TO ALL TOURISTS COMING TO SINGAPORE. 1) Visit Katong, Little India, Arab Street, Chinatown to learn about different ethnic groups in Singapore. Confirm plus chop very "asia" at these places. Try out unique local food at each area (e.g. Katong Laksa, Roti Prata, Roti John). 2) Visit various museums (e.g. ACM, war museums) to learn about Singapore's history and what shaped today's Singaporean culture. The SCCC exhibition about Singaporean Chinese is actually quite interesting, and you will learn about different sub chinese dialect groups. 3) Visit Pulau Ubin, Kranji Marshes, Clementi Forest, Hort Park, MacRitchie, basically the whole center patch of Singapore if you want something natural. 4) Sign up for southern islands hop (Lazarus/St John Island, Kusu Island and I think NPark may have some other rarer southern islands tour). 5) Visit Smith Marine Floating Restaurant to experience Kelong life. 6) Experience water sports (e.g. Kayaking, Dragonboat - very asian thing) at Kallang basin. 7) Cycle around Singapore and visit HDB estates (unique to Singapore) and see unique things about Singapore urban planning, or ride through our industrial estate to visit the iconic lamp post #1. If you are at older HDB estates look out for boys playing special football at void deck. Alternatively play some games at Street Soccer court. 8) Go beyond just Chicken Rice, Satay and Chilli Crab. There are other nice local dishes such as Lor Mee, White Bee Hoon, Changi Village Chicken Cutlet Horfun, Hainanese Pork Chop, Bak Chor Mee with tomato sauce (unique to Singapore), Cereal Prawn, To make it more fun, try a Singapore vs Malaysia food itinerary and let the Malaysian know that we have better Hokkien Mee, Laksa, and Bak Kut Teh. Our Nanyang Coffee is also unique. 9) Learn how to speak singlish properly (it's not just adding lah to every sentence). 10) Watch some mediacorp drama while your KZbin is geographically in Singapore location! Don't forget about other touristy places such as Sentosa, Zoo, new bird park and etc. You can also try crossing the world busiest land border at Woodlands.

Maybe it was the taxi driver's attitude. Maybe it was hers. Most of the times I took a taxi from Changi Airport, the drivers offered to help, but I always said "Its ok, I can do it." In fact, many of them rushed out of their taxi once they drove into the lot, to open the boot. The others who didn't, I just did it on my own. No issue.
@25_kylie16
@25_kylie16 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. The taxi driver is paid to drive you to your destination, not help you lift luggages into their vehicles. Ofc, it would've been kind of them if they were to help (which is usually the case for me), but they're literally not required to do so lol. Doesn't she have her own hands to put them in?? At one point, she mention a previous trip.. which meant this is at least her 2nd trip here. Another note, she mention that she hate it so much (coming to Singpaore). So if she hate it so much, why did she bother to come for a 2nd trip??? That doesn't make sense. Not to mention her friend who act as a tour guide, he must have betrayed her for huge commission that she hate this 2nd trip so much!

Tbh, even though some of her points were reasonable, it generally seemed like she probably didn't do much research coming here to figure out what to explore and look for, and perhaps thought she could rely on a local friend/someone who doesn't look like a person who would've been knowledgeable enough to be a tour guide. And maybe her experience was soured from the whole "value for money" problem that started with her stay at MBS. As far as I know, based on many travel blog reviews, the general consensus is that Singapore hotels aren't exactly world-leading so, it would have been pretty foolish to judge "value for money" based on the hotels here.
@nunyabz9494

tbh, if she had value of money in the first place, wouldn't even stay in mbs, there are definitely other options, at this point there's this thing called ignorance, and a lot of travellers do that then complain bcs it's expensive, ( sg still expensive ah, if ever try to call for repairs or etc still damn ex), but really there are a lot of good places.

