TECH TALKS
Welcome to EBC Brakes' 'Tech Talks' series, where we look at each of our friction materials in more detail.
Watch as R&D Manager, Steve Payne, talks us through the technical details of our product lines, whilst addressing common myths and queries in the process.
REDSTUFF
This time, it's the turn of EBC's Redstuff pad to be put under the spotlight. Redstuff (EBC's red pad) is a road-legal, low-dust ceramic brake pad designed to keep dust deposit and noise to a minimum.

I can confirm the RED STUFF brake pads are a huge upgrade compared to OEM brakes. I had them on my Chrysler 300C . With stock brakes it could fade at high speed braking (200 km/h +) with REDSTUFF and EBC TURBO GROOVE brake discs I had much more brake power and they never faded. They are much more low dust then any other brake pads I have tried. A thing to get used to, is that REDSTUFF has a short warm up period when you brake. They brake as a OEM the first 0.5 second, then the force sets in

I have a Fiat Uno Turbo slightly tuned, got drilled and grooved discs on the front and have white OZ Route wheels on them. I now have another brand on them but these pads not giving me the stopping power i want and they loose a lot of brake dust. Was thinking of getting greenstuff pads because cleaning white wheels is not great, but now that i see that red stuff gives even less brake dust, what would be the best option for me to go? Thank you in advance for the info.

I work as a mechanic and sometimes pads just squeal for seemingly no rhyme or reason. We use liqui moly brake anti-squeal paste. it's a very tacky, viscous paste, and does a great job of absorbing vibrations and quietening pads. I'd give it a shot, just pop the pads out and put a thin layer on the backs of the pads

I agree that the bite on these pads is excellent. I just upgraded from OEM pads on my Audi R8. I'm still seeing a lot of brake dust (after over 100 miles) but its reddish in color. Hi, Redstuff does have a lower friction coefficient compared to the Yellowstuff so in terms of performance during spirited driving, Yellowstuff would be better. However, like mentioned in the video, Redstuff is a low dust pad. We do advise against using our Redstuff pad on the track. Thank you.

these pads are great, but even on the road i fade them way too easily, even easier than stock it feels like. i shouldve bought yellowstuff. the braking performance dropoff is sharp when they get too hot. what temperature do these typically fade at? is that even a valid question? or does it require an insanely technical answer?
@Nbomber
@Nbomber 3 жыл бұрын
im running them on a forester sg with the 4 pot calipers up front. i can cook them pretty reliably within a few minutes. considering moving to yellow and getting some cooling ducts on the disks. also, i should note, when they cool down, they return to being great brakes. im running drilled and grooved disks. i guess i must drive like a total arsehole or something.

You sure you're not boiling your fluid ? That would make a lot of sense, higher friction from theupgraded pads introduce more heat and therefore you're gonna cook your fluid even faster than oem, that matches your description.
@Nbomber
@Nbomber 2 жыл бұрын
@@imnota theres a pretty good chance i am. You know something, i elected not to use the backing pads to increase brake feel. And hopefully dissipate more heat into the caliper and away from the pads. So you could be right. But apart from that, the pads are actually over heating, they start smoking, i get a drrrrrrr noise from them offgassing into the rotor grooves and then they smoke enough to sting my eyes a little in the car. So my fluid could be boiling, but honestly i think the pads are just not fit for purpose. I never had this issue with the oem pads and braing force was more consistent.
