Great scenery, Florida as it was when my people got there as refugees from Sherman's burning of Georgia. Now so much of it's like California, everyone's moved there and it's been ruined. Watched just to see it as it was when when my dad was a kid in the 30s. Thanks for reminding me of all the stories he told, makes me wanna go back for the family reunion on the Icheetucknee and see the old folks.

I agree about the scenery and how it has changed through time, but the movie timeline is 1863, while Sherman's March to the Sea was in November & December, 1864.

To all those trashing the movie, "How stupid are you!"? This is fiction, not a real life movie. I don't know if I would like the movie myself, but I live in the real world where fiction is a major part of even movies made off of real life events. Wow!

He is all alone, penniless, without food, without a gun or rifle, and has no boat and no compass. He cannot swim to CUBA. What a terrible way to end the movie. There should have been a Part 2 to this movie. After all, at least the one who did not give up made it to the sea-side. The "Kid" was OK!!

I'd like to see the stage version of this. Low budget! A few uniforms a rubber snake and some stock footage of a crocodile. (Who was a good actor) The chilling attack scene although the croc and the guy splashing about weren't in the same frame. The theme of naturalism as their worldly possessions (gold French nudie pics) become worthless. They are stripped of "civilization" as their primordial selves surface in a fight for survival. Not bad for five guys who met on prison. And snitched on communists during Mccarthyism and the Red Scare. They were arrested in a bath house while making a 8mm gay porno movie. The cockney actor was eventually found dead in the Florida Everglades being half eaten by a crocodile. Rumors of Mob ties and gambling debts the cause. They don't make em like that anymore! Perfect drive in movie for sex.

God is merciful undoubtedly, but He bestows His mercy on us when we need it most. This is so because we forget God as soon as we obtain this mercy. We should therefore remember the mercy of God constantly if we want to avoid distress. We are eternally related with Him, despite the state of forgetfulness already described above. Bhagavad-gītā confirms that the laws of nature are stringent because they are conducted by three different modes. But one who surrenders unto the Lord overcomes the stringency of nature easily.
