Every phone number, social security, credit card pin code or winning lottery number that has, is, and will exist is contained in this infinite string of numbers. @drenzineАй бұрын
Wrong. As in your confidence. We have yet to know whether or not pi is normal (e.g. every string of digits are equally likely/in a uniform distribution, which implies containing every possible string of digits). For all we know, somewhere in the... let's say Kth digit, only 0s and 1s would start appearing (but still without infinite repetition; see the digits of the Champernowne binary constant but imagine it's base-10). If I asked you to find a string of 9s with length K in pi, you would not find any. Yes, this is only hypothetical, but so is the notion that pi contains every number. It's not that it does. It's not that it doesn't. It's that we still don't know, so you should've mentioned that

Probably the scariest thing about this is how if pi truly is infinite and never ends, there is bound to be any string of numbers ever said. I could joke that there might be 22 million 7s in a row but if pi is infinite then yes, thats true. How far it is into pi would be more than every atom in the universe but its still there. And if its infinite, that also means that the string of 22 million 7s appears an INFINITE AMOUNT OF TIMES. It can vary as much as it likes but there will always be an infinite string of those numbers.

3:59 This reminds me: there's an irrational number where a sequence of 7 identical digits occurs much, MUCH earlier than position 710,100. It's at position 761, which is astonishing considering the odds. This number is actually related to π, and the sequence is a string of seven 9's, much like the six 9's in π. A lot of fans of this number, I would say, have an objectively incorrect view of why it's good: they'll tell you something dumb about radians or complex exponentiation or something. But the truth is that τ, the ratio of a circle's circumference to its radius, isn't really about any of those. Nobody really cares about clarity or reducing errors or showing compassion to confused math students. In the grand scheme of things, none of that actually matters. τ has *seven* consecutive 9's at position *seven hundred sixty-one.* And that, ultimately, is what makes it beautiful.

the first year (that I could find) is at the 1K mark as well! (1989) Edit: to clarify, the first 4 digit year is at the 1K mark. That year being 1989, which is a real 4 digit year.