I’m not Singaporean. I can’t help but feel that she’s indirectly telling people she’s rich ( by staying and eating in posh restaurants ) but needs “publicity” by trying to be “different” to make herself “popular” by making unpopular remarks, just like what a person that wants to be famous chose to be “infamous” as she’ll be famous either way. That’s lateral thinking !
@cancanjaker1620
@cancanjaker1620 10 ай бұрын
She is not rich if she needs to complain about expensive prices at posh restaurants. She may be in the upper wealth bracket in her country (likely a developing/3rd world country) or she has only ever travelled to developing/3rd-world countries before. Because you can only expect reasonable prices at posh places in developing countries. Any well developed countries are expensive when you go to the posh places.

As an Indonesian, I will merely highlight one thing about the super Westernized term @2:13. As an American who recently studied abroad in Singapore for a semester recently, Singapore was really fun and a memorable experience! I think the point she made about Singapore being "too westernized" was quite interesting because one could say the same about Taipei, Tokyo, and Seoul. However its also really clear that Singapore is an Asian country, it doesn't take much to notice that. Also I kinda do agree with her about the taxi thing because Singapore was the only country where I had to put the luggage in myself (this didn't occur anywhere else when I was in SEA nor in SK and Japan). As well as Singaporeans talking about money; I've never met a group of people so focused on talking about money above everything else. Aside from that, the people were great.

It's actually a social ... malfunction or jam... when Singaporeans try to get to know each other, they tend to try finding a common topic to shoot the breeze about and ironically, the most common "get to know you" question for Singapore guys is "What unit were you in?" due to conscription, it's something they can all complain about, some of my Malaysian friends even made fun about this habit. So.... what happens when you take this "common topic" away? They struggle to find another "common topic" and unfortunately the "next best common thing" is your job and salary. So it's not totally about being money minded but also about it being the "lowest common denominator".
@nunyabz9494

i mean being the hub of SEA is pretty much going to make sg a bit more westernized, but tbh, that's somewhat expected, especially in an island this small, but you venture outside the tourist spots, you'll see a lot more. for taxi i'd somewhat agree, it was better pre covid, but after covid i think it got worse. also everything here is expensive af, so making money is important LOL

I never have much issue with them as most will voluntarily help without me asking. In fact, I have found taxi drivers not helping with my luggage when I was in US. Anyway, not a big deal to me because as a frequent traveller, I always believe in being able to handle my own luggage anytime, anywhere.

As an “avid” traveller, she should’ve done her research before the trip. Prices, attractions, what to find there and see there, etc. Asia is a huge continent with vast differences between each country so if she doesn’t want the developed city, she could’ve opted to go to other countries. There are also plenty of attractions in Singapore that are world-class which she won’t find in the neighbouring countries.

If you want to know more about a country just explore. Singapore is just a dot in the map. That's the best we can do. Every country does have people with all kinds of characters. That's human. We need to have a gd characters that we can't expect from others. Don't judge others for the doing of one person....cheer up dear.

I am from Bangladesh and a frequent traveler to Singapore (more than 10 times since 2009), among other countries. I have visited Singapore on account of work, medical treatment and also as a tourist. All things considered, it is by far the best country in the world for traveling. There is much, much more to Singapore than the shopping and the food, and I am not talking about only the museums, the theme parks or the zoos. There are a lot of hidden gems, of heritage and of nature. I also love the Singaporean people and their quirky sense of humor. Above all, I love the fact that despite having achieved so much as a nation over the past 50 years, Singaporeans are not conceited or abrasive when they interact with foreigners.

Well, we're like Modern Malacca and Penang rolled into one. We were the straits settlement once before. The best way to appreciate Singapore is to visit these back lanes before they're all gone and the cultural museums. And when you're done, just step back to modern society! That's what I love abt living here. Enjoy all the modern conveniences and yet still keeping the history from when our ancestors' days who made the trip from China, India, Indonesia, Philippines hundreds of years ago. Makes me appreciate our own heritage even more. What's more beautiful is how each race came to be.. The Indians, Chinese, Peranakans, Malays and Eurasians.. Some might argue that we should not have different races to make up a country but the fear is that, we might forget our roots, which we should be equally proud of

Actually Singapore being a small country, can't really expect there will be a random snowcapped mountain and huge waterfall. A lot of things are manmade since that's what tourist attractions are usually at cities. To be honest Singapore hotel pricing is so crazy though, even for 2 star hotel. It's much more expensive than places like Japan. but of course, it's really a You thing, if you not willing to pay, just u know don't go. I go SG for day trips it's much cheaper, go see concert and come back. Done no need pay hotel. Of course that's the perks of being neighbours.

