How do you deal with ticks? I'm getting nervous just by looking at an uncut grass...
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer Жыл бұрын
I wear long pants, check my self over after being in the pastures and if it itches ....investigate. I'm also a Registered Nurse and understand that most tick born illnesses come about from a tick that's attached for several hours. If it itches. Investigate ......shower immediately after working in tall grass and just be smart about it. A tick crawling on me is no biggie....I use a back scrubbing brush in the shower to clean myself thoroughly and shower a couple times per day when outside in this kinda grass. Biggest help is leaving the wild turkeys and birds alone to do their job...turkeys gobble up tons of ticks! Hope this helps...they're no big deal if you are cautious

Nothing to be nervous about there, the cows are going to love it. Take some good aerial shots to be able to compare it form year to year. We have to do the same thing with our ponds because we lease our land but also don't want the cows to destroy the ponds. We have two longer step in posts we use in the pond so they can be in about two feet of water and have plenty sticking out to put the poly on. Finally moving Miracle's momma cows Sat to their new lease. Exciting times!

Please use caution when dealing with the electric fence. I wouldn't want you to damage something that could affect the 2nd Gen farming. 😎 Your cows are friendly and it is funny how they follow you. When I visit the Amish Country in PA, the cows are usually afraid of everything/everyone. I live on the seacoast of Mass, otherwise I'd offer to volunteer on your farm. You do make everything appear effortless.

Well I’m happy to announce that after a week my queen bees were accepted into the colony, no virgin queens. So that’s exciting for the “allergic guy” I want to make some videos maybe not the greatest production value but it’s a place to start and I’m here to learn along with everyone else.

shew...that was bad....and honestly that was a management problem...someone was watching after the farm and didn't keep the water tanks filled properly....two tanks needed to be filled twice a day, my farm sitter only filled one half way and the calf couldn't reach the water...very frustrating!

Hi. I have a bunch of those Strainrite pig tails and the New Zealand sun destroyed the insulation, so I move to Gallagher. They have a much better loop system, so less dropped wire. They also have multi hooks on them so you can run lower wires to keep the young ones in. All was not lost with the strainrite pigtails, I cut 1/2" garden hose and pushed it over the damaged insulation. Works a treat. Best to soften the hose in warm water first and push on with a little lube.
@StoneyRidgeFarmer
@StoneyRidgeFarmer Жыл бұрын
the posts have been on my farm for nearly 3 years now and I've never had any issue with a strainrite pigtail. Never....the new zealand sun is the same as the NC sun...so I'm not sure why you'd have this issue. If you contact strainrite I'd just about bet they'd make it right for you

Thank you so much for your videos. I've been watching for over a year now. Purchased a 14 acre farm five months ago here in North Carolina with three small ponds and a creek on one side (7 small water falls on the property). Similar plans as yours, just smaller scale and later in life. Came close to buying out your way, but stayed closer to where I lived in Apex, but now near Lillington, NC. Going to start with pasture raised organic fed eggs (24 chickens so far). Could totally feel your pain when you lost your birds. Would love to see another episode on that. I've lost about 20 to predators in 5 months. After the last round of a dog getting 8, I put them in two 164' electric fences. Sure hope that keeps the predators out. As soon as I have repaired my fencing on the west pasture (5.5 acres), planning on a few Dexters on that pasture. Will add more and rotate paddocks with more Dexters once the fence is repaired on the east pasture (5 acres). I'm in a valley so the ground is good and the white clover grows 6 inches tall in the spring. 7Falls Farm is looking forward to future videos.

This one video revealed that all the videos you are doing it is for your future generations to live without depending on anyone. This is a tutorial for them. I sincerely hope that they have the good sense and brains to appreciate and understand that you can sustain off from a farm, with a some effort and have a really good and healthy life compared to a unhealthy life of slavery in a city - where everything is just a show business. Get educated and live in this beautiful farm for generations. Don't know about your wife or partner, hopefully she also gets to know that you are an incredible hardworking person of integrity and commitment. But usually wokes and feminists don't have a functioning brain - well stupidity is not a crime.
