The whole world has fallen in love with Mahale and Kucheza, after catching a glimpse of their emotional reunion. Chimpanzees in AZA-accredited institutions like ‪@SedgwickCoZoo‬ receive the highest level of care to meet their physical, emotional, and social needs - including the life-saving decision to deliver Kucheza via emergency C-section.
All of the animals in their care serve as important ambassadors for their species. Mahale and Kucheza have reminded us all that chimpanzees are smart, charismatic, and amazing animals. And they need our help! Small actions - like recycling your old cell phones and using only sustainably-sourced (certified) palm oil and paper products - can help save chimpanzees like Mahale and Kucheza in the wild.

I lost count of the number of times I watched the initial video of Mahale picking up Kucheza as soon as she saw that little hand pop up! She was so excited to see him she was shaking. And now this extended video shows her gently checking the little guy over, making sure he has all his parts. The obvious love animals have for their babies is just undeniable. There is no way you can watch this mother and her infant and think this is just instinct. This is true emotional love.

She looks at her baby and just marvels at him and then She kisses him… there is no other reason to kiss her baby other than to show that she loves him! All one has to do is just watch them and they will see it… the devotion to her baby is undeniable… I just melted when she kissed him… such a sweet tender moment…

Heavily depends on the animal I'd like to say. There are some that wouldn't really care less for their offspring aside from reproduction and it's also okay, I feel like emotional connection is not necessarily a sign of being more highly developed. Apes are heavily social like us so it's easy to see the connection.

I think she felt that she had lost him and for her it's the biggest miracle and gift to welcome him alive and have him back, when she thought her baby might have died and was already griefing. Animals might not think as complex as we do, but they are emotionally not as different to humans than some of us think ♥️

@@freshbreeze1515 Как раз таки она его потом не смогла сохранить его. И он через 5 недель погиб. Думаю что ей после кесарево сечения вроде бы отдали малыша через два дня. И как же шов у нее. Наверное беспокоил ее. Может оставила на миг его без присмотра корчась от дискомфорта. Вот и промаргала его потом. В один день утром смотрители пришли и увидели на ее руках мертвого этого малыша.

Such beautifully done videography...The closeups are always a special treat...(especially today's footage of this precious little Kucheza's "model perfect" eyebrows...HaHaHah ...Seriously, Mahale's tenderness & endearing love for her baby is so palpable, I can almost "feel" it in my heart...Sedgwick Zoo must be feeling such well deserved pride for their literally saving baby Kucheza's life, & for their loving dedication in keeping him healthy & safe until they were able to see the heart-melting reaction of Mahale's soft hoots & excited chirps when she gently unwrapped him from his blanket & clung to him...I cried so much my eyes were stinging all morning ...I think I'll always remember that beautiful moment of a sight to behold-..
