I tried your tip and now I have new growth on my last red cymbidium bulb! So excited it could be saved

this is giving me SO much hope. I bought this beautiful beautiful cymbidium from a grocery store and I knew it would be a pain but I had to save it. same root situation, except it was incredibly rootbound. there were big insect eggs and a worm. a long, thin, blueish worm (I screamed). I through some brown cinnamon on it and let it rest for now. will try water culture like you did. I hope it'll live

I am so happy that the orchid recovered so beautifully, I really hope it just keeps on flourishing. I will remember this treatment and can share with somebody should they encounter the same problem. My orchid plants were so dusty yet after taking good care in re-potting them and cleaning the leaves the plants also looks much better. I do hope I can get some lovely flowers from them as well. Thanks for sharing, this is proof never get up hope, life is great!

Good to see 'lost orchids' come back and set off on the road to recovery.

Yes, this beauty was dead with very little roots. It'll take some time but water culture has helped promote lots of roots. Thanks for watching

Doing great! Definitely spray down for the mites crawling on it (visible in beginning of video)! Looks like spider mites? Not sure. When needing new roots, try using SUPER THRIVE. Also, cutting stem (you had blooms last time) will help energy to drive out new roots. Great job!

D Co Could you pls elaborate on the Super Thrive do you add it in the water culture and how often. And if I can't get that brand what else could I use?

Wow! Thanks so sooo much! I have one in the same shape except there was a mold or fungi problem as well. White hair type... Seems like several youtubers say gold Listerine kills that sort of thing. Anyway, Now, I know how to regrow them!! Oh!! It even looks like you're growing a new bulb too!!
@Growinglotsagreens8 жыл бұрын
Hi! Thank you for stopping by. Try to clean off the mold as much as possible. I have found just spraying hydrogen peroxide helps. Yes!, there is a couple new growth. I will be doing an update on it soon because there is so much progress since then! Have a wonderful day.

Thank you! I knew it would work! It's worked with some of my other orchids (Phals, Oncidiums, Vandas) that were in horrible condition, so why not try it on a Cymbidium. Thanks for the inspiration beautiful lady!

This is so interesting! Thanks for posting!! I though Cymbidiums didn't like to have wet feet. But with FWC it is wet all the time and has new roots and growth! Does the water heat up at all? How many hours of sun does it get?
@Growinglotsagreens6 жыл бұрын
Hi! Some orchids like it and some don’t. I’ve had a lot of luck with saving Cymbidiums using this method. I’m pretty sure the water warms up when it’s in my windowsill when the sun is shining. It doesn’t seem to be a problem. Just try to change the water often when it starts looking murky. Thank you for stopping by and good luck!

this is a great video! I have the same problem and I'm going to try it out. I have a question about the light the cymbidium needs for this healing period- it is now autumn and the sun is weaker and goes out for less hours. do you think it is a problem? should I buy a special light or is it ok like that?
@Growinglotsagreens8 жыл бұрын
Hi! thank you for stopping by. I think light won't be an a problem if you could put it near a window. Cymbidiums are pretty tolerant of the cold and are quite hardy compared to some other orchids. But if you feel the need to add extra lighting a shop light works and is not too pricy

Hi! I’m trying this technique on my cymbidium now. It’s been in the water for almost 3 weeks now, and it’s already starting to grow new roots and a new bulb! I’m so happy! However it seems like one of the small leaves it had when I started it in water is now starting to turn brown. Did you lose any leaves with this technique?
@Growinglotsagreens5 жыл бұрын
Hi! So glad to hear it’s working for you! Yes, there was many leaves that turned brown, but it could be due to the orchid being in a different method of growing. The leaves will eventually die and grow new ones from new bulbs. Hope yours will be a success! Thanks for stopping by.

Very helpful as I just found out the same problem with my cymbidium. Do you intend to leave it in water culture since its doing well?
@Growinglotsagreens5 жыл бұрын
Hi! The cymbidium is still in water. I’m planning on putting it back in bark, since it’s had lots of roots now. I will be doing a new update video soon! Thank you for stopping by.

Hi yen yen ! I got a question for you ,about 3 month ago ,I planted my cymbidium in a very big clay pot with medium bark mix ,recently I noticed all the mother plant is dying ,(but the baby plant still good condition )so I pull it out to check the root , most of the root is rotten, but I saw som new root growing out .should I clean the rotten root and repot in smaller pot
@Growinglotsagreens7 жыл бұрын
+chhayhuor kim Hi! Any rotten roots isn’t good to keep around. I would clean it but be careful not to disturb the good roots. How big is your Cymbidium? It’s always a good idea to not Repot Orchids In too big of a pot from its original pot, otherwise the medium stays wet for too long and could cause the roots to rot. Hope this helps. Keep me posted on your progress! Thanks for watching.
@sophiek82766 жыл бұрын
Hi can you tell me after years how is doing your orchid . Did you have any problems with root rots because the crown is still dark in the video. I am struggling with my miltoniopsis no roots. Thank you.
@Growinglotsagreens6 жыл бұрын
Hi! The Cymbidium is still growing well with lots of roots. The crown is still dark but it doesn’t seem to bother it at all. I’ll do an update soon. Thank you and Good luck with your Milt.

Can you elaborate a little more on "water culture" ? Also, what kind of light do you leave yours in?
@Growinglotsagreens7 жыл бұрын
+Will Patterson Hi! Full water culture is when the roots are in water 24/7. The water gets changed out when it gets murky, other then that, it only needs to be replenished with water when the level gets low. I keep it on a windowsill and it seems to be sufficient lighting. Hope you get success with your orchid. Thank you for watching!

I've tried doing this with mine, it seems to have developed some new growth but no new roots after about a month. Now the leaves that are left are going yellow... Any suggestions?
@Growinglotsagreens5 жыл бұрын
Hi! My cymbidium took awhile too, but don’t give up. Some leaves will eventually turn brown and die, but new ones will grow. I hope it will work for you. Let me know how it goes. Thank you for stopping by.
@emila7326 жыл бұрын
so I just have to putt my orchid in to the pot with water and change the water ?
@Growinglotsagreens6 жыл бұрын
Yep! It’s pretty easy. Just change out the water when it starts looking dirty. Good luck!
@emila7326 жыл бұрын
thank you , it looks much easier than growing tham in the pot because I am always afraid of destroying roots :)
@Growinglotsagreens6 жыл бұрын
With growing anything, the key is to keep an eye on it. The plant will give you signs if it’s happy or not. Different plants like different growing conditions. This Cymbidium acclimated to the water after it nearly died in media, while my other Cymbidiums are growing great in bark media. Thank you for stopping by!
