is quite noticeable.

Episode 7 the episode where the writers ran out of ideas. "Play that Nirvana track, have Shauna carry a goat and nobody will notice that NOTHING happens" It's inexcusable with only 9 episodes this season. Mind you, if episodes 8 and 9 are anything like episode 7 then, it's probably a good thing they were too lazy to make 10 Oh and Natalie should have killed the fish. Leaving it in a bowl with no filter guarantees it a horrible death. Seriously, skip this episode and you miss no plot development. It was brilliant up until this episode. No disrespect to the content creator intended. Just the show writers.

It sounded to me more like Shauna didn't allow herself to be close to or love Callie or Jeff, because she was so afraid that something would happen and she would lose either or both of them like she lost her son. Shauna does NOT seem like a helicopter parent, like, at all. I also think Shauna believed she would be forced to kill the goat because she thinks that's something a cult would do, more than it being related to her wilderness experience.

Ive been theorizing that shauna has been the antler queen since the beginning of this season. Shes the one that actually got the group to come together. Shes completely unhinged , and also shares no care for taking a life. Also, when they were all doing therapy shauna felt like she was going to kill the goat the following day. Last but jot least, the most damning piece of evidence too me was season 1 when shauna met with taissa to discuss the reporter; How Shauna ORDERED Tai to get down to the bottom of it , and to take care of the situation . Tai doesn’t take orders from anyone , so its a little irry.

THE BEST analysis of Yellowjackets I’ve seen on KZbin, grade A+!!! HOWEVER, as far as the writers of the show, season 2 has been a COMPLETE MISS, a grade of G, for GARBAGE. Finding out there’s only 9 episodes lowered it from an F. During season 1 my entire family watched the show. 1 out of 4 still watching is a huge spike lost in viewers and will only lower until the show’s cancelled. Maybe Netflix can help its ratings, but I’m canceling Showtime in 2 weeks.