I’ve never had that issue tbh. If they helped me with putting my luggage in the boot of their vehicle, they’ve helped me with taking it out… UNLESS the drop off point requires them to quickly alight u and they basically need to drive off immediately coz if not they might get fined for stopping there. Alternatively before u alight, u could mention you need help- “Uncle so sorry to trouble u again, but can u help me with my luggage? Thanks so much!” I mean we have a mouth to ask and if we do so politely, most of them will help.

There should be bad people out there but people in general are normal. There definitely are culture differences but not about rudeness for sure. Like what some people said in the comments, museums are great places to start. There is so much of Singaporean history, art, and culture that are so interesting to learn about. Hort Park and Singapore Botanical Gardens are great places to be in terms of nature. The latter being more educational for me and the space is so vast enough to explore from time to time. For me, the best thing in Singapore to encounter are the libraries inside some malls. It’s very unheard of in my country and the very few library cafes still require to order something. I like reading a lot, so being in such beautiful & accessible libraries would sometimes be the itinerary of the day.

Which points of hers do you agree with? I personally only agree with (1) everything is so westernised + (2) everything is so expensive. Everything else was just plain stupid imo lol. So just because a taxi driver didn’t smile at her and didn’t help her put her luggage in the vehicle, ALL the locals are rude?? She’s literally acting like she doesn’t have hands to do it herself.. Usually in SG, taxi drivers do actually help me, but if they don’t, I can do it myself. I don’t expect them to do what’s out of their job description lol. They’re getting paid to drive us around not put our shit into their vehicles. She said, “what else do you do in SG besides eat and shop?”. Wow. This honestly baffled me. If she even BOTHERED to search up ‘things to do in SG’, she would’ve already known what SG has to offer. From what her video shows, she spent majority of her SG trip in MBS and occasionally hawker centres? If she didn’t venture out of those areas, how can she expect to do anything else other than ‘eat and shop’ lmfao. As for the ‘Singapore didn’t feel like an Asian country’… seriously? What did she expect? She visited TOURIST attractions designed for TOURISTS aka foreigners. If she really wanted to see more asians, then go out of MBS?? Or maybe she wanted to see people dancing lion dance and wearing traditional clothings out in the open in MBS lol. The statement she made literally gives the same energy as telling, for example, a Japanese person, “Hey… you don’t look Japanese”. Like what? Do you want them to yell kawaii or anime lines every few seconds?? I actually visited her actual tiktok page and she had this other particular one where she rated countries out of 10, based on her stay. She rated Niseko, Japan, a 6.5/10, and one of her reasons was that it ‘didn’t feel like Japan’. Damn funny lol. Seems like she has a habit of saying this, which comes off as extremely stereotypical and rude. ‘Everything feels so artificial and man-made’. Also her: shows vids of MBS at that exact same moment, which are obviously ARTIFICAL. I feel the same as what the guy mentioned in his vid. ‘It feels like the Las Vegas of Asia but not quite there yet’. Lmfao. Marina Bay SANDS. SANDS. Literally, MBS is owned by Las Vegas Sands in agreement with the SG authorities. Ironic for her to say ‘but not quite there yet’, lol. I agree with her point about stuff being expensive and westernised as shit. She’s right about that, imo. Point is, yes, foreigners CAN criticise our country, but not like what she did. She obviously put across several claims about SG, and her video suggests she didn’t do enough research about SG before making a sweeping statement about the entirety of our country. We are not hypocritical if we get upset about her, because she’s clearly wrong lol. Edit: sorry for the long cmt, I was just extremely mad about this whole situation and needed somewhere to vomit it out 💀

If you are honest to yourself then it's true Singaporeans can be rude if they want to be so. The heartland Singaporeans can be crass due to living stress and culture upbringings. The high ses type are often seen being rude too for their own reasons in life. They follow the path of elitists in life where kindness is seen as weakness so they choose to be haughty. Of course there are still good manner Singaporeans everywhere but if we want to focus on the bad ones then it is still relatively easy to find them in their various respective environments in Singapore. You want to find the common bad manner ones you can look for them in the heartlands. You want to find the elitist snobs you can find them in the condos, offices and CBD areas.

However, I don't think its fair for her to categorize this as a 'bad thing'. If you want beautiful mountain views, sea views, and architecture that stems hundreds of years, go to Europe, Singapore is not the place for you. It's like going to New York City expecting it be Mongolia or something. Different places offer different things. Same goes for the point about Singapore being a place just to eat and shop. I honestly feel like all her cons would not be cons if she just did her research and manage her expectations. Her point about mbs is not new. I've seen this all over the internet. Seriously, I dun get these people who visit Singapore and complained that it is expensive!! Hello, didn’t she know WE are the one of the most expensive city in the world??? And SG currency is so strong, tourist even complained that a bottle of drinking water is so ex… 😂 My friend went to Dubai and OMG… many places are man made too… but she enjoy the trip as the attractions were very fascinating to her. Is a personal choice sia… hate is a very strong word!!

If you stay in MBS, you just don’t complain about being expensive. You literally chose to burn money.

Every country has good and bad people. To generalized the whole country is not accurate or nice. 😒 I live in the U.S. and encountered many rude situations, but I will not say the whole country is rude. There are rude and polite people everywhere.

I remember the one time I visit Singapore long time ago. And yes, the taxi driver ain't smiling, the hotel reception ain't smiling, the restaurant waiter ain't smiling, the street food vendor ain't smiling. But they give good and efficient service. And one of the experience I remember there is not the non smiling people, it's the fun I have strolling Orchard road and having ice cream sandwich. If you want waterfall and smiley people go to Bali. Every place have different experiences to offer. Heck, even in Indonesia not every place is full of smiley people, try to go to Manado, lol

Actually the smile part is probably u caught them on a bad day that's all. From start of work, they probably can smile until maybe close to end of work they are tired that's all.

We all know that anything TikTok influencer related content shouldn't be taken seriously. The point about Singaporean's being rude is kinda true, but that's like the minority of Singaporeans. But everything else was her own self doing and has nothing to do with Singapore being boring or artificial.

To be fair, 5 star hotels dont always mean better service, it just means a posh environment, the bigger the hotel, the worse the service, 😂 this i can also testify 😂, i work in a 74 room 3 star hotel and despite working alone most of the time, i have had multiple positive Guest Reviews on Booking so yup, lets be real, unless you get a Butler, service in 5 star hotels is sort of bo chap at best 😂

It's always fascinating to see people expecting service providers to serve above and beyond their posts. A driver's job is to drive you to and fro your locations; anything else is not a given. Always appreciate all service providers.

Perhaps that's the expected service that they get in their home country. There are lots of countries where that is the normm.

I once stopped over in Singapore when returning to Sarawak from Australia. I intended to spend three nights in Singapore for a short holiday. But, the front desk staff members in the hotel that I stayed were rude and unfriendly to me. So, after a night’s stay, I returned home the next day. Actually, I like Singapore. But, the unhappy experiences made me cut short of my stay. Despite that, I’ll still visit Singapore in future, but, not staying in that hotel anymore.

my personal reasons why sg is expensive: 1. inflation 2. from what i heard sg is a country that earns the most money from the tourists that visit us. as mentioned since mbs is a popular hotel, the prices will be higher to get the most money. tourists are what is boosting our economy the most which is why they are technically 'sucking your money'. also, stuff in the city area is generally more expensive like in orchard. if you went to orchard food court it will definitely be more expensive than a neighbourhood one. its a you thing girl. you chose to stay city area
